llauma 0 Posted September 1, 2004 This is what Suma said about OFP vs. OPF: Quote[/b] ]If you check what we ever wrote, we are using OFP or sometimes FP - but I have to say that I do not mind if anyone is using OPF. From the language point of view OPF seems like nonsense to me, as P does not stand for any word - therefore if anyone is abbreviating it this way, it should be written OpF at least - if not OF).Technically speaking, there is no official abbreviation, the only really ofiicial thing is the title name (and Codemaster trademark), which is Operation Flashpoint. Heatseeker 0 Posted September 1, 2004 OFP= OFeration Plashpoint.. Flashpoint is a single word so OP has Operation+F for Flashpoint . It could be OF or Op.F but never OFP. Placebo is right, OPF forever .
InqWiper 0 Posted September 2, 2004 Quote[/b] ]you would say Operation Free Dom ? "Dom" is a word?
Milkman 1 Posted September 2, 2004 Quote[/b] ]you would say Operation Free Dom ? "Dom" is a word? He is making a point. Flashpoint is one word, yet it is abbreviated which is nonsence. If it was Flash Point or Flash-point it would be okay.
Radnik 18 Posted September 2, 2004 Flashpoint is one word, yet it is abbreviated which is nonsence. If it was Flash Point or Flash-point it would be okay. Â "Point" in flashpoint is like "Dom" in freedom, meaninless... like i said from the begining, correctly is Op(O)F.
USSRsniper 0 Posted September 2, 2004 Radnik i dont care what is right but OFP is better
Harnu 0 Posted September 2, 2004 Flashpoint is one word, yet it is abbreviated which is nonsence. If it was Flash Point or Flash-point it would be okay. Â "Point" in flashpoint is like "Dom" in freedom, meaninless... like i said from the begining, correctly is Op(O)F. I use OFP. I guess I use it like that because I broke the entire name down into it's own seperate words. Â Operation Flash Point. Â Since they are all actual, not to mention often used and practical words, unlike the "dom"* in "freedom", it only made sense to me to seperate them. Â Operation Flash Point. * : Dom having the meaning of: Quote[/b] ]Used formerly as a title for male members of Portuguese and Brazilian royalty, aristocracy, and hierarchy, preceding the given name. Roman Catholic Church. Used as a title before the names of Benedictine and Carthusian monks in major or minor orders.

Balschoiw 0 Posted September 2, 2004 I want to see all those OPF lovers in the stores when OFP 2 comes out and they panically keep asking for OPF 2 ...and they will be sent home crying tears of bitterness, while the clever OFP 2 guy has his first catapult start from a major carrier
SpecOp9 0 Posted September 2, 2004 I call it OFP. If you're more of the Military person you would call it OPF
Winters 1 Posted September 2, 2004 I call it OFP.If you're more of the Military person you would call it OPF Im a military person (former) and Bals is current and we both call it OFP, Operation FlashPoint. The only reference i ever make to a OPF is when i call it Op Flash. OFP= Rolls off the tongue OPF= Dammage to my ears.
llauma 0 Posted September 2, 2004 One more reason to call it OFP is that the game was called Flash Point while it was being developed. Therefor the abbreviation was FP so adding an O to it when Operation was added is logical. OpFP sounds way too stupid...
4 IN 1 0 Posted September 2, 2004 i wouldnt mind someone using OPF if they want, but dont you EVER speak it out loud or i might beat that SOB to death, OPeration Flashpoint, cant thank of any more stupid pronunciation then this, not thing complex, just a little "Oral issus". OFP ALL THE WAY~
korax 4 Posted September 2, 2004 Well now it seems there are a lot of opinions here, I say we have a poll to finish it once and for all! Winner takes all
redface 1 Posted September 2, 2004 OPF --> if you take the first two letters of the the first word, you should also take two letters of the second, no? which would be: OPFL which sounds like a league OFP therefore makes more sense to me (first letters of all stressed syllables = which is most common abbreviation practice, I don't drive a VOW, I call it a VW) just recently, I came across some guys who call it OPFLAP, considering themselves seriously to be OPFLAPPERS

Placebo 29 Posted September 2, 2004 BIS use both OFP and OPF. The reason why it's OPF on the forum is because placebo says OPF and he's the über admin. I must say for the record that Opf as in "Opf missions" pre-dates me, I'm probably to blame for the sub headings though All those years ago when I thought about the title in my head and a short way of saying it, Ofp to me always sounded like an effeminate man with a lisp, whereas Opf sounded meaty, and manly and such, being a left hander I quite like continuing to be part of a minority
FatJoe 0 Posted September 2, 2004 *fiddles with Placebo's red curly hair* You just like OPF better becaus it sounds nearly the same as Opium *hides under a desk* I've grown up with it as OFP (ofpec.com) never really approved of OPF :\ as I'm righthanded I like to be part of a majority *pats Placebo to keep him happy* Cheers Joe
shadow 6 Posted September 2, 2004 Well now it seems there are a lot of opinions here, I say we have a poll to finish it once and for all! Winner takes all  There's no point in having a poll. The right side (the OFP-side) would win anyway. Even placebo here admitted to being a left wing minority Conclusion: OPFP and OPF are both wrong while OFP being the only correct word and the solution to all of the world problems. azimut0 0 Posted September 2, 2004 OFP for Opération FlashPoint
berghoff 11 Posted September 2, 2004 OFP ofcourse, Operation Flashpoint OPF doesn't sounds right OPeration Flashpoint

Ian Malcolm 0 Posted September 2, 2004 If i remember it well, in first Flashpoint iMagic advertisements (in 1998) it was writen like: FLASH POINT I had image of it somewhere, but i can't find it
