-=anders=- 0 Posted December 6, 2003 Since I changed GFX card from my Ti4400 to my new 9800PRO I felt like I were having lower fps than I had with my Ti4400. Well It doesn't seem that I have 30fps but it doesn't feel all the same smooth like I were having with my Ti4400. So I started to wonder what could be wrong and maybe there was some kind of ATI fix for the smooth fps. And I won't give up cause if I've spent much money on a good GFX card I wan't THIS to be BETTER than my old card ffs! I have done a totally fresh install of OFP including latest patches and so on. All my other games works great, to mention Max Payne2, H&D2, Raven Shield etc. So don't you think it's kinda weird ehn I have 6880points in CPU benchmark and the GFX feel choppy. I want at least 100fps when standing blank in Desert Island with nothing more than a soldier himself. So all you 9800pro guys, give me some clues on what could be done, OK? toadlife 3 Posted December 7, 2003 Frame rate in OFP seems to be more about your processor/memory bandwidth than your video card. A good video card helps, but a faster processor/memory bandwidth helps more. What are your complete specs, and what settings are you using? Edit: Oh I see that you said you have a 6880 benchmark. That indicates that you have a fast processor. You can ignore my first remark, but I'm still interested in the settings you are trying to use.
MrZig 0 Posted December 7, 2003 Radeons don't suck, ESPECIALLY a 9800 Pro, dunno what your problem is though, maybe it's the drivers? Or your preferences were set too high?

-=anders=- 0 Posted December 7, 2003 Hmm... Well this is fucking weird, but listen: It all went smooth after turning on more programs like irc and icq. And when I only started OFP it wnet back to the choppy feeling again. Seems like the memory wants more to deal with. I'm I right? Gonna check it out and comfirm... toadeater 0 Posted December 7, 2003 I aint changing my ti4200 128mg, you guys tell me what is the best DX9 card regarding reliability, performance and price , yep it is wiser to wait... I was going to get a Radeon, but after hearing about all the problems with those cards (here, hardware forums, usenet, etc), I got a Chaintech Geforce FX 5900 non-ultra w/ video-in for $240. It's now overclocked to Ultra speeds and has not had any compatibility problems or excess heat. Radeons might be faster in some ways, and they do have slightly better visual quality, but I think Nvidia's driver stability make up for the speed difference. This is not to bash ATI users, if you got your card to work flawlessly, then that's great, I just didn't want to take the risk of getting a $200 dud. So hopefully this will help you decide in some small way what card to get?

shinRaiden 0 Posted December 8, 2003 The Audigy 2 Platinum will hit your CPU. Try the soundstorm on the motherboard, it's even better. I have the same mobo and sound card. I use the Soundstorm as the primary audio card, and enable digital out (But NOT Dolby Digital - it loses sync). Then I have a SPDIF (ie RCA) cable linking to the Platinum's front box. From there I spit out a nice pair of stereo headphones, or use my Zalman 5.1 headphones in the analog Soundstorm ports. The key to this is that all the Audigy 2 effects need to be disabled. To be honest, I bought the Audigy 2 only for the digital ports for my MD. I presume that your memory is 2x 512mb sticks. Did you place them in seperate channels? Also you may have a garbled windows swapfile. Confused lots of memory is worse than clean little memory. A defrag could help too. We do need the 2 cfg's to look at, also a report of the specific advanced video settings, such as AA/AS and mipmapping specificly. Thank you.

KK! - I'm running 2x512MB in Dual Channel (The two blue slots...) - I really don't think by changing to the Soundstorm would increase performance that much, so I will stick to my Audigy2 in any case cause every other game I have works great with it. - I'm using the latest Cat. 3.9(10) with mipmap levels set at highest on both Direct3D and OpenGL. Truform is OFF V-Sync always ON AF and AA is OFF - What do you mean with "Also you may have a garbled windows swapfile"? Anything I could change? I think I have WindowsXP to deal with that fro me. Is that stupied? THen Plz tell me what is should be... - What cfg's do you need? User and...? Must ask what is "W-buffer"?
