you could make the missle an AI object and have it fly toward the laser target. as is the various tomahawk missel mods.

all you would really have to do is steal the missel from inflight and repalce it with the AI one....

the trick however, would be to register the kill to the player.

just my suggestion

Well the missile should have no problem hitting the laser target from behind the hill (unless the position of the laser on the radar is wrong) but the problem would be getting the apache to lock on to it. But I am sure that if all else fails the pilot can take a quick peak up from the hill just to aquire the target then duck down behind the hill and fire. There is a chance sometimes that the LOAL missile will miss if you are moving too fast at a certian angle to the target but hey your not supposed to do that anyways and Im sure you would have the same problem IRL trying to keep the laser pointed at the target while moving...

Again, I understand reality and OFP don't always coincide, but...

LOAL is actually the preferred method to shoot for a multitude of reasons. Keeping the laser on target isn't all that hard once you can see the target (on FLIR/DTV).

But, if sometimes missing the target in OFP is the price we pay for having LOAL in game (on something besides the BAS LB), then I can certainly live with it. Keep up the great work. Look forward to the update.

an chance you could make the sights (the ones on the nose, what are they called? TADS?) move with the gun? would look more realistic imho smile_o.gif

No, it is not possible, and to even animate it is impossible for it could only move on one axis.

Marco will be doing the textures and the cockpits in the D models will be updated.

uhm LOAL is for radar guided Hellfires. A laser guided missile requires the target to be painted before launch. If laser is turned off during mid-flight the Hellfire will selfdestruct after 3 seconds if the laser has not been reactivated.

And LOBL is the preferred method simply because it has a higher hit-probability and a longer range but you're also exposing yourself alot longer to enemy radars by having your radar on all the time.

Can't you animate it sweeping left to right with the chaingun?

Also animate the PNVS with the pilot-view maybe?

No, it wouldn't be able to follow the gun, simply because there is no way to get the direction the gun is facing. And you are wrong about LOAL, LOAL is most definatly included on laser guided hellfires. Let me explain the difference.

LOBL:

The missile is allready locked on to its target and once fired it climbs to a certian altitude then falls back down at its target. It does this to hit the top of the tank which has weaker armor.

LOAL:

The missile is fired before a lock is aquired, it automatically climbs to a certian altitude and IF it aquires a target and locks on it will come back down on the target. I can see why LOAL would be prefered but it does take longer to strike its target, so I would probably guess that LOBL is the prefered launch method when dealing with threats to the chopper.

Now, unfortunatly in OFP there is no way to lock on after launch confused_o.gif , so I simply made LOBL direct fire and LOAL just goes up and comes back down on its target...

Yes, you explained how LOAL and LOBL works and yes, I already knew that.

Still, laser guided Hellfires requires and positive lock before launch. A laser-guided HF is LOBL-only. Check it up if you don't believe me. Only radar-guided HFs can use LOAL.

What you can do with laser-guided HFs is that you can ripple-fire them and slew the TADS to another target the moment your first missile impacts. Just make sure you got enough room between the missiles for the rest of them to maneuver to your next designated target or they will selfdestruct if they can't hit your target. Radar-guided HFs can not do this as they are pre-programmed while they're on the missile-rack.

edit: Thanks for the PM about the info, gatordev smile_o.gif

Shadow, I'm sorry, but you're mistaken.  The AGM-114A/B/K are all laser guided.  They all can be shot in LOAL.  LOAL, or more specifically LOAL-HI or LO, will give you the most range.  Whatever the public range for the HF is, increase that a smidge, and that's the range you get w/ LOAL-HI or LO.  I'm looking at my Hellfire shot cards that dug out of my flight bag to confirm all this.

When I shot my hellfire during workups, I shot it LOAL-DIR, and the missle didn't blow up (it did blow the crap out of the evil and dangerous bullseye, though).  I've never heard the self-destruct feature before, but I can assure you it doesn't do that.  I've had friends who fired one and never found the laser energy and we never saw the thing again, but it didn't blow up...at least not until it hit the water somewhere.  You can also ripple fire the -114A/B/K (in LOAL), but you need to be fast and have the right flight profile for it to work (the HF isn't very forgiving).

Again, LOAL is preferred for many reasons that I don't really want to get into here.  Don't think of LOBL and LOAL as just lock-on before or after, but also as a flight profile.  Again, kind of cryptic, and I appologize, but that's as far as we should probably go.

Kyle, sorry for the threadjacking.  Again, helo sounds awesome.

*EDIT: because I'm an idiot and got the two missle designations we used to carry confused. Thanks Shadow.*

Theres another website that has the same video, same sound quality but smaller resolution and size, around 20 megs I think..

Also don't forget,if that 70mm rocket sound were to be applied its what the gunner and pilot would hear and outside it would be even more high pitched.

I know what ya thinkin,I'd be tryin to sabatog the project but thats not my goal, sabatoging your project is not my interest.

in case anyone was wondering i ran a quick test and this new version is compatable with Y2K3 7.2

I have tried to use the addon but recieved a message of a missing model in the PBO itself, i wasn't amused. Either way it look like i'll have fun reaping fear into Soviet soldiers with this Apache, so i can't wait. Now, is it just me or is the 1.21 file not present on the Stealth Net server? huh.gif

Is there a WAH in the pack?

Yeah,IF you would call that a WAH-64,its nothing more than a roundel, nothing, this pack has nothing,no moving MFD's or anything, why do you stay with the same old thing? And what is with the large list,I got to scroll through 50+ helicopters just to find the right one,and why did you add black/olive drab and desert for each one? Nobody uses desert but Israel.
