cozza 24 Posted March 28, 2006 that a nice lookin LR but whats the Snatch used for ?
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 The snatch is essentially an armoured land rover (although I'll use the term armoured loosely, its basically a fibreglass resin shell that prevents small arms fire passing through, but nothing larger than 5.56 and possible 7.62). The snatch was developed from the british armys deployment in northern ireland, and the lessons learned there. They realised that to work efficiently and safely in such a hostile urban environment, the army would require a lightly armoured vehicle, geared towards riot control/molotov cocktails, rock throwing etc. The name snatch comes from the sort of missions the vehicles would be used for, driven into hostile areas of belfast in the small hours of the night, to perform 'snatch' missions, basically arresting or 'snatching' someone from their house with the minimal of effort of trouble. The vehicle has gone through many guises over the years, but the latest one is a combination of everything the vehicle has been through since its first deployment. It is used in iraq as an alternative to the warrior or the saxon, because it is quicker, smaller, more agile and also doesnt look as threatening to the local population (hearts and minds). It can be used from everything to checkpoint control, vip transport, convoy escort and alot more. The hatch in the roof (or the top cover) allows up to two soldiers to provide cover with their small arms whilst the vehicle is in use. Bullet proof windows, run flat tires, and riot cages ensure the greatest level of protection from small scale engagements, and the ability to drive off when under threat. They are, however, quite vunerable to rpg, ied, shaped charges etc due to the fact that they're not you're arctiple armoured vehicle. If you search on ogrish, there is a video of one coming under attack from an IED and manages to drive off a fair while, whilst the two guys in the top cover provide covering fire. Blackbuck 9 Posted March 28, 2006 PUKF as futrue projects maybe you would consider making; A pack containing the new pinzgauer 4x4 and 6x6 used by HM RMC like a landrover WMIK but bigger, ahrdtop version and standard soft top version. Panther 4x4 RECCE vehicle entering service as we type A WMIK with an Istec twin minimi mount would be nice (although it would only be possible to use the one, maybe mount on the rear pannier like the Istec mount for the "gimpy" new PNVS helmet mounted NV system monocular type finally the L108A1 Minimi machine gun and the L110A1 Minimi Para Machine gun whic are now entering widespread service PM me for more details if your intrested in anything
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 a few answers: 1. Pinz has been considered and place on our futrue projects list already. 2. Panther FCLV has been considered too, but due to its minor deployment currently, and the lack of any interior pictures, it will be on hold will we get our grubby mitts on some info. 3. We'll not be doing a dual GPMG for the exact reason you posted. 4. Being applied to DPM 2.0 5. I'm pretty certain the para version is already available in our weapons pack. A SUSAT mounted one will be available in the future.
Blackbuck 9 Posted March 28, 2006 those are some good answers i will start looking for interior pics of the panther *grabs combat and survival mag* my advice to you and this is good advice is to try and get to DVD 06 (defence vehicle dynamics) you will probably be able to get some interior pics of it amongst all the other vehicles coming into service with the UK armed forces. 1 last thing any chance of a Mk19 armed WMIK being as they can and do mount them i noticed one of the snatch screenies with a soldier atop is that a gunner or cargo position? yours happily helping_hand
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 correction on the MK19 - the can, but dont as far as we're aware and our advisors tell us. I'd be impressed if you can find one picture of a WMIK in combat with a MK19. The MK19 fitting was intended for special forces use, the same as the intention that a minigun could be fitted onto the WMIKS - i dont think it ever was done on a field vehicle, perhaps on a show model/prototype. [edit] just noticed you last question about the snatch - it is indeed a gunner position with a few things thrown in
NSX 8 Posted March 28, 2006 Glad to see h_h is now helping you.The work should move a bit faster from now on. Also great snatch video, guys.
tankieboy 0 Posted March 28, 2006 i noticed one of the snatch screenies with a soldier atop is that a gunner or cargo position? Watch our Snatch video mate
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 although fraps doesnt seem to be able to capture vehicle muzzle flash, so you'll only be able to see the smoke from their weapons (pain in the arse fraps)
Daniel 0 Posted March 28, 2006 Is there much chance of a LMG that only takes a rifle slot as opposed to a heavy weapons slot? Can't wait for the Snatch.
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 nope... they're soldiers, not rambo seems a common reply - cant wait for snatch
NSX 8 Posted March 28, 2006 Well,I can't wait for Supacat and Pinkie. (doesnt' seem to be an equal reply) Have you some plans on them?
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 supacat is planned, pinkie is not.
NSX 8 Posted March 28, 2006 Ehm, and why is it still in your projects page so? Â It's a shame such SF jeep won't come out...And what plans about SAS? Â
DKM Jaguar 0 Posted March 28, 2006 It's not a jeep...
NSX 8 Posted March 28, 2006 @Jaguar Here in Russia word "jeep" is usual name for all offroad 4*4 vehicles.Although I know the fact Pinkie is LR. So,Hummer and UAZ are jeeps too.
DKM Jaguar 0 Posted March 28, 2006 Yeah I was just joking, it's the same term here.
Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 our addons page needs some tidying up it seems. They were planned at first, but have since been scrapped for various reasons, all of which will become clear when we release our final few encarnations of the land rover. Only ever seen the single GPMG or L1 in use. Got any pictures? Again concur with Messiah on the Mk 19, it's not something I've ever come across. Didn't know FCLV (Panther) was coming into service, trials aren't till later this year and the vehicle isn't due into service till 2007. As far as I know only the Para minimi is currently on general issue. Sorry about the random order!
Pathy 0 Posted March 28, 2006 Contrary to the popular belief that SAS run around the battlefield in respirators and black kit, and as far as i know, (and this is the assumption i am going to work under while making any SF units), the appearance SAS are not vastly different to any other British infantry - at the end of the day, they are still infantry, albiet elite, and wear the same basic kit as your standard infantryman. Most of the pictures of "SAS" in green kit on the internet....aren't - rather usually from some or other "special" unit (ie, not line infantry, but recce units, pathfinders, ect). Thus what we will do is a generic "SF" unit, to cover the various Recce and special operations units. Of course they'll have no badges, as is the nature of such units, so you'll be able to pretend you're whatever SF unit you wish when using the generic SF model. This is not open to debate. Messiah 2 Posted March 28, 2006 seeing as i proposed them to your goodself, yes mate - the new wmik pack will use the new weapons. the snatch wont use the mounted 556 belt, as its effectivly still a hand held weapon.
