Guys. now I want a camera too! Beside I need one for my trip to italy this summer so I want to get 1. my budget is quite limited and I want to get the camera best value/quality smile_o.gif

I ran into the samsung digimax 420, and the review that I read online are pretty good. What I like about it is that it takes only 2 AA batteries, and it is supposed to be smaller. Does any1 have experience with this camera? do you guys think it is a good deal for 370 Canadian?

I also saw the Casio QV-R40 4.0MP Digital Camera and it seems to be a good camera for around 350 canadian.

And last I saw the Canon® PowerShot S30. The only thing that I dont like too much about this camera is that it uses cf slot, but I could live with it. Does any1 know how it does compare in comparison to the a70?

thx guys

Here's the first shot from the SmartCard I was on about earlier. A picture that looked like it was a failiure but turned into something quite nice. It's from a train, crossing the polar circle.

Wow, that first one of Phillip Dadson performing was marvellous! Really artistic.

EDIT: One more picture. Kept small on purpose smile_o.gif

EDIT2: Added "feature"  tounge_o.gif   biggrin_o.gif

I bought this one earlier this year. ~160$ and it has some optical zoom (not much (3x) but you don't want one with only digital zoom). It's pretty nice.

I've noticed though that when I take pics in 2nd best or best quality (** or *** in camera settings), the pics turn out kinda grainy, but the resolution is then 1600x1200, and the grain is gone if you resize them a bit.

Just 2 AA batteries and quite small, but use the LCD screen too much and you run out of batteries pretty fast. But np, just one button to turn the screen on and off.

It's worth to have a look at anyway.

I have only had joy with Samsung cameras, but I haven't used the specific one your'e talking about.

For a few of my pictures I have been using the Minolta Dimage X20. which so far has been pretty good, 3x optical zoom (could do with a bit more) I haven't tried all the different resolutions but the medium one is working out fine. I'll see if I can find a picture I have taken with it. The best thing about it in my opinion is that you can capture very long video sequences with sound. Very well suited for times when you need to have your backpack filled with other things than cameras I might add.

I got it for 1526 Swedish crowns, which is about 263 $ Canadian.

thx guys! And awesome pics too. I ended up getting the caasio qrv 40. It seems to be good. THe only question I have is what resolution should I take the pics at for best result if I was going to have them printed in the standard small picture format (sorry for my ignorance I dont know haha) anyways Ill start posting my pics once i figure out how to use it

Take them in max resolution (if you want to waste the memory space on it, maybe you prefer taking more pics in lower quality) and just shrink it so that it fits the way you want it. I have no idea how to print photos though ... You should use thick paper.

When I got my camera I was given a card with these recommendations:

Size          Minimum Pixels          Recommended

Wallets     240x360                    625x875

4x6          480x640                    1000x1500

5x7          600x840                    1250x1750

8x10        960x1200                  1600x2000

11x14      1320x1680                 2200x2800

12x18      1440x2048                 2400x3600

I haven't gotten anything printed yet but I just leave it at my camera's highest setting (2560x1920) so that I get the best quality pics all the time. You can make small prints from the higher resolutions, and they'll likely look better than small prints from lower res pictures. In short, for best results, just crank up the pixels smile_o.gif.

I usually have it on medium setting, I fail to remember what resolution that is though. But I usually take alot of pictures of the same thing/area and I only have 128mb cards so the highest settings on my cameras are not too good to use for me. But sometimes when I am confident of my hand keeping steady I use the highest resolution.
