EricJ 759 Posted May 17, 2005 This is slightly off-topic, but maybe somebody would know - I've heard that the TU-22/26M Backfire can be configured to carry a huge air-to-air loadout. Something like 30-40 AA-10s or AA-11s. Is there any truth to this? I know they don't have fighter radars, but could they slave their missiles to escorting fighters, so the SU-27s designate and provide illumination to the missiles from the Backfires? Never heard of that mind you. But it would more than likely be an Su-30 providing the illumination rather than an Su-27, as the Su-30 is designed to be linked to an AWACS or within a flight. Â Then of course the Backfire would have to be suitably modified as well. Â And I'm sure Western Intel would have caught that, or maybe not. You also have to realize that the Backfire probably can only carry two AS-6s and that's it. It couldn't handle a fight if thier escorts got munched.
Footmunch 0 Posted May 19, 2005 Not heard of the 'arsenal Backfire' either, although there were some interesting solutions proposed to counter a large NATO cruise missile strike... The MiG-31 (not Firefox ) has a mini-AWACS mode on it's radar, doesn't it? IIRC it can hand-off targets to Flankers and Fulcrums while cruising at 40 kilofeet. Edit - forgot what I was here for: Nice work on the Rapier's, Rock. (+ a bump for RKSL's newer thread)

Guest RKSL-Rock Posted May 29, 2005 So any more progress on these? Specifically which of these? There has been some progress mostly texture stuff and a little scripting...
mechastalin 0 Posted May 29, 2005 Mainly interested in all of the Aircraft,You have a few that have never been done before. As well as the Sea Shadow.
Guest RKSL-Rock Posted May 30, 2005 Mainly interested in all of the Aircraft,You have a few that have never been done before. As well as the Sea Shadow. I've been working on some Falklands buildings so not much has gone on but i have resurrected some older projects. Ok well a bit of an update: Tornado Pack, U2, XF/A-32 and Berkuts - no change Rapier FSC etc ...no real changes but the Blindfire has some new textures but also still has a bug when it comes to engaging targets. Bird Of Prey - slight model rework IL-76 - slight model rework and LODing The Island is slowly coming along with the 2nd airbase neraly complete with the addition of a few more new objects and buildings etc. The Sea Shadow hasnt been touched for awhile...but only needs a pilot and cargo views The Subs - again no change but im hoping to add ballistic missile launch capability. Nimrod - no change....needs a rework on the cockpit instumentation and added support for MP...its got some bugs that are rather annoying. Also since i was cleaning out an old hard drive i've picked up a few of the older projects i started but never really finished: The SSPAR array is back as part of the RKSL Island objects pack, as it some new wharehouses, oil tanks etc. Some of these resurrected projects include: Eurocopter EC120B Colibri Hughes MD5XX Series helicopters Including NOTAR versions. The model shown is 100% new and only at the early alpha stage. These last two were stopped ages ago due to the lack of community interest/whinning about non combat helicopters and a variety of complaints about lack of variety etc. Both the EC120 and MD5XX Helos will have civil and military skins to represent the varied uses they currently have. Â The MDs will not be wearing US markings but will be roundel compatible to represent third world and south american varients. ...and finally the website should be back in 7-10 days work permitting. Cheers Rock

Footmunch 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Interesting bit of news about the Nimrod upgrade: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1650752,00.html
Guest RKSL-Rock Posted July 29, 2005 Bit of a bump for the thread. Just a few bits of news: 1) The RKSL site is back up and running - finally 2) Progress is being made on a few fronts -- Rapier FSC is now back at the forefront - Thank to some help its taking on a new lease of life - I dont know if im allowed to say who is helping but with his help it promises to be something special. 3) A Few new projects have been added to list - mostly due to the amount of time i've had sitting in airports recently. But the Hanger Pack 2 has seen some work with some miltipart hangers being added. - 4 part 120x120m Super Hanger - Fits 2-3 A340's in it. - 3 Part 150x40 - Fighter Hanger blocks - no pics atm as its no textures but its like the Tonapah/Saudi ones made by Lewishers. - 2 Part 120x60m - Open Hanger - 2 Part 120x60m - Closed Hanger - 1 Part 60x60m - Open and Closed Hangers - 1 Part 60x30m - Open and Closed Hangers - 1 Part 30x40m - General hanger Ok thats it for now but I'll post some more stuff later. You can have a look in the Gallery for the new stuff...ther eis a lot of the older stuff there too. Hope you like the new look http://www.rkslstudios.info
Colossus 2 Posted July 29, 2005 How is the Comms Pack1 going? I really really like to see a radar dome in OFP. I mean think of it, everytime some war is going on they intend to knock out the radar and communication system first. OFP needs a military radar dome.
BlackScorpion 0 Posted July 29, 2005 Looks nice... But ain't the correct word "Hangar"... 'cos "hanger" is the thing you put your clothes (coat, shirts) on when you don't use them... Unless you're gonna have a fighter hanging in your clothes rack, well...
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 29, 2005 I think the correct term is, "shelter". But those of us that live on or near airbases, call them "hangers".

I mean think of it, everytime some war is going on they intend to knock out the radar and communication system first. OFP needs a military radar dome. Its actually getting a complete make over. Ive never loke the domes how they were so i'm trying to get the right geodesic effect. The SSPAR array is getting a new base structure and stair ways etc. The old one was reallyonly meant as a target. I wasnt anticipating so much interest in it. I'll post some more screenies next week. Guest RKSL-Rock Posted July 29, 2005 I think the correct term is, "shelter". But those of us that live on or near airbases, call them "hangers". Actually no its called a Hanger. Shelters are either a temporary/semi permanant structure like you see in Saudi, Kuwait or Iraq etc. IE no sides no doors etc. Or a HAS. These are Hangers. Now do me a favour and don't post crap in my threads.

Guest RKSL-Rock Posted July 29, 2005 Woah! That's TOTALLY uncalled for! speaking of posting crap! Christ, you need to grow up dude. Do us all a favour and stop posting insensitive/uninformed/nationalistic/pompus* rubbish to desparately try to make yourself look big. (*delete as a applicable depending on circumstances) It's becoming increasingly obvious you have not got a clue about manners, respect or decency let alone half the stuff you inflict your 'opinions' on. Â Now please dont post in this thread again. You've already had one thread closed in 24hrs now sod off. Â Goodnight & thankyou for being a loverly audience.
