oh yes, lots of noise - It was taken on my mobile phone of all things in its own macro mode - its not terrible for a mobile, but it was the scene that presented itself there and then - once I get hold of a new camera (finally) I think i'll redo it - just wanted to share it

I like yours - quite different, something unusual I wouldn't have thought to look at, let alone photograph

I've been trawling through some old pics and found a few 'good' ones... atleast ones i'm not too embaressed to show  wink_o.gif

The first two are of the old cranes by the Exel Conference centre.  I took them at last year's Motorshow.

Docklands_1.jpg

Everytime I see them i think of War of the Worlds!

Docklands_2.jpg

This tree can be found in a plaza on the Southbank of the thames next to City Hall.  Slightly bizarre but it works.

10 points if you name the helicopter.

Don't know if its been guessed yet, but thats a Bell 206 with the battery door open and an R-22 behind it. It is possible that it is a Bell 407 though, but I'd put my money on 206. No way of telling in the pic the difference between a Longranger, 407, or Jetranger.

Here is one I took, not professional looking or anything and I'm not gonna downsize it to this boards circa 1992 100kb file limit rule. So here is the hotlink.

The 500 is lifting a bundle of Christmas Trees, most of the the bigger farms contract helicopters when they harvest trees because they can move the bundles so quickly with a good pilot. Here is what it looks like in a video if you are interested

damn you killagee.....

yeah, all answers where correct biggrin_o.gif

and you´re welcome here anyday..... too bad there isnt too many military airshows anymore....

none this year i think.... (exept the very small one i was on)

maybe one next year... hopefully...

but we have some civilian airshows with military planes participating... Dala Järna is probably the biggest i think... though i have never been there myself

tha namings isnt so strange really...

we mainly use numbers....

fighter planes tend to have odd numbers nowdays....

like JA 37 Viggen (Thunderbolt, scrapped now though)

JAS 39 Gripen (griffin)

and the next one would probably be the JAS 41 (or similar if swedish made)

or maybe JAS 40 if foreign made

and before them

we had J35 Draken (becose of the shape of the wings, Draken means "the kite" or "the dragon"

J34 Hawker Hunter (even number becouse it was a brittish plane)

J32 Lansen (there we have a even number even thoug it´s swedish and the J33 was never built, Lansen means "the lance" btw)

J29 Tunnan (the barrel, as it looked like a barrel)

other planes tend to be named with the next available number...

like, if we buy a new transport plane it would be named "TP 104" as 103 is the latest

same goes for helicopters.... the next helicopter in service will be the NH90 called the HKP 14 (15 is already in service though, but that just becouse it was ordered later)

ground vehicles is similar...

Strv 122 means "the second MBT with 120mm gun"

and Strf 90 (CV90) means "the combat vehicle for the 90´s" as it was designed during the 80´s biggrin_o.gif

simple right? :P the name sjust describe a feature mostly...

Viggen (sounds like thunder becouse of the huge engine)

Draken (as i said, looked like a kite)

Gripen (thats a bit different, but in mythology the griffin was superior to almost everything)

Lansen (the tip of the lance/spear)

Tunnan (as i said, looked like a barrel with wings)

Super Puma (manufacturers name actually)

so as you see, the namings is quite simple really wink_o.gif
