Acecombat 0 Posted March 8, 2005 The Rock solidifies Doom movie role Actor reveals bits about the shooter-based project on his Daily Show appearance; confirms filming just wrapped up Quote[/b] ]Actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson revealed more information on the upcoming Doom film, based on id Software's hit franchise. Johnson, who was on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart promoting the film Be Cool, was prodded by Stewart about another upcoming project. "The film is Doom," admitted Johnson, "We just wrapped it." After Stewart asked the part-time WWE wrestler if he played a "creature," Johnson responded, "No, I'm the one," to which Stewart elatedly brought his hands to his face and screamed, "You're the dude!" Confusion as to whether The Rock or actor Karl Urban of the Lord of the Rings trilogy fame would be the film's main star still remains. Urban's character, John Grimm, is the leader of a special-operations group that includes Johnson's character, listed only as "Sarge." The Rock was earlier quoted by Empire Online as saying, "Without giving the movie away, I play the ultimate [censored]. It'll be great. But you don't know I'm [censored]." Taking much of its inspiration from the PC game Doom 3, the film will take place in a paramilitary research facility on Mars, where things go awry and hell is literally raised. Some theories say that the Rock is actually Satan in disguise, which would tie in to the film and game's devilish setting. Johnson let on about his excitement for the film. "Here's the great thing about Doom... It's rated 'R,' it's unapologetic, just like the video game. I love blowing [expletive] up, and in this movie..." Johnson also gave details about the legendary BFG, calling it a "bio-force gun," rather than the more profane term gamers pegged the acronym as standing for. Doom the movie is expected to hit the screen in August and is being directed by Cradle 2 the Grave director Andrzej Bartkowiak. Contrary to earlier reports by id Software, the film is indeed being developed by Universal Pictures and will costar Die Another Day's Rosamund Pike in a less villainous role. Doom 3 was released on the PC last August, and an Xbox version will hit shelves April 3. By Tim Surette, Tor Thorsen -- GameSpot What do you guys think , the game didnt hit the right wavelength with gamers but i think the movie might just be good? If they have a good storyline and script to back it up. Its a good concept this from games to movies , hope someone does the same to Max Payne series or even OFP , i can see it already Armstrong as Orlando bloom , Gastovski as Eric bana :P , dunno who could do Guba. I groaned when I found out the legendary Doom had been made into a most likely second rate film.
crashdome 3 Posted March 8, 2005 *CrashDome sits patiently awaiting for an OFP:Resistance movie starring Bruce Willis or Jason Statham as Victor Troska* What were the last movies about video games? Tomb Raider? Resident Evil? Mortal Kombat? Street Fighter!!?? Based on that trend, Doom Movie has very little chance....
Harnu 0 Posted March 8, 2005 The Tomb Raider movies weren't that bad. I thought Resident Evil wasn't too shabby, and the original mortal kombat I liked, (Then again, I was just a kid). Come to think of it, I liked pretty much most of the movies that came out based on games. I even though the Final Fantasy movie was okay. Don't really know why, but seem to like these, so I'll probably be satisfied with a Doom movie.

Leveler 0 Posted March 8, 2005 They couldnt have chosen a better actor for the role, he looks like a cut and paste of the hero in the original. I am afraid it will end up as bad as AvsP. And dont forget.. IBTL

Heatseeker 0 Posted March 9, 2005 I think that if they capture Doom's scary atmosphere and evil creatures with great special efects and gore and stuff it could turn out great, atleast not has disapointing has the game was, i think this would be a good way to promote id though im not a big fan of their stuff either. Sounds good to me, i bet Valve is all jealous now .

DracoPaladore 0 Posted March 9, 2005 I don't get it with Online petitions. In fact, I wish that website was never created. Now every fanboy for any game, movie, or original idea thinks he speaks for the entire community in his little mind and then makes a peition. BANG, petition. BANG, petition. I see quite a few these days, all for stupid reasons. "I petition Relic to release patch!", "I petition ID to help with DOOM!", "I petition FOX to release a source code for AVP, a game they gave up two years ago!". The only remotly interesting thing in this movie is that it's done by the guy who did Species, Leathal Weapon 4, The Devils Advocate, and a couple more. I'm not saying he's a great, good, direction. More along the lines of 'watchable'. I'll be damned if I can spell his name though. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419706/ I'm just glad Ewe Bollshite or Poo Anderhosen is staying away. Their both bad directors. AVP was a quick enjoyment, but nothing worth the ticket and the price tag combined. But Bollocks work has made 2 spots on the 100 worst films to IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom You gotta work real hard to beat Jaws: The Revenge or Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Note that these are his latest two movies, and not his last. He has: Bloodrayne in post production. Far Cry in the works. and Hunter: The Reckoning. Note how Rayne is leaving post production just as he waste of film movie Alone in the Dark even finished in the theatres. No more work coming from Anderson in the future for directing, but he's written another RE movie. I enjoyed, actually, all of his movies (never saw shopping tho). Never said they were great. All of them would probobly get a 4.5-5 on my scale. That's the most, though. But Bollocks just sucks. The Doom movie has potential, despite the butchered storyline: Quote[/b] ] When a Special Ops squadron answers a distress call from a science lab on the planet Olduvai, their investigation reveals that a series of mutant beings are systematically killing off the population there... However, my thoughts were exactly the same when I heard about Alone In the Dark: Is this from the game or is just a name? Really. I saw the AITD trailer and had no idea for a long time that it was from the game. Really. I had no clue. All I can say is that this industry is going in the toilet. It looks like 2005 is the year Hollywood picked to destroy the game-movie franchise by hiring these hacks for directing them. They're all bad, and none of them produced anything breaking. But they hire them anyways. I simply cannot follow this logic. Wouldn't you hire a good director? Wouldn't a good or superb director rake in MORE money if the movie was actually well done? But now it's a true sign as to where the American entertainment industry is going. Yes, down the toilet. The past few years have been filled with these cookie-cutter comedie and love movies, and it's a complete disgrace of all film industry. Especially with the use of singers such as Beyonce or some other failing 'star' in order to draw in any audience, let alone screech at a high pitched volume stupidly at the famed Oscars! Oh no! Nameless comedic boy cannot get date! Woah! Original thought! Miss Congeniality 2! Wow! I'm sure that's the best idear evar! What a disgrace. Its no wonder theatres are losing money. They overcharge tickets to have people watch movies with no value. They rise higher and higher in prices only because no one wants to watch any of this crap-infested stupid movies. There are only a few that even remotely look good this year. But I'm not holding my breath or have any hopes, because it is simply stupid these days to have any. The use of hack directors and big name stars ruin the movie you expected to be great, only to find out they used the only presentable shots in the trailer. Not to mention these movies have nothing to do with the content they are basing it off of. Alone in the dark had martial arts and gun fights, despite the games being a horror series. Watch the trailers. Don't bother with the movies. Much more entertaining. It's just...stupid.

Nemesis6 0 Posted March 9, 2005 Just for the sake of discussion, a little off-topic post - Speaking of decay, the 2004 of Dawn of The Dead version was actually better than the first... God that movie rocked...! For once, it isn't just the heroes that lose, it's humanity! In any case, the Director/whomever COULD be lenient and change the name from "DooM" to... anything else, really... Edit: One more thing, as said, it could turn out to be a good movie, if they don't choose to spoil it with stupid love scenes and all that crap...
DracoPaladore 0 Posted March 9, 2005 Edit: One more thing, as said, it could turn out to be a good movie, if they don't choose to spoil it with stupid love scenes and all that crap... "Don't go Marine!" Special Ops Token Female wraps her arms tightly around his chest, embracing hims tightly. A slow kiss on the lips. The Rock looks to the blood yairlock, gore smashed all over its sides. "Must...kill..mutants. Earth is in trouble." "But, wait! Isn't there a peaceful way? These mutants were once human, I'm sure they have a peice of their humanity left." "Yes, we must make peace with them. Get me my Bio Force Gun, the one that sprays daisies and sun flowers all over the walls."
red oct 2 Posted March 9, 2005 as long as Uwe Bowl isn't the director there might be a small chance it might turn out okay. and The Rock isnt such a bad action star. he certianly fills the foid that Schwarz Schwarzenegger left behind when he took office. red oct 2 Posted March 9, 2005 aww man those costumes look awful and tell me those aren't G36's i really hate it when the movie indrustry does this. they make all of these changes in the plot, the architecture of the buildings, and appearance of the characters and their weapons and everything else that made the game good then what you have a movie that's similar only by name. considering the video game indrustry has eclisped the movie indrustry in sales, you would figure they would take notes from them instead of trying to add their own twist to it. DracoPaladore 0 Posted March 9, 2005 Looks like their using black XM8's, while The Rock is holding a long cardboard rectangle.

That is bs because Constantine had demons (including the devil) and hell. Furthermore, it dealt with catholicism beliefs (suicide and exorcism). Quote[/b] ]Bloodrayne in post production. Last I heard it's based in the Doom universe but not following the events of the game. In my opinion its a good idea since you wont piss off the fans for getting the storyline wrong.
