Favorite military mottos

Recommended Posts

These can be from anywhere. Have to tell us who uses it and what it means.

Here is 2 of my favorites:

Currahee- We stand alone together.(from Easy company 506th paratroopers)

De Opresso Liberio (sp?)- Means to opress the depress. I might be wrong though.

biggrin.gif An educated guess really since I'm relying on Spanish to translate the Latin, but I'd bet my left arm that means "To Liberate from Oppression"

It's spelled "Oppresso" and "De Oppresso Liber" means "We Liberate the Oppressed".

"I'll bet you could suck a golf ball through a garden hose!" Gunny Sgt. from Full Metal Jacket (I forget his character's name, but he is R. Lee Ermey).

"We don't die, we just go to hell to regroup." - I forget, don't think it's official, but it was on a patch or a T-shirt somewhere.

I've seen that on a T-shirt somewhere, I think the full thing was "Mercenaries don't die, they just go to hell to re-group".

Or something like that. smile.gif

‘Qua Patet Orbis’

It's the motto of the Dutch marine corps, what it means is, ehm... Something like go anywhere (have a difficult time translating that).

Not one of my favorites but one that is all over the Capitol of Texas here:

The Mexican Army had loaned a large cannon to Texas at one point...just before war broke out the Mexican Army demanded the cannon back. Texas said "No" and one of the major battle falgs of the conflict had a picture of a cannon with the words "Come and Get It" on it. Texas has been like that ever since....

Then there is the famous one (saw it on a tee shirt):

"Kill em all, let God sort em out"

Not a motto but what the hell....

Pvt Lenard Lawrence: "Sir, I'm not...lying to you."

Drill Instrutor Gerheim: "YOU? YOU?  Did you say YOU?  Do you know what a  ewe is?  A  ewe is a female sheep.  A  female sheep is for fucking!  Why do you want to fuck your drill instructor???"

Not in the movie, but in the book Short Timers that FMJ is based on. Read here for the whole differnt script to FMJ if you haven't already

If you run, you will only die tired.
