I am here once again to say that Canadian TV stations   SUCK at covering the Olympics.  They show almost only events where Canadians are participating and have a good chance.  Showing the same competitions with Canadians doing well over and over and over, while other nation's statistics and other full competitions are not show.

This really sucks, first it was totally screwed up Le Mans coverage, now this.

Even American TV stations are covering the olympics better because they have contenders in more competitions.  wink_o.gif

The Olympics are not just about your own country, especially in Canada....  I am so frustrated about that.  tounge_o.gif

I think the opposite. I've seen Canadian athletes, but they cover all events otherwise. Hell, I don't even see most Canadian athletes.

I think you're mad just because your Canadian  biggrin_o.gif

I do it too. The Canadian stations are either not doing enough or doing too much. They're either covering too much on Canadian athletes or they're not covering them enough  tounge_o.gif

back to Hockey. The matches were awesome (china vs Germany) and I dont understand your complaints. It is one of the sports with the sweetest women, the nicest dresses and the shortest skirts wink_o.gif and it is full of good action.

Did some of you watch the Handball game yesterday (spain vs Germany) that was awesome as well. Not because germany played but because goals were scored in the LAST second of the match and the decision came through penalty-throwing at the end. REALY awesome! smile_o.gif

Yay! Our first gold medal - ever!

Quote[/b] ]Gal Friedman wins Gold

By FRANKIE SACHS

Gal Friedman won Israel's first Olympic gold medal ever in the 2004 Olympics Wednesday.

The route had been shortened, and Friedman advanced towards the finishing line neck-to-neck with British contender Nick Dempsy overtaking him at the last possible moment.

He was followed by Greek contender Nikos Kaklamanakis who came in second.

Friedman's final race in the men's Mistral windsurfing competition was the event Israeli sports fans have been waiting generations for. Friedman is the first Israeli athlete to win two Olympic medals, having won bronze in 1996.

Points are calculated according to the finishing order of each race, i.e. one point for a first-place finish, two for second, three for third, etc.

In the overall standings, the worst result for each sailor in any of the eleven races is disregarded. Since Friedman's worst result was eighth place in the first race, while Santos's poorest finish was 17th in the sixth race and Kaklamanakis came in 14th in the fourth sail, the Israeli had more room for error on Wednesday.

After Monday's races, Friedman told reporters that it would "be better for me to have stronger winds because the only one who is really good in strong winds is Przemyslaw [Miarczynski of Poland], who cannot pass me in the overall [standings]."

At the time of the race, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service predicted northeast winds blowing at over five meters per second.

Meanwhile, Friedman's female counterpart, Lee Korsitz, will also finish her part in the games today. Korsitz, currently ranked 13th, will aim to edge closer to the top 10 with a strong result.

And Israeli kayakist Roei Yellin qualified for the finals Wednesday morning after finishing third in his 1,000 m. semi-final race. The final will take place Friday noon.

After placing fourth in the world championships last year, Yellin was expected to advance, by improving on his qualifying time of 3:34.036, since five of the kayakers in his heat bested that time in their qualifying heats.

Following yesterday's wrestling disappointments, Ya'acov Manasherov will try and redeem Israel's international reputation when he competes in the under-74 kg Greco-Roman class.

Manasherov was drawn to Pool D, and faces 26-year-old Danil Khalimov from Kazakhstan, who placed fourth at last year's world championships, in his first bout.

In the evening, the king of Israeli track & field, pole-vaulter Alex Averbukh, will begin his quest for Israel's third medal of the games. Averbukh, the reigning European champion and a former world runner-up, will compete in the qualifying for Friday's final. He was placed in Group B, alongside Germany's Tim Lobinger and Danny Ecker, Australia's Dmitri Markov, and American Timothy Mack. Only Mack has a better result this season than Averbukh, who cleared 5.85 meters earlier this year at a meet in Finland. His personal best is 5.93-m.

The qualification standard for the final has been set at 5.70-m. If there aren't 12 athletes who clear that height during the evening, the vaulters with the top 12 results will make the final.

Jolly good games these have been so far, but i must say, im very dissapointed with the Judging in some of the events, especially with the Boxing and Gymnastics.

Some extremely incompetent judging has been displayed so far.

And my my Australia is doing extremely well in the Cycling biggrin_o.gif

Have you ever seen a fair judgement in a boxing fight? No sport is more corrupt than this specific one. It is a known fact!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

bloody judges cant judge. The russian should of won. Bit funny how they had to stop the event for a while because everyone was booing, and the only person who could calm the crowd down was the russian.

Also the Athenians have hi-jacked the olympics from the rest of Greece.

Anyone watch women's synchronized swimming? Two Russian sisters (I believe) did something I have never seen before, got 10's and 9,9's. Their routine was god damn perfect!!!

I don't normally watch that stuff, but I turned on the Olympic channel and was astonished when they were doing it. smile_o.gif

more on Greek tragedy

Quote[/b] ]ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Prosecutors seized the hospital records Wednesday of two Greek sprinting stars who withdrew from the Olympics after they missed a doping test and were involved in a suspicious motorcycle accident.

A source told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that prosecutors visited the KAT trauma hospital and left with the records of Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou.

Kenteris, the surprise 200-meter gold medalist in 2000, and Thanou, who took silver in the 100 meters in Sydney, could not be found at the Olympic Village for an Aug. 12 drug test. Hours later, they said they were involved in a motorcycle accident that happened because they were rushing back to the Olympic village to be tested. They spent several days in the KAT hospital with cuts and bruises, and later withdrew from the Olympics.

Now, prosecutors are investigating the motorcycle accident and whether the two national stars were deliberately trying to avoid drug tests. Kenteris and Thanou have denied any wrongdoing.

In another development, a man who said he witnessed the accident was arrested Wednesday after police discovered he had an outstanding warrant against him for a fraud conviction in an unrelated case, a police and court source told the AP.

At least two people, both unidentified, have told police they witnessed the accident -- including one who said he drove them to the hospital. All the witnesses talked to authorities after the two athletes were released from the hospital.

As part of the probe, fraud inspectors with Greece's Finance Ministry searched the offices of the sprinters' coach, Christos Tsekos, for six hours Monday, seizing documents and computers from his food supplements company in Athens.

Last week, inspectors from Greece's National Organization of Medicines raided the offices and a warehouse, and confiscated some items that they said contained small amounts of anabolic steroids.

Government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos said Wednesday that the sports ministry gave prosecutors records indicating that a number of companies, including one belonging to Tsekos, had allegedly received unauthorized subsidies from Greece's former Socialist government.

"The prosecutor will announce the results of his investigation when it is over," Roussopolos said when asked about the alleged subsidies, which he said were worth about $1.8 million.

Roussopoulos refused to say what the subsidies were for.

Two leading Greek newspapers, To Vima and Eleftherotypia, have in recent days published reports that the former Socialist government, which lost to the conservatives in March elections, allegedly were approached by Tsekos with plans to help train numerous Greek athletes for a fee.

Tsekos and his lawyer have not commented publicly on the reports and calls to their offices by the AP were not immediately returned. Senior officials in the former Socialist government also have denied the claims.

One bad experience in Athens

During the 200m sprint finals the greek fans started whisteling and boo-ing the sprinters. Actually it was so loud that they could not hear the start-shot.

Reason: They demanded Kenteris, the greek sprinter who got disqualified for doping.

I think that is pretty bad. A sportsman who cheats should not be called a sportsman and definetly not be treated as a hero. I dont have any doubt that Kenteris tried to get around the tests and the circumstances are too damn ridiculous to believe him.

So stay fair and dont bohooo the sprinters that come for a fair competition. mad_o.gif

It was pathetic. You think the hosts would act with a little decorum. Instead we get a rabble of chanting fools, who are upset that their drug taking/fraudster of an athelete didn't compete.

They should direct their ire at the dumbass who skipped his drug test, and the allegedly faked a motorcyle accident.

Also, they said something about the Greek press coming up with some allegations of a conspiracy of some kind (with the Americans in the middle of course). Anyone know about that?
