jakerod 254 Posted September 13, 2004 Looks a lot like a hind.
AdmiralKarlDonuts 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Yep, from what I read in a quick search, it's an Mi-24 'Hind-E' fitted with a twin-barreled 23mm gun instead of a 12.7mm in the nose. Â I read something about "direct air support" or some similarly vague description of what the difference actually is. It also looks like an engine upgrade or refit on this model, possibly some fire-control or other avionics upgrades. *EDIT* This from globalsecurity.org: "Mi-24V (Hind-E) is another improved version, a development of Mi-24D. The major change consists in the upgraded and more efficient SHTURM - V missile system with 9M114 (AT-6 Spiral) radio-guided anti-tank missiles launched from two pairs of cylindrical pods mounted on wingtips. Also added were B-8V rocket pods for 20 80 mm S-8 rockets, UPK-23-250 pods with two-barrel Gsh-23L and 250 rounds, GUV9A universal pods which can carry a 30 mm 9-A-800 automatic grenade launcher, or one 12.7 mm 9-A-624 four-barrel machine gun and two four-barrel 7.62 mm 9-A-622 machine guns. It was equipped with TV3-117V engines with improved height characteristics and optional exhaust mixer boxes to cool exhaust gasses, and auxiliary fuel tanks with a capacity of 450 litres. Crowley 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Not exactly what he's looking for, but there is a very nice Mi24V in the works: http://www11.tok2.com/home2/oekusee/index.htm
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted September 13, 2004 So basicly the Mi-25 is just another update op the Mi-24. This time (finally) doing something about the HUGE engine-exhausts (which makes the chopper such an easy target for an IR missile). Looks nice, but for OFP it would be just like any other hind. I suggust trying the ones in the CSLA mod. The one in the link above is not release jet. I mailed the creator to find out more about it and to find out if it's meant for release (we sure hope so). The guy who makes it as 'Scars', who also produced the near-perfect Leopard2 A5.

If you pay atention to detail you will notice a refined hull shape as well as the additonal avionics pack. The Mi 35 (m) is the export version equiped for night attack and air asault . MontyVCB 0 Posted September 13, 2004 u should see the version BAE are doing for poland it looks sweet! , but yeah, someone should really consider it, maybe RHS may do it with their hind pack?
soul_assassin 1747 Posted September 13, 2004 u should see the version BAE are doing for poland it looks sweet! Â , but yeah, someone should really consider it, maybe RHS may do it with their hind pack? We have pulled out on doing our own pack and intead are collaborating with the maker of the one shown above. Yes it is a release version and damn it looks sweet.
Norris 0 Posted September 13, 2004 It looks awesome! Any word on when the release date might be? Will it also include the version seen in the background of the last picture - with Russian/Soviet markings? p.s.: What about custom marking? That would be really sweet! orson 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Oh indeed , Scars Mi24 is magnificent and will look soo good escorting the Halo , you know.. that one
GoOB 0 Posted September 13, 2004 So, there will be a Mi-35/Mi-24 pack coming out from RHS/Scars in a not too distant future?
@cero 0 Posted September 13, 2004 For what I can see in the pictures of the MI-35 the differences from the MI24s are much greater, I would dare to say that this MI 35 looks more compact and smaller, alot of stuff on the engine area its different aswell, this plus the weapons and navigational sistems makes this a brand new chopper, just similar to the MI 24. Have you seen the new WV Beetle and compared to the old one, just the same but in a armed chopper @CERO.
panzergrenadier3 38 Posted September 13, 2004 Wow, there are many great pictures out there: HERE ore HERE ore HERE Would be a very great addon!
bmgarcangel 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Man these helicopters are tight, the armor on them protecting like the pilots and stuff is supreme. If I were to fly a helicopter in one of the militarys, i'd want to fly this one... ~Bmg
Jinef 2 Posted September 13, 2004 Looks like the usual russian kit. Would be nice to have I suppose but what would be nicer is a new flight model or at least a scripted flight model so helicopters actually fly like helicopters.

Has already been posted. First read the thread. The model is by Scars who also made the awesome Leopard2A5. His texture-work is awesome

miles teg 1 Posted September 14, 2004 I just wanted to point out that the Russian military is still using older model Mi-24's. If I remember correctly the Mi-35 is mainly an export model while the Mi-24VP is the equivalent to the variant with the nose mounted 23mm guns. There are also variants of the Mi-35/Mi-24VP that have thermal imaging/targetting pods on them and still others that have been upgraded to NATO standards with a comprehensive electronic counter measures (ECM) suite. Still other Mi-35's retain the old 12.7mm gattling gun. Then there are also the Mi-24V/Mi-35 Hinds that have the fixed 23mm cannons on the sides. This is actually the most common variant. I have also heard of some export variants that have a nose mounted 30mm cannon. At any rate, I still would very much like to see the Mi-35/Mi-24VP variant in the picture modelled by someone. It does look very impressive. The old 23mm cannons it uses are still extremely effective and while I image that the 23mm turret is usually locked into a forward position in most attack runs, the turret still gives the Hind crew more flexibility such as doing orbiting attacks where the pilot flys an orbit around the target while the gunner fires into it with the turret facing sideways. However this is the least optimal manner of engaging a target because the helicopter remains in a relatively slow-speed orbit where it is easy to hit. This is why US Army AH-64 Apache gunship crews and USMC Super Cobra crews have adopted the Russian strategy of high speed attacks. But still even in these types of attacks, having a turret allows the gunner to concentrate on engaging the target while the pilot concentrates on avoiding enemy fire and not flying into obstacles. At any rate...hopefully we'll see this variant in OFP as it does look very cool. The Hind is still after all this time, my favorite helicopter in OFP. Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Actually a turret is allways better. It's not allways needed to make a fast straving run. Most of the times this done while engaging armored units with FFAR's or when you are flying over a high-risk area (urban for example). With a turret you have a lot more flexibility and when you have to provide CAS at an urban are it's albsolutley needed. With the turret you can look down, scan the narrow streets and engage the enemy. With fixed cannons you can only make a fast run. If you don't know where the enemy is than fixed cannons are a disadvantage. One of the newer Hinds would be neat to have in OFP. With all the sensors and other hardware attached to the nose section these birds keep getting uglier. So ugly infact that's it's close to art and becomes beautifull. I love it

It's big, it's ugly, it's powerful and it's hard to kill. Even in Flashpoint I get chills when one of them circles above (especially the CSLA versions - the Hind looses some of it's awesomeness when the landing gear is down, like the BIS version)
