Real life photography/photo editing

I think, that I printed around 10 pictures onto a3 size  smile_o.gif

I myself was in your position a few weeks ago. I was about to get my first DSLR and I read review after review, read on forums, and asked friends who knew more about these things than I do.

The more I read, the more into Canon I got. This was probably influenced by a friend of mine who is a photographer and spoke very well of canon cams and lenses. I’m not saying that Canon is better than this or that, no, not at all. But I felt very comfortable with the idea of owning a Canon : )

The next question was what model to purchase. Since I'm pretty much a total newbie in photography I looked for the entry level models 350D and 400D.

The main differences being 8 vs 10 mega pixels, the automatic sensor cleaning, and a nine point auto focus. I could probably have lived without these improvements but after seeing some people that had the 350 actually discussing selling them and purchasing a 400d (don't ask me why) I said to my self that I might as well get it now. : )

I got the D400 with the 18-55 mm kit lens. Knowing nothing about lenses I had no idea what to think of it. But after reading up more info once again, and talking from own experience this is a price worthy lens as you wont find many better lenses in the same price class. So it’s good and does the trick when you learn all the functions of  the camera and such.

Eventually one will want more, and better lenses, with lower F-numbers, better macro capabilities and longer zoom range but save that for later ; )

Now if there's anything else you'd like to know about the 400D let me know smile_o.gif and here's an example photo I took with it the first day that I got the camera =)

Thank you SpeedyDonkey thumbs-up.gif

yeah I was wondering about that lens too but found out yesterday that it is good enough for the beginning.

You're right, the more you read reviews, the more you tend to canon, same for me wink_o.gif

I think it's kinda funny to say that the entry level models are 350D and 400D because they are just top notch. for me, they are professional models, but the starter models of the professional class and thats what I want.

Better lenses to later time is the right thing when you are a beginner to digital-slr-photography I think. I mean, you need time with your camera to get to know how "she" handles and stuff.

I have no worries anymore that the canon eos 400d could be the wrong model for me so I think I will get one next month smile_o.gif

honestly I cannot wait any longer...I want to run through the world and capture life.

That picture of you is quite awesome! nice for a test shot wink_o.gif

and again, thanks for your opinion.

You made my day, as I said, I have no more worries now about which camera to buy smile_o.gifthumbs-up.gif

Ah, I chose to put it like that to avoid getting slammed by some 30D, 5D or 1D user  tounge2.gif

"Starter models of the professional class" Is probably a better wording  smile_o.gif

Yeah, get 400D if you want to... I agree with SpeedyDonkey. If you can shoot with it, you ought to have little trouble getting the result... will still take a while (as I'm pretty much learning by shooting), though.

The 18-55mm lense is fairly good, offering zoom capabilities similar to a pocket cam (3x or 4x zoom). I'll be getting a 200-300mm lense in the near future though, for airshows. Took pics of the lunar eclipse through a telescope... without an adapter. crazy_o.gif

Gents, I'm making a so called vision board.

For this board I need large pictures (good quality to print it on a A4 or A5).

Where can I find a large quantity of free large photo's for download ?

Most large photo's (like stock photo's) come with a price.

I'm sure there must be some places where I can download it for free or almost free.

Any suggestions ?

Monk.

strangly enough when I was traveling around the South Island, NZ we stopped off at this camp site - can't recall exactly where it was, think it may have been near the Fox Glacier - and there was a this group of very very friendly ducks that would come and sit at the entrance of your tent trying to beg for some food - used to follow us around the camp site.

not as close as I got to a Kea - the thing started to try and disassemble my camera while I took photo's of it - this was pre digital age and i cant for the life of me find where i dumped the photos.

Took a pic with me old pocket cam so close that it's a tad blurry because the camera could focus any closer. Also had squirrels running up my jeans. biggrin_o.gif

Not really, maybe a little for composition, but you can get really close to these animals. Abit of toast in your hand and these ducks will let you do anything smile_o.gif

Cheers! I set up my little soft box in the room downstairs today. Not so sure if I find it much use... Usually end up getting rid of it and using my reflectors (black, white, gold or silver) as backdrops instead...

Cockroaches are also quite disgusting close up.

Another tip is to be very calm, don't make any sudden moves... I've sometimes spent about 30 secs to move 1-2 metres to get close to an animal. Naturally, having something for them to eat works quite well (almost too well tounge2.gif), but i.e. my photos were achieved without any... "distraction". Natural interest took over, prolly since they're quite used to getting fed, so they thought I had something, too.
