Accents/languages

I think no matter where ofp2 is set there should be "voice sets" available, for example so we are not limited to american accents for british troop addons, or russian lingo with the argentine troops, of cause this isnt just for british or agentine addons but all new troop addons that are produced, certainly a wide range of different accents/languages would be a most welcome addition

To round out this idea, it would be nice to allow for custom language addons.

This would include full replacements for all the standard sound clips used in official OFP2 missions.

This way, let's say, if there's a standard voice file for "go, go, go", a mission maker could refer to the same clip file name but specify some new LanguageModWEST/EAST/RESISTANCE statement for within the MISSION.SQM file.

LOL. But as long as we had subtitles, we shouldn't have a problem. Case in point: Battle over Hokkaido's mod. I'd love to have voice files for those Japanese units in their own language.

That dont matter, how many people know russian? or on the otherside of the coin how many know english? its having the choice thats important

well, I think it should be unable....but I guess BIS did not think of it since theyre was only US and Russian soldier at the start....but behing able to had like a French, Canadian, etc soldier addon and be able to make them theyre own voice would be nice

But if everyone speaks with their natural accent then noone will be able to understand them.  I could not stand having to explain myself to everyone so that they understand what I am talking about.

Its always good to have more options.

And plz make like in OFP1 a european version. But plz dont make the americans speak german in the german selection ok? And if its possible plz let the vietcong speak their language (dont know what is there language biggrin.gif )

i would like to hear both side speak their native lauguages(with english subtitle biggrin.gif )  in ofp2,  not just english with strange accent tounge.gif

Good idea!

I remember in the early OFP days the radio system was one of the most criticised parts of OFP.

Together with the subtitles option  this would be a nice way to learn some words in other languages!

Speaking of radio, if we're in 1970s Vietnam, wouldn't it be better to just shout or whisper orders in the jungle (Depending on Stealth/Aware status)? Not every order was conducted via the radio, you know. Especially when you have to keep in contact with base camp via a radioman, wearing a bulky radio 'backpack'. I'd prefer some decent spoken orders (with subtitles) if you're fighting in the jungle.

I already posted my concern bout this issue in another thread, it would be great to have vietnamese, russian and other voices with subtitles, would really add to the realism and immersion of the game smile.gif .

Talking of subtitles use the sub one at the bottom, not that huge thing that blankets out half the screen.

Also make them a more clear font and have an option of changing their colour

I think that they should be made as movie subtitles, the text can have background, and there should be options to change the collour of both the background and the text... (and the abillity to have the background transparent)

And it should as everything else be an option... wink.gif

I would love the Idea of regional accents in the game. Like a Texan accent, y'all.  smile.gif  Although some of the folks in OFP seem to already have an accent.

This thread has lost touch with reality.

Installing an engine that can take a sound file and convert it to any accent you want is just not going to happen.

What would be useful is for BIS to introduce the ability to easily install mods that allow local language voice files to substitute the default set that OFP comes with.

This would serve 2 functions:

1. Local players could set East, West and/or Resistance sides to use different VOICE PBO files, for example.

2. Missions with country specific addons could require the install of that country's VOICE PBO mod file.

A Crocidile Dundy voice mod? Why not! biggrin.gif
