ozanzac 0 Posted September 15, 2004 I've just come home from the pub, having had undoubtedly, the best and most Australian meal I've had in a long time. A brilliant Kangaroo Mignon comprised of a fillet of kangaroo, wrapped in bacon and served with mushroom sauce, with a siding of baked potatoes and salad, all washed down with a nice cold Coopers Pale Ale. Which got me thinking.....What are the other fine cuisines on offer around the world, that are specific or unique to your local area? Doesn't matter what it is, be it something that has been secret family recipe passed down the generations or the 'chef's special' the guy down the local pizza shop makes. Allow me to expand my horizons and give myself food for thought.
hellfish6 7 Posted September 15, 2004 Nothing really special about cuisine here, but Puerto Rican food seems to be quite prevalent. It's fairly simple - broiled chicken with rice or beans and plaintains or yucca - with little spice or intriguing flavor, but you usually get a lot and it's quite edible. Of course, Southern BBQ is available as well, which I've learned to enjoy here. BBQ sauce can make anything taste good.
Placebo 29 Posted September 15, 2004 Grimsby is a former fishing town so the "delicacy" there is Fish and Chips, always fresh and very cheap, Å1 for fish, chips & scraps, wonderful Only thing I've missed (other than my Mum) since moving to the Czech Republic Picture may not represent finished product
hellfish6 7 Posted September 15, 2004 What's the green stuff?

JdB 151 Posted September 15, 2004 What's the green stuff? The fish the previous person threw up? The Netherlands don't really have special things, we use the ''French cuisine''... Best thing I can think of is this: It's called ''kroket''
hellfish6 7 Posted September 15, 2004 In Chicago we had Lou Malnatti's pizza, which is the best deep dish pizza you will ever find. Its got crust on the bottom, tons of cheese and whatever else you want in the middle and the sauce on top. My parents send me frozen pizzas from Lou's every once in a while - a great break from the otherwise banal Florida fare. Also, the best hot dogs in the world come from Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Nothing beats skipping work to catch an afternoon game on a weekday, with hot dogs and beer. I miss Chicago.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted September 15, 2004 Kangaroo provides great tender meat, no doubt. Many exclusive restaurant in switzerland are using it in combination with a trendy aussie wine. But for a kangoroo using the front of the tenderloin or using the end (filet mignon) is making no difference. Mignon just may sound better. And they love to spell it fillet. It is like saying fries francais or french frittes. Â Sorry, couldnt help it to complain
canukausiuka 1 Posted September 15, 2004 The biggest local thing for me would have to be the Slugburger: http://www.gotricities.com/content/article.dna?idnumber=030723115143 of course, as a more regional thing, we also have good stuff like Chocolate gravy and your typical assortment of Southern foods Actually, in the last year or so, my town has gained an Italian restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and a Chinese restaurant. Â Now there is a bit of choice, instead of catfish/steaks or burgers - not they are bad, but a bit of diversity is nice (ie: when you want Mexican, it beats driving 30miles to Corinth to get it ;) )

Balschoiw 0 Posted September 15, 2004 Ok this is only a little excerpt fromthe local cuisine as we just have too much tasty meals  Bavaria is a nice place to live in when it comes to meals and beer. My favourite that I cook often as the guests demand it. I don´t cook it with a Knödel, but with little potatoe parts and spice it up with tabasco, hungarian paprika, let it stir for half of a day to get the meat perfectly weak and the sauce thick. Another speciality is the well know Schweinsbraten, although I don´t like it that much as it is too fat. I like Knödel with sauce though. This one is with potatoe knödels, while I like white bread knödels. For dessert take a Dampfnudel with vanilla sauce. It´s served hot and very tasty. I don´t cook sweet stuff. I leave that up to my girlfriend. I cook a lot of asian stuff as we both do like that very much, but also Chilli´s, duck, coated pork and more. I like to cook for recreation and relaxation. It´s also fun to plan diners and go especially shopping for them. I like to try new recipes and collect them. Not only new ones but also traditional recipes or foreign ones. You see, cooking is one of my hobbies
-33ker 0 Posted September 15, 2004 Döner is the best thing you can get that could be labeled as "German cuisine". It's not a meal you can only get in Germany though. But the german is the best! I once tried it in England and it was horrible! Tasted like a dead granny's armpit! poor specimen of a Döner
