GoOB 0 Posted September 14, 2003 I just want to splip in a quick question. I am not sure if it fits the topic or not (nor do I know if theese questions have been answered) but I am wondering about moderator related stuff: A) How is a moderator chosen? (always wonderd about that) B) Is there a "boss moderator"? C) How long can a PR be? Is there a limit or can you give out ten year long PR's? D) And finally, what goes on in the moderator forums? Hot steamy love letters, or nasty "I wish I could ban everyone" threads?

(always wonderd about that) He has "The Gift." Quote[/b] ]B) Is there a "boss moderator"? Yes. Placebo. See this topic. Quote[/b] ]C) How long can a PR be? Is there a limit or can you give out ten year long PR's? No limit. So if you ever get a PR, make sure we don't forget about you. Quote[/b] ]D) And finally, what goes on in the moderator forums? Hot steamy love letters, or nasty "I wish I could ban everyone" threads? We mostly talk about how Placebo shaves his legs. Or Ralph and Shadow arguing about their stupid (yes, stupid) pistols. And we plot our takeover of the world.
Major Fubar 0 Posted September 15, 2003 C) How long can a PR be? Is there a limit or can you give out ten year long PR's? As Hellfish said above, there is no limit, but realistically, anything that would earn you more than 2 weeks will probably = permanent ban from these forums. D) And finally, what goes on in the moderator forums? Hot steamy love letters, or nasty "I wish I could ban everyone" threads? Mainly we swap recipes. waffendennis 0 Posted September 15, 2003 A "ban from thread" feature (if that is possible) would be much nicer. Take for instance the famed BAS discussion threads. Wich have been closed down due to nagging, mild flaming and BAS member requests. There is that option but it's a Hack so no oficial thing from Jarvis ( I think ) but if you download it and add it to the databse you have more baning options. PS: Hack is not the Hack/Warez thing but that's how they call addons for Forums so no Warez or other thing just a addon for Ikonboard. Edit: Or download IK 3.1.2 Here is Ikonboard home page Download here the Try and buy version Cheers
SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted September 15, 2003 I have a question. Would Comments such as "In my Pants" be considerd as an offensive phrase or just as an regular expression? In other words, could it be called flaming?

Badgerboy 0 Posted September 15, 2003 Seems all the mods are off down the pub! Why did Renegade get banned intially? I can't seem to find any dodgy posts from him. Silly bugger, I wonder what he did.
shadow 6 Posted September 15, 2003 A question about the BIS forum in generalJudging by the date of the first posts in the bottom of this page of this BIS Operation Flashpoint forum http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....how=255 I wonder for how long this game has been in development Ondrej wrote the first lines of code in '98 IIRC. Quote[/b] ]I dont think everybody is upgrading their system following the new videogame requirement , so there are chance that several people will continue to play the game or make mission editing and will have troubleshooting questions, as i doubt OFP2 will have the same system requirement as OFP (Resistance already need a very good system, if you want to use most of the best visual quality adition). For addon making , i think you are right , not lot of addon maker will continue to work on the first OFP , when OFP2 will be released. I think noone but BIS has supported a game as long as they already have done. We should be grateful for that There will always come a time when the developer has to stop support on one of their products. I think the norm is to do so when a sequel is out. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But let's not speculate on when BIS will give up OFP1. Only time will tell and it's BIS calling the ball here.

waffendennis 0 Posted September 20, 2003 Important: Ok My postcount is reduced from 960 till 850 and wy that? I dont know so any moderators who did it please give me a explaination wy you did that... And I'm not so happy on it what you guy's did. Removing 110 post's from me and dont give an Explain wy you did it.
Placebo 29 Posted September 20, 2003 Your post count was reduced for posting a pic over 100kb in the combat photography forum, when you're clearly aware of the rules. You also had an avatar over 100kb, I was going to PM the moderator who reduced your post count to tell him to reduce it further because of your avatar so you should count yourself lucky that I forgot to PM him. toadlife 3 Posted September 20, 2003 Not really a question, but a suggestion...remove the post count for people completely. IMO, having a post count only encourages unconstructive posts. When you have no post count to boost, there is less incentive to post mindless drivel on the end of an allready solved/finished threads. In over two years on this board, I've posted ~350 times, so I'm considered a little peon (one star) compared to the dudes who have around 5000 posts, but all (or the vast majority ) of my posts were on point and constructive. I'm one of those who thinks comparing post counts in on par with having a pissing contest in the middle of a hurricane. Just a thought.

Gollum1 0 Posted September 20, 2003 Yes, I think post counts are totally unnecessary. It´s just a pissing contest.

And I'm not so happy on it what you guy's did. Removing 110 post's from me and dont give an Explain wy you did it. I reduced your post count for exactly the same reason that Placebo gave - you posted an image over 100kb and I'm tired of giving people warnings about that. You've been around long enough to know the board rules. And I know that you knew very well why I gave you the post count reduction - because I edited it into your post, which you later deleted at 0213 on 20 Sept. The fact that you posted here at 0238 on the same day indicates to me that you know very well why you got a post count reduction and that posting here asking a question you know the answer to is dangerously close to spamming. The fact that you posted here at 0238 on the same day indicates to me that you know very well why you got a post count reduction and that posting here asking a question you know the answer to is dangerously close to spamming. Actually according to an earlier Mod's decision, editing a Mod's edit goes well beyond spamming. However, Avon then decided to edit my edit and publicly announced this. This is a clear violation of 1.3 and I PR'ed her for 48hrs, for violating both 1.3 and 2.6. Either waffendennis should consider himself lucky or Avon should consider herself unlucky. Major Fubar 0 Posted September 21, 2003 Absolutley not - welcome to bansville: population you! Â Please, this thread is for asking us general moderating questions, not for having a whine about previous infractions and enforcements... As for the idea of removing post counts entirely, I think that might actually be a somewhat good idea - but - I am very much against punishing the well behaved majority to get at the problematic minority. It's not my decision anyway, but the board owners. People are rightfully proud of their postcounts, and as long as they dont spam just to increase post count, there is no problem.
