Supah 0 Posted February 6, 2006 Slowly becoming a better photographer:http://img346.imageshack.us/img346/358/flower8zq.th.jpg[/ig] Hmm Ironsight what was your intention with this picture? It looks to me like you could have improved it a lot by changing the composition. Do you know the rule of thirds? Its really helpfull in setting up your composition. hellfish6 7 Posted February 15, 2006 I'm going overseas this spring. I have a digital camera but it sucks batteries like nothing. Since I'm going to be roughing it for three weeks in mountains and jungles, I don't want to carry dozens of batteries with me and then not be able to easily and safely dispose of them when they're gone. Can anyone recommend a cheap and simple film camera (not a disposable - I'd like to take lots of pics and enough of those little cameras can take up a lot of room)? Thanks
GoOB 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Personally I'd go for a used SLR instead of a compact. Simply because they can handle tougher enviroments, and that they most often don't use up alot of batteries, and the batteries they do use up are tiny and weigh next to nothing. Although they do cost their part... A NikonF2 should go for 200 bucks, and a CanonF1 for 130. And then another 50 for a used lens. But in my mind, definiatley worth it for a trip like that. Oh yeah, one good compact is the Olympus Stylus Epic QD. Takes great "everyday" pictures, and that for just above 600 SEK! Like, 80 dollars or something. EDIT: Great pics everyone! Especially killagees one of the kids running down the hill... Damn, I want summer so bad. -11 and snow just doesn't cut it.
earl 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Nice photo goob! Â I've been really lazy about photography lately, but I haven't really been out anywhere interesting. Here's a few from "winterlude" even though the weather here sucks and it's much like a proper winter at all. Â I'd love to have a dependable -11 and some of new york's snow. Â Instead it keeps rising above freezing and making a mess. http://www.baconbomb.com/photos/winterlude/01.jpg http://www.baconbomb.com/photos/winterlude/05.jpg Interestingly, the "eternal flame" in front of parliament was out, and the area smelled like raw natural gas, so I didn't stick around. earl 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Hellfish, I guess you will probably want a simple APS rather than an SLR, even with their exit from the current market a good film SLRs is still relatively expensive. Â You could get a clunker manual focus SLR for pretty cheap - the least battery dependent camera you can find, but manual focus and exposure settings means you could lose some nice chances to take a photo when speed counts. For a good compact film camera, have a look into the Canon Sure Shot series like 130, 150 or Z180. Get something with 3x zoom or better. Haven't used one, but it's hard to go wrong with canon, and you should be able to find one for pretty cheap these days. I wouldn't want to pay more than $50 US for one. MI_Fred 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Lovely tones Earl and Goob. If I'd have objects or subjects like that I could justify b&w... but even the snow on the 2nd up there would loose it's powderlike quality. I still haven't shot a single picture without power lines, grr.
