vektorboson 8 Posted June 17, 2004 As this is more a copy thingy than a real way of transportation an ethical question arises: once you have the copy of yourself in the other place - what do you do with the original? Kill it??? Yes, you kill it. Denoir already said, that the original has to be destroyed. It's really a shame that people call it transportation, where it just means, that you copy the exact status of one particle onto another. If there actually was the possiblity to "teleport" humans, I wouldn't let anyone teleport me. It's just the "destroy the original"-thingie that would disturb me
-=BT=- Matty R 0 Posted June 17, 2004 ok ok when i see a human teleported and they say "that was cool" then id be amazed but for now i dont give a s**t. If they started to do that, civils prob would not be able to use it because the US militery would use it for there use only... then maybe in 100 years time they would give it to us civis.. thats my point! Gollum1 0 Posted June 17, 2004 Imagine if they did succeede at developing teleportation at a significant level.Sorry geeks, but I dont think that the first thing this technology is applied to will be upgrading your precious computers. Oh how pwned we are, if you would have read a bit before your post you would have known that this isn't the sort of movie teleportation you think you know something about. DarkLight 0 Posted June 17, 2004 Any small weak nation(like Belgium for example) with this technology would immediately have an advantage so great as to be able to beat any other nation on the globe decisively. Just something to think about. Yeah that's right, our "weak" nation is going to kick everyone's ass in only a couple thousand years! Eat that!!! (and no, we're not gonna use 'frites' launcher ran, grrrrrrr) Weak... hmpff Let's see who's weak THEN!!!!
DarkLight 0 Posted June 17, 2004 You just happen to know that on top of your head Are you insane? I have google. I looked up all the atomic weights volumes etc.. All I did was set up two equations and populated them with numbers that I googeled: number of molecules in a human body = mass * (molar weight) and number of earths= volume of earth/ ( volume of a grain of salt * (number of molecules in a human body ) ) It's elementary school level math. Yeah I had to do this kinda crap for my chemistry exam this week...only a bit harder... It can be confusing but if you spend some time on it (or if you just look it up on google ) it can be done without too much trouble ... actually i doubt that i'll have good grades for chemistry this year... goddamn i hate chemistry... I'm 17 years old and i need to learn this kind of stuff... Sheeesh, as if i feel like knowing all that... HELL NO I DONT!!
jakerod 254 Posted June 17, 2004 There is something I saw on the history channel one time where they did some kind of teleportation thing with a ship to different ports in the US (after WW2, Einstein was helping). The thing was that the crew was all fused to the ship after it they teleported it to different places. They were bonded on a molecular level with it. Meaning they were half in the ship like merging into walls and floors and things like that. Believe it if you wish, I don't know if its true I still don't know if I believe it I just thought I would bring it up.

Actually the so called "Philedelphia Experiment" had to do with intense magnetic fields that bent light thus making a ship invisable. "Word" is that the intense fields played havoc with peoples neurological systems. Some went insane and others had permanent neurological disorders. Believe it or not. It's all denied anyhoo.... walker 0 Posted June 17, 2004 Imagine the ability to immediately simultaniously teleport hundreds of tanks to positions directly behind large enemy formations, let them all fire for a good 3-5 seconds, then teleporting them out.Assasinations could occur in the blink of the eye. Â Teleport a sniper into position, he takes his shot, and then he disappears again. Hi all Think of it as cut and paste for the universe. As a weapon why transport an assasin or army just transport a lump of blood clot into the targets heart no one would be able to prove it either way. As I understand it this is not able to effected at a distance from big bits of machinery. Of more use might be the ability to record molecules so you can have a form of replicator. Another major use of quantum entanglement as I understand it is faster than light messaging UBER BROADBAND. No more desynch in OFP Multi Player is a more realistic short term goal I think. drewb99 0 Posted June 17, 2004 The Philadelphia expirament's a bunch of dribble, if we really did invent a teleporter and never used it again because it was too unsafe the Russians would've copied it and put one on every ship and submarine by now
shinRaiden 0 Posted June 17, 2004 does nobody else here recall that gordon freeman worked at innsbruck before being transfered to black mesa? the administrator is not going to be pleased... on the other hand, this may help out steam.

If they were to experiment with a teleporter they would not try to teleport men from the start. If the teleporter worked with objects it would be in use today and if it didnt work with objects they would never try it on men. Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted June 17, 2004 You can levitate non-magnetic things (EG frogs) with strong enough magnets
DarkLight 0 Posted June 18, 2004 Awsome news...I just hope they can someday make a pill so when you take it you will never die  Hell no!  I just hope that when i die, i become a ghost... Fuck invisibility cloaks! Oh well... you never know Anyway... Would it actually be possible to transport stuff at incredible speeds?  Or is that not possible at all...  At what ' maximum speed' can it be transported?  You know like how fast could it go from point A to point B? It would be pretty nice for exploration of space IF it would be possible to go very fast... Won't be for our days but maybe one daaaaay...
