Billabong81 0 Posted March 31, 2005 I finally got the hang of torpedos and everything .  Thanks for all the help everyone.  Here is what you have done for me (though I can't figure out how to reload the torpedos yet ).  I got like 7 guys (3 petty officers, 4 sailors) in the torpedo room and they just won't reload?!  How many guys do I need  Anyway, here are the pics of me taking out an enemy merchant ship from 2,000m + away . I spotted him and he was getting away, so I took a potshot and missed. Then I accurately aimed (not really , just another potshot) and hit him, disabling his engines. Moved in to make sure I hit him, as I only had one torpedo left and wasn't sure if the others would reload (as usual, they didn't ). Got about 200m away and finished him off . If anyone has any tips for this damn reload of torpedos, please suggest some! I need the help ! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

JAP 2 Posted April 1, 2005 Hooahman, Be sure you re not in silent mode, if in silent mode all noisy tasks are suspended, also torpedo reloading. To get out of silent mode just click the icon next to the rig for silent mode ( i think it s called, secure from silent mode ) and you ll see they start counting down to load the torpedo's. You can check this with your weapons officer and click last icon that gives you a view of the weapons, if you hold your mouse cursor above an empty torpedo tube you ll see in how much time they gonna reload the torpedo. This has helped me a ton! Â I found out I still did not have enough men in the torpedo room . Â It takes 3min to reload, but at least they reload the tubes now . I had to patrol AN82 today, found an allied merchant ship and sunk the sucker . Â I brightened the pictures in photoshop because I sunk the shop during the night. ebns72 0 Posted April 1, 2005 I see that Gamespot just publish their SH3 review. They've also got links to the official and gameplay trailers. Every rate got 9 except graphic?! Errrm.. Has this guy been playing the game at all? I got a old and terrible graphic card and the graphic is incredible! EDIT: The card is been kicked out when the 512 MB cards are comming EDIT #2: Added quote. I hate gamespot reviews, I find every one inaccurate Never trust them. Billabong81 0 Posted April 2, 2005 Wow, I have finally gotten a good grasp of this game...and all I can say is: after you learn how to play and get good, this game is a blast! The only thing I have not yet figured out is how to recieve radio messages. In the recent events area or whatever it will say "Radio Message Recieved", how do I read it though ? To try and urge people to buy this one, here is a story I have to share about the patrol I just went on : Prior to going on this patrol I got the 3rd submarine available from the start of the 1939 campaign (forget specific designation, sorry!). I was tasked with patrolling sector AN28, which is up by the Southwest Coast of Norway. I went up there and did my 24-hour patrol without even getting a contact. I decided I wanted to test my new sub out, as it had a deck gun and a shitload more torpedos than my previous sub. I went down near the British port just north of Dover. I started going up and down about 50km off the coast, right near this port. I suddenly spot a Merchant ship coming my way, so I dive down to 12m or so and raise my periscope. The ship came within 800m and I blasted him away with 1 torpedo. Start waiting again and another merchant comes along, did the same thing again. While I was engaging the 2nd merchant ship, an armed trawley flanked me from the east. I took care of him with the deck gun, but he got 2-3 shots on my hull. My hull integrity was at 98% at this point. I start pacing and decide to run a little more south, closer to Dover. As I am going down, my sonar-man reports a warship at bering 180° (aka, right behind me ) and closing in fast. I am 10m or so below sea level, so I raise my periscope and realize this destroyer is 1500m or so away. I used a stern torpedo to distract him (which miraculously hit ) as I turned so I could either escape or attack with my 4 bow torpedos if needed. All the sudden one of my crew reports depth charges are in the water. I suddenly realize there are planes flying all around above me, 4-6 of them! At this point, I completely ditch all attempts to take on the destroyer and focus on getting these planes away. I dive to 90m below sea level and stop my engines, just sitting and waiting. I let an hour go by (in accelerated time mind you) and resurface (battery was dying). I then returned to base without a single contact. I'm a terrible writer, but you get the idea . This is an excellent game and I HIGHLY reccomend it to anyone, even if you are not a naval simulator fan (this is my first naval simulation game I have ever played besides battleship ). Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted April 7, 2005 AHA my first convoy after 9 patrols i finally get some decent tonnage. With orders to set sail to patrol grid AM51 which is just of the northern coast of ireland from Wilhelmshaven i had to decide which route to take, either the route north around the Shetlands and the dreaded Scapa Flow where the water is deep but the threat of the British Northern fleet high or to go through the channel which is a very dangerous piece of water with the threat of mines and an active Arial patrols by Allied aircraft and a heavy presence of British troops. With the captain deciding to take the northern route we encountered sailed straight into a storm which was raging on the north western tip of Scotland with heavy fog and rain we nearly hit a German merchant which was way out of the normal axis shipping routes on the way to Scapa Flow. We came along side the axis merchant to exchange supplies as had run out of soft toilet paper and 'All Natural German Ladies' magazine had been depleted, the exchange on the goods was a dangerous task but worth it as moral was high after receiving the goods. After sinking 2 C2 merchants off the east coast of Scotland on the downward journey towards my patrol grid I was sent an urgent message from the BDU, the operator scrambled to the enigma machine to decode the message. He handed me the message with an excited tone of voice hands, It was a notice of a convoy which was heading straight through my patrol gird, the mood onboard was high with this being our first engagement with a convoy but it was met with apprehension as this would be a lot different from sinking British and Norwegian merchants in the north sea, the convoy would most probably have destroyer escort. After searching a probability corridor for the convoy I got sound contact of around 16 merchants plus 1 escort warship. Charting their course and direction I surfaced and at full speed plotted an intercept course ahead of the convoy. I lay in wait for the convoy to arrive, with the sea conditions perfectly calm it couldn’t have been more perfect apart from the skies being clear and the moon out I had to be careful for my periscope not to be spotted. Damn! I cursed three quarters of the convoy was American including a liner which was probably carrying a lot of supplies and munitions but with Hitler’s ban on attacking American merchants I was denied some very juicy targets Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted April 7, 2005 With fire solutions calculated for two C3 cargo vessels and a T2 Tanker I laid in wait for them to sail into the best angle of attack. With the torpedoes ready to fire tubes 1, 2 and 3 where let rip. All the torpedoes hit their target with the first to hit was the one targeted at the tanker. it lit up like a Christmas tree illuminating the entire convoy now I knew it was only a matter of time for the escort to turn around and reach the convoy. The second torpedo hit the C3 cargo ship but with a hole in the bow it still managed to carry on sailing. With the convoy now zigzagging and the escort Destroyer on the scene it was time to get out of their I turned tail and dove 50 meters while running silent, the destroyer deployed depth charges which at times where too close for comfort but after 20 minutes and the convoy sailing on it left the scene and rejoined the convoy. Plotting a course to meet the convoy again and with the convoys course still on the map it was easy to set up another firing location. Surfacing to reload the external torpedo reserves and to gain speed on the convoy ii was not long till the convoy was spotted again. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

With the C3 still intact and sailing after the previous torp hit i was determined to sink her this time, but alas my Weapons officer must have missed a didgit as it sailed straight infront of the ship missing her and in a direct line with the american liner. With the sweat beads sliding down my forehead and praying that it would not hit and sink the American liner I was relived when the torp sailed by the liners stern by about 2 meters. I managed to hit another C3 behind the Liner which was crippled along with a C2 alling prey to my torpedes and C3 carrying allied tanks but again it was not long until the escort was bearing down on me, I crash dived to around 100 meter, rigged for silent and stopped all engines after moving away from my firing position. it was a tense wait as the Destroyer searched for and even sailing straight over me at one point. The destroyer finally moved on and rejoined a now depleted convoy. I was left to destroy the crippled merchant left behind by the fleeing convoy, it was a silent enemy that defeated me one last time, with sea as calm as a mill pond i decided to surface and use the deck guns but alas with winds being too strong with the risk loosing crew i decided to use my remaining rear torpedo to finish her off which was going to be used to attack any merchants on my journey back to base. The journey back especially with the toilet paper and dirty magazines all used up was uneventful and with no torpedoes left it was a long but boring journey back to Wilhelmshaven Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
