It really irks me that in these packs you insist on using the retextured FIA AAF (I stand corrected) fatigues over and over again when irl, most if not all modern SF units you've included, use Crye style uniforms with the slanted blanking patches etc that only some (mostly yanks) are equipped with. Any reason for this? Not ally enough for me I'm afraid :dontgetit:.

The majority of the actual SF groups are using custom Crye Generation 3 uniforms in various camo patterns, NOT retextures. Some are using Massif/AAF type fatigues but they are usually pre-2010, or non-US groups.

The FIA type uniforms are only used by the OPFOR groups I have made or the older/ less well funded units who don't have access to Crye equipment at the time they are set, like the regulars of the Afghan National Army. The reason you are seeing lots of FIA uniforms is because I've been making a lot of OPFOR/INDEP groups recently.

Factions wearing Crye Gen3 uniforms-

US Navy SEALS

Air Force Pararescue/ PJ's

Polish GROM

MARSOC Marine Raiders

British SAS

Afghan National Army 2nd Commandos (small amounts)

CAG/ 'Delta Force'

75th Ranger Regiment (limited amounts IRL, used as standard ingame)

Crye Generation 2-

PLA SF (admittedly semi-fictional, as photos of Chinese SF that aren't promotional are very hard to get)

Kenyan Army Special Forces Group

I'm referring to the screenshots posted personally by yourself, such as the UKSF images.

Oh, the British? Yes, they are wearing non-G3's as the photos I was using for a base were from around 2008-2011 and I didn't see many G3's used in those photos.

If you know SAS were wearing G3's at that time and can provide photos I can easily change them in the next update, just say so.

The FIA type uniform you see there is used for only for the SBS soldiers (brown tee) and is a temporary stand-in and will be replaced by Gen2's or Gen3's in a future update, it's just a placeholder so I have the unit class within the faction for when it is updated.

The reason I am using the FIA fatigue for the SBS soldiers is because the photos I were going off were from a 2013 deployment to a mountainous region of Afghanistan, and in the photos I had the SBS weren't even in uniforms, but civilian/mixed dress, and I tried to copy that to give the SBS a distinct look compared to the normal SAS, who are in uniform.

The AAF type uniform used by most of the faction (there is mostly AAF type, with a few G3's) is used as a 'normal' uniform for them right now, not the overtly FIA/ guerrilla gear, as I've been using the Massif type uniforms for 'standard', non Crye uniforms in factions.

Ok, look. I made a mistake. I will fix the uniforms in the next update for the SAS, but can you tone down the aggressive attitude a bit please?

Not being aggressive at all imo.

Do you have that 2008 reference picture you mentioned? I have a few from 2008 seen below.

Hey man, I get that you want to encourage him to improve his mod and all that, but I'd suggest if you aren't happy with how accurate or not the mod is, don't use it and just cook up your own loadouts in the virtual arsenal.

It was a simple correction.

Updated main page with more upcoming factions.

Right now I'm mostly doing SFF-R conversions while I wait for VSM to update adding in the material I need for factions like the SAS update and CIA SAD units. Also have Irish Army Rangers and Slovakian 5th SFG added to the main list.

Yep.

At this point, might be easier to say factions without RHS versions-

Anyone without AK's or AR's, like the German SOF, African SOF, MGS Praying Mantis PMC's (because of the SCAR's), Israeli's, Colombians.

Right now I'm unsure about HK41X factions like GROM, as there is not a large range of HK's to pick from in RHS, and also about the 'Overhaul's- Would people want some of those, such as FIA, Gendarme, and Syndikate done with a RHS version?

Also the Ranger's and other factions like the ODA which make more use of the SCAR-H will be on hold until either RHS releases their own SCAR-H rifle or VSM does, in which case it will likely be included in the faction mod (I got permission from Van for it to be included in some faction packs.)

Also not sure about offering a standalone, possibly improved, version of the Ghost's from my other mod, the Ghost Recon CROSSCOM- the big draw they have though is the HUD integration with the units, so not sure if there would be any interest in it without that, as it was basically why I made the mod (and resulting faction) in the first place.

I would, if expanded, add units based on the team of Ghosts from Wildlands now it's been released and also beef the unit numbers to match SFF's, as the current faction included in the CROSSCOM mod is rather limited to a simple Sentry-Fireteam-Squad.

Afghan National Army SFF-R (RHS Version) Released

Aah94BL.jpg

Commando's Night Vision googles- the ANA regulars instead have flashlights.

Special Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds the Afghan National Army (ANA) and the ANA 2nd Commando Battalion- 'Thunder'. The faction, both the ANA Army and the Commandos, are based on 2007 to 2010 photgraphs- for the Commandos that means pre-ANASOC time period.

Note this version is dependant on RHS Escalation. If you would prefer different dependancies there is a SMA version also available. They are not compatible with each other and cannot be enabled at the same time.

Historical Info-

Commando units were formed in the Afghan Army in early 2007, and perform similar roles to the US Army Rangers. They often serve alongside other allied SF units, who serve as commanders and advisors, or as support, for the ANA Army or Commando forces.

The Faction-

The Afghan National Army makes up the bulk of the infantry force of the faction- they wear an older style uniform in M81 Woodland camo with older flat OD vests and light headwear, with some helmets, and carry a mix of Kalashnikov rifles and AR pattern rifles like M16's and M4A1's, with the PKM being the primary infantry machinegun.
The ANA have no standard issue sidearm, so pistols vary from M1911's, M9's, Makarovs and some Commandos carry the Glock 17.

Specialist Elements-

The ANA 2nd Commando form the Special Forces element of the faction, and are equiped with much more modern gear, such as M4A1's and M249 SAW's as standard, with Crye Gen 3 Uniforms and custom plate carriers, Opscores, Night Vision googles and IR lasers. They also have more access to magnified optics, supressors and IR devices like strobes.

Supports-

The Army is supported by multiple Troop tranport or 50. Cal Technical's, with transport trucks and the M1117 Guardian MRAP donated from US forces also available.

The Afghan National Army are grouped as 'Infantry' units, and the Commandos are 'Special Forces'.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio, ACE3 and ALiVE support (faction name ANA ) The ANA are an INDEP faction.

Set ALiVE unit type to 'Infantry' to spawn ANA, and to 'S.F' to spawn Commando teams.

So, thinking I'll be doing the Russian Spetznaz forces as the next one to get a SFF-R version, with a caveat- I will be expanding the faction from SURPAT only forces from 2013-2015 to include 2016-2017 Russian special forces soldiers from the Syrian fighting, particularly around the Palmyra region from the 1st of January to early March. They will be additional units, not replacing the original SURPAT units.

What I wanted to ask was should the Russian forces be, as a way to match to the RHS regular Russian army, OPFOR side?

The original SFF Russians were INDEP, to make US/Russian alliances possible, as well as the option to fight groups like Hezbollah and other OPFOR groups I have made.

INDEP if you ask me....more adaptable to many scenarios..

Cheers..

Having the Russian SF on OPFOR would probably be for the best. It'd probably make Syria related scenarios a bit more easy to set up. The reason being a lot of other people like putting their insurgent/ISIS styled factions on Independent.

As for fictional styled factions you mentioned earlier, how how the PLR from Battlefield 3? Basically an Iranian styled faction that could use Arma 3 and RHS assets, like AK74's and T-90's. Only problem honestly would be that strange Iranian camo pattern, here's a link to the wiki page for them http://battlefield.wikia.com/wiki/People's_Liberation_and_Resistance

Those PLR look interesting, and might be doable as a CSAT replacement or something, leaving CSAT Pacific to be the PLA.

I might use the various AK-74's for infantry and use the KH-2002/Katiba for the SF.

Vehicles as a replacement pack would need to be vanilla though, but I could add more (like keep the T-100 so it remains campaign and scenario compatible but also offer a T-90 as an option for editor made missions)

Uniform looks a bit like a pale M81/ DPM narrow mix, not sure what I could use for it.

Some early WIP photos of the SSO Russian forces, based on photos from Syria.

The original photos these are based on can be found in the A3 Photography thread.

I decided on OPFOR for the faction side, instead of the non-RHS version's INDEP, so they match better with existing RHS Russian forces.

Photos and the full release will be soon (TM) but I've got the Spetznaz and SSO up for private testing now. Additions include, but are not limited to- larger selection of Vympel squads, and the entire new SSO forces, as well as new vehicles like the Mi-8, Mi-24,

Ka-52 (based on

 )

GAZ 'Tiger' based on-

C5xf06_WYAYN4Jq.jpg

and BMP-3 (Up-armored kit) as well as a T model tank to give them a bit more firepower on the ground.

I'll have some ingame photos to come.

Special Forces Faction that adds Russian 'Spetznaz' Forces, based on the Spetznaz 'Vympel' unit from 2012-2015 and the Spetznaz SSO from 2016-2017. It contains a range of ground and air forces, with vehicle supports.

Note this version is dependant on RHS Escalation. If you would prefer different dependancies there is a SMA version also available. They are not compatible with each other and cannot be enabled at the same time.

Historical Info-

The term 'Spetznaz' is a general catch-all that refers to all Soviet and Russian Special Forces groups. The faction is based on the Spetznaz SSO and the Spetznaz 'Vympel' units in particular.
'Vympel' Unit was formed under the command of the KGB, the Soviet intelligence forces, in 1981, and it operates internationally, outside Russia's borders. The Unit went on to fight in Afghanistan, Cuba, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Angola, Mozambique, Lebanon, as either direct combat units and a raiding force, intelligence gathering recon missions, or as military advisors in fighting against guerilla or insurgent movements.

The Faction-

Spetznaz Vympel forces in the faction are equipped with SURPAT camo, with AK-74M's as the primary rifle, with Eotech's, Kobra's and other optics. The VSS, PKP, AKS-74U and RPG-18 serve in specialist roles within the faction.
Spetznaz SSO are equipped in Multicam uniforms, with more access to Zenitco AK-74's and AK103's compared to the Vympel units, with SVD's, PKP's and RPG-26's in specialist roles. The standard sidearm is the MP443 'Grach' but some Glock 17's and Makarov PM's are also used in small numbers.

They are based on photographs and helmet camera footage of Spetznaz units from 2012 to early-2017. Unlike Western special forces groups this faction has a large amount of close range weapons largely with red dot sights and the VSS for silent elimation of guards and sentries, or assassinations.

Also includes a substantial amount of SSO Spetznaz soldiers, based on photographs and helmet camera footage from Mid-2016 to March, 2017, from the fighting in the Palmyria Offensive, Syria. The SSO are much more suited to desert fighting than the Vympel forces, and have slightly more access to more advanced equipment due to being based on photos that are several years newer.

Specialist Elements-

The Spetznaz 'Vympel' unit have small teams of Recon Forces with supressed carbines, VKSS's and a Ghille suited sniper team. They also have a gunship-transported squad for heavily armed assaults into enemy bases or compounds. Spetznaz SSO also have a sniper team, but due to the high temperature and more urbanised fighting they are engaged in in Syria they are not wearing ghille suits, and have body armor similar to regular soldiers. Standard sniper rifle is the Orsis T-5000, bolt action 338. Lapua Magnum rifle.

Supports-

A Hunter-Killer Mi-24 Hind Gunship team is available as heavy fire support, with 2 gunships operating in tandem to destroy ground targets. A T-80 BV and a BMP-3 (Up-armored kit) are also available as armored vehicles, with the GAZ (Tiger) being used as a lighter ground transport vehicle.

Static weapons like the KORD and AGS-30 grenade machineguns can be carried within the squads.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio and ALiVE support (faction name RUS ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system. Russian Spetznaz are an OPFOR faction.

Notes-

Next up is likely a Faction replacement for campaign. Would people prefer Syndikate to use pure vanilla gear or have some RHS items and weapons?
