bonko the sane 2 Posted January 27, 2005 well, its out of order, even with a 56k connection you can ask someone to burn it for free, all addons are available on the many wondrous OFP sites. I think no can of worms can be opened when its allready wide open, theres simply not the market to sell this illegal product. still...if the cd had the mythical ferret addon

Messiah 2 Posted January 28, 2005 surely BIS are looking into this? I mean, they've been so strict with FADE and also that other addon CD i heard about a while ago, why should this be any different? its as good as the guy copying Flashpoint itself, and selling that off - but its not ripping off BIS, its ripping off us
W@rhead 0 Posted January 28, 2005 Selling addons to make your wallet a fat one??? Addons that they've been made for free??? Oh,Jeez...That is outstanding!I don't believe that some guys think as apes... Ofcourse there is no excuse on that case. From the time that you are doing such of things,it is illegal for sure.If some "smartass" selling them, for the reason that some guys may have slow connection on the internet and so on,then why the heck wont selling them the same addonmakers???Doesn't that sounds right???what's the point then???Maybe i'm not a addonmaker (not yet thought,i'm a mission maker as maaaaany others),but i respect that guys, because i know how it is to spend whoooooole days infront of your monitor, making your eyes go red,and all of the sudden one day you hear that your precious work been sold at internet for 3/WHAT?/3 bucks? You got to be f*****g kiddin'me,right???

Baz 0 Posted January 28, 2005 I think that whoever buys it should get in troubble too, I mean its only motivating the idiot to keep selling them. Also I feel what Colecent has done to a good friend of mine isn't fair and should at least credit him for his work on an OFP addon that was put into a VBS1 addon set and is being sold for shitloads of money, I mean he should at least get credited. If not then he should get a free copy of VBS1. I have to admit though, I see little to no difference to DLing a bunch of porno and then burning all that into a CD and selling that. colonel_klink 0 Posted January 28, 2005 Let's not forget that if it wasn't for kevbaz bidding for the cd, this thread wouldn't be here, and no-one would be the wiser about the cd's contents. So lets not persecute someone who has brought this to our attention. As an addon maker I'm outraged that someone has the balls to cash in on something that was free. However this is is not new, shareware and free ware disks (floppy and CD) have been around for a long time, and people have charged for them. I'm not condoning this by any means, don't get me wrong, but this happens.
shinRaiden 0 Posted January 28, 2005 If various mod's and teams would get their addons patched up right, then submitted to BIS for compilation, I'd kick in some cash to buy a legit distro disk. I don't think it would be possible to split out compensation to the modmakers off a $15~$20 disk, especially with the IP swapping and shareing etc., but it would be a few nickels towards OFP2. The only really legit way to get addons out there on CD is by sending a nice email to your countries leading PC magazine asking if they would add your addons to their free CD/DVD -Its been done before with FDF, and i know Falklands have something lined up too selling it on the internet is just cheek, and an insult - our hardwork becomes some1 elses profit - although klinkers is correct - this happens, expecially with games and music - any of you who own a possibly illegit game and have complained on here - you've done nothing different to this guy
Jonny_2LI 0 Posted January 28, 2005 Im not an addon maker, but i know alot of people who make addons, i know the time and effort that they put into getting them just right, the positive feed back of the people on these forums and the thought of people enjoying there work is the only thing that motivates them to make that addon a version 1.1, a 1.2, a 1.3 etc, or make a new tank or weapon that would add more diversity to the game, without all these artists making these addons for us, tell me, would you still be playing ofp? i wouldnt have even bought the game if i didnt see the work PUKF were doing, and would this game have generated such a big community thats still going strong 4 years down the line? i think not. We owe it to these people to respect there want to keep there addons free of charge as it is them that kept this alive for so long. We should thank KevBaz for bringing this to our attention and this shouldnt even have turned into a debate, i would have expected everyone to have expressed how disgusted they are at the sorry asshole that wakes up in a morning to enjoy a day of spongeing off of peoples creativity, i say skull fuck the bastard. ade_mcc 0 Posted January 28, 2005 Either this arsehole did this because of: a) Profit b) For the benifit of the OFP community If it was 'a' then I imagine that its hardly going to make his bank manager smile, and if 'b' then all he had to do was to have the curtosy to ask peoples permission. Im sure plenty of addon makers would add their content to a community add-on pack CD with a nice sleeve and all the required bits and pieces with the full disclamer that any money changing hands covers the cost of production and P&P etc. But a scribbled on CD??? That just amater and takes the piss out of the high production values of these quality addons.

Big Dawg KS 6 Posted January 28, 2005 Well even if it was just for the cost of the CD and shipping and etc... or what ever the reason, he should have at least contacted the creators of the addons on the CD to make sure if it was OK, cause I'm sure nobody agreed to let this guy sell their addons. Thats the part that pisses me off the most

Thats the part that pisses me off the most  uhmm - yeah, but even requesting an OK from the authors wouldn't make that thingy some more legal. BIS pointed quite clear out, that you must not make any comercial use of stuff being made with o2 and even not with summit made in ofp editor. btw - for those who try to remind of CD creators time effort being spent for burning CD and collecting together everything, etc. This is nothing compared to that time it takes for addon makers to bring there addons ingame, and this is also not a reason to earn any money out of it (even if it's only 1 cent or so at the end). ~S~ CD
