Tovarish 0 Posted February 29, 2004 Just dug these out and thought they'd be relevant, the first cameras I ever used: My 6th Birthday present: A Lomo "Smena" (Symbol). The shutter is broken, I think some day when I have time I'll open it up and take a look, see if I can fix it. You don't see this written on many things anymore: My mom's old Camera, A "Chaika" (Seagull) II: Still works

Tovarish 0 Posted February 29, 2004 I knew you were a spy, but now you go and show proof!   (cool stuff, take care of it) I brought them back from Cuba in '98 when I visited my family. You should have seen the Customs lady looking them over. I might as well have brought back a dissasembled Ak-47. That and the home-made coconut candies my grandma packed for me. She was smelling the packages like they might be drugs Quote[/b] ]Attn.: SumaSubj.: You got pictures for OFP2 objects. That'd be pretty cool Quote[/b] ]Chaika...wasn't there a Soviet car named like that? Yep, other Chaikas: Quote[/b] ]wonder if there are any incriminating photo of Tov in his mom's camera, like picking his nose or eating glues.....oh wait....did i say too much? Nah, the evidence has been destroyed . But if you really want I could accomodate you as soon as I get home and plug in my digital camera  Quote[/b] ]Hm....that looks very much like a russian copy of the old Kodak Instamatic Eh? You really think so?? The only thing that looks remotely alike at all is the position of the viewfinder and that they're both rectangular. Don't believe me, i'll take more shots from other angles later
killagee 0 Posted March 1, 2004 The first signs of the cyclone that swept past New Zealand during the weekend... Shot from my front lawn. The 'Eagle' Police Helicopter setting off to co-ordinate the arrest of the offending weather... A small break in the weather was the perfect excuse for me to jump out of an aeroplane... Crikey there are some good pics in this thread! I reccomend going back to the start and viewing all the pages again. There are some great images contained within Edit. Not sure where the funny lines in the above pics came from...
brgnorway 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Hm.......I still think it resembles the Instamatic. I could be wrong of course but didn't the old soviet use to copy a lot of things from the west?
Tovarish 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Hm.......I still think it resembles the Instamatic. I could be wrong of course but didn't the old soviet use to copy a lot of things from the west? Spying went on from both sides yes, but for the most part that's a misconception that irritates me. You think the KGB had nothing better to do than spy on Kodak? Come on man, the USSR put the first satellite up in space as well as the first man. They had the know how to design their own cheap civilian cameras! As for this specifically, the shutter controls are in totally different places, and from what I can see the way you wind the film is completely different too. That and it dosen't look like the lens on the Instamatic is removeable. Like I said before, both rectangular, both have the viewfinder in roughly the same place (and you can't even call the viewfinders themselves similar), and there the similarities end  *edit* The model of Instamatic you posted above is a 1968 model: Kodak Instamatic 33 And the Chaika II is a 1967 model: Chaika II and the Chaika I is fom 1965 (the biggest difference between the I and II is the lens mount on the II): Chaika I
brgnorway 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Quote[/b] ]You think the KGB had nothing better to do than spy on Kodak? ......No - because it wouldn't be the first time: and another Leica copy I'm sure you are right that it's no Instamatic.
Tovarish 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Forgot about the 1920's-1930's Leica copies, but surely you understand that after the industralization that took place in WWII, they could design their own cameras? .
brgnorway 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Forgot about the 1920's-1930's Leica copies, but surely you understand that after the industralization that took place in WWII, they could design their own cameras? Â . The Zorki camera in the picture was in production from 1972 to 1978. Of course they could concentrate on making their own high precision cameras. It's just so much more cost effective to copy a winning formula. There's nothing wrong with that and I have no doubt's about soviet technology. They've made a lot of achievements and often used common sense to good use. A perfect example would be fighters electronics based around the use of vacum/radio tubes in fighterplanes as this would stand a much better chance of surviving an atomic blast. Actually, the russian Svetlana tubes are considered to be among the best in the world and many manufacturers of high end stereo/mono amplifiers prefer these tubes

Thud_and_Blunder 0 Posted March 2, 2004 One from my last tour in the military. I was on loan to the Royal Brunei Air Force (or Angkatan Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei, if you prefer the Malay version) as an instructor. The Bruneians are strong on ceremonial and not much else, so we used to spend more time than is strictly necessary practising formation in our 212s. I sacked the pilot of no. 3 for not having his main rotor aligned with the others...
killagee 0 Posted March 2, 2004 Great photo Thub_and_Blunder. No.3's tail rotor is also out of sync. I reccomend dishonarable discharge...
Harnu 0 Posted March 3, 2004 Stormfront coming over my house Airplane overhead I'll see if I can get a picture of a blackhawk next time it flies over my house, but it's usually late at night when they are close enough, and then it's just blurry lights

iNeo 0 Posted March 3, 2004 ah f*ck Was watching tv when I realized I had been hearing a helicopter outside for several minutes, so I looked out the window... There was a police helicopter circling my block, and two police cars with blue-lights and search light strafing around the block. I picked my digital cam but it was out of batteries. I let it charge for a minute or two then I tried to take some pics, charge a min, take pics. Didn't know how long they were gonna stay so I wanted to make sure I at least got a few pics. Could only take 5 anyway, and they all turned out crap. The 'police van force' (Piketstyrkan), Sweden's 2nd best police force after the special police force (nationella insatsstyrkan), was there too, and it would've made awesome pictures when they passed the street 30-40 m outside my window, not to mention the police helicopter flying right over my house on very low altitude, but I didn't have any batteries. Here's a picture I took, of course when the helicopter is furter away They all turned out this bad or worse. The white thing is a flag pole. But it was cool anyway. Wonder whom they were after.
