Renagade 0 Posted July 23, 2003 Camo would seem easy enough if u could make material that worked like a tft screen. /me bangs head off table,if  only i had money for patents and  a small research lab i`d of built t-800s by  now   If that thing has radar built in,whats to stop the development of a smalll homing missile, maybe one t hat could fire from the OICW
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 23, 2003 Wasnt there a series in the 80ies about a guy in a black dress on a black motorbike. Well I guess they got inspired by that. If a soldier has wear such silly BS in the future than I think many nature loving german soldiers will resign!
FatNinjaKid 0 Posted July 23, 2003 $33ker @ July 23 2003,17:53)]the german comment was about the relation of generations of americans to their GI Joe toys. Iraq war boosts the sales and collectors buy all of it. the army has a coorporation with Mattel. the army shows them the current gear and mattel shows them the future gear. yeah, thats more to the point. I was only looking out for that gear. Â I didn't really care to listen to that stuff again Sorry guys. Â
ACES_KEVIN 0 Posted July 23, 2003 them soldiers lookin seriously badass :P Kev
Blitzkri3ger 0 Posted July 23, 2003 Yeah and the typical GI is supposed to be a rocketscientist then? I mean, relying just on airburstrounds, GPS, IFF and stuff but not being able to read a map and shooting everything that does NOT *ping* back is going to screw things up imo. Bucket of water should do the job for *rebelscum*. <--joke, i know they gonna be waterproof.
Milkman 1 Posted July 23, 2003 I saw this in an artical in Popular Science a year or two ago. I don't think anything like this will replace modern day soldiers for atlease twenty years. But I could be wrong... On the topic about camo: Who needs it? They are developing chemicals that mirror the environment around them, these units will probably have a finished form of it, like Predator.
Renagade 0 Posted July 23, 2003 It wont be long before we have real world versions of doom and phobos all we need now is a handheld rocket launcher like the smaw but the size of OICW DOOM PHOBOS I wonder why they haven`t made a body shell made out of the same stuff they make battle helmets out of or even powered exoskeletons. mr. Duck 0 Posted July 23, 2003 Quote[/b] ]I wonder why they haven`t made a body shell made out of the same stuff they make battle  helmets out of or even powered  exoskeletons. I've read that they're busy on the exo-skeleton stuff (DARPA is busy), the only problem for them is the power generator (that's what I've read, but that was a while ago). It appeared to expose too much heat (not for the soldiers though) so that the soldiers would be clearly visible on thermal imaging. The battery stuff is a problem too. No battery that last long enough. They could use a mini-nuclear fusion/fission battery but that wouldn't be very smart... Dudes, I swear, if we could play with this stuff already in Ofp...   (XM-8, future invisible soldiers, FCS etc, etc,)   On the body armour stuff, the article "mum" provided said something about some liquid armor. It becomes solid when something fast impacts it or something... It has something to do with nanotechnology... Too complicated to explain (not that I actually can explain )

mr. Duck 0 Posted July 24, 2003 heck...with such technology.. soldiers dont need aim training. Â something tells me aimbots will be for real life. Â Have I ever told you guys about the guided bullet? And yes, they are developing that too (don't know who anymore). Oh wait, you still need to aim for this... With a laser though...

The Frenchman 0 Posted July 24, 2003 I HATE all these new forms of battlefield technology. You dont need them and the money used to pay crackpot scientists for ideas that never work could go to pay for more useful things. The US dosent need the F22 nor the land warrior system. Â I'm agreeing with a Frenchman! *GASP* I think the F22 is a bit too much. But having a few in our arsenal couldn't hurt... except the pocket book. The landwarrior system IMO seems like it's just plain not gonna work. Splitting a soldiers vision between the battlefield and a computer screen... Perhaps it is really a good idea, but it seems far too technical to me. But then again I was raised in the 'gimme my M16 and I'll take care of it' type of motto

Tex -USMC- 0 Posted July 24, 2003 So what is all this going to cost? Sure they can be futuristic asskicking ninjitsu supersoldiers, but if it's so expensive that we can't field more than a battalion of the buggers, what's the point? We're already seeing the acute problems caused by an insufficient number of boots on the ground in Iraq, and there we've got over a hundred thousand troops as it is. Unless they can find an affordable way to mass produce all this stuff, I think we'll be seeing very little change in the way that the average line-doggie fights in the future. USSoldier11B 0 Posted July 24, 2003 Quote[/b] ]Oh ya, great camo. No one will notice the huge red visor That's the very first thing I thought too. Sounds far-fetched and expensive. How about training better soldiers instead of making fancy fragile equipment?
