Faction Overhauls and Special Operation Forces Factions

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the insight! NIArms AK are pretty nice, better than apex ones. Also, there are some poor dudes out there (like myself) that didn't bought apex.

Yeah- the ANA Army forces do have a bunch of non-Apex weapons in there- various M4's and such, while the Commandos have completely SMA weapons, no AK's- the AKM is still used by the commandos, even today, but only in certain situations- the M4A1 is standard issue. The AKM variants used by the modern (not within mod timeframe) commandos are heavily upgraded variants that I couldn't really do justice to without adding more mods for a weapon that would only be used by very few soldiers.

Also. The units spawn with default gear even if I try to change it in arsenal.

Faction Update logs for today/yesterday-

MARSOC-

Scout units now have camo facepaint as standard, and increased SCAR-H and M45A1 ammo.

All MARSOC units have Marine Raiders shoulder patches on their uniforms- Raiders have the full color patch, while Scouts have black, subdued variants.

Bug fixes.

75th Rangers/ PMC's-

Minor loadout fixes, increased amount of sidearms in faction.

Bug fixes.

Polish GROM-

All GROM forces now have European faces instead of American.

GROM units now have the polish flag and GROM logo on their uniforms.

Bug fixes.

Navy SEALS-

Added Air Force Pararescue units to the SEALS as an airbourne medical support element- they have superior medical training/skill to the squad intergrated SARC medics.

Bug fixes.

ANA-

No changes since public release.

SAS/SBS/SASR are still in progress.

IMPORTANT- The 'Dynamic Recon Ops' scenarios now have all SFF factions working as OPFOR ONLY- they function perfectly fine as OPFOR units, but not as the player's side.

And I'm considering some OPFOR/ INDEP forces- What happened to the poll tab for the forums? I cant seem to find it anymore since the update.

Kurdistan Peshmerga-

Mostly armed with older NIA FN FAL rifles, with a few AK's in some support roles, with M81 camo and Tan kit/gear. Berets or various hats/bandanas, no helmets. Support would be ground vehicle based, no air support, but possibly an AAF Mora APC? INDEP faction.

Example photo-

Anti-Balaka "Movement'-

Central African movement, known for being incredibly violent to non-Christians, including body mutilation and torture- Would be equipped with a mix of civilian and guerrilla apparel, with lighter equipment. Primary weapon would be AKM's and AKS-74U's, with possibly some other weapons, like the Vietnam era M14 or similar older NATO weapons. Mostly infantry force, with maybe a few Technical in forest/jungle camo. May use some of the Apex Lizard camo uniforms for more elite units. OPFOR.

Example photo-

201402280905160646.jpg

South China Sea or Malacca Pirates-

I HAD to use this image, the jungle mag is too amazing. These would be similar in appearance to the African forces, but they would have small amounts of chinese weapons, like the QBZ or QBU-88, to make them different. No land vehicles apart from maybe a single troop transport technical, but a large array of boats. OPFOR.

Example photo-

Comment on your prefered of the 3 factions, and it will be the first one made.

SAS are still coming, adding the Australian SASR means it may take a bit longer than planned.

I will definitely have the faction complete by Australia Day (Jan 26th) so that should be the the last possible release date for the faction- I expect to have them done before then though.

I think what is desperately needed are OPFOR factions ( beside CSAT) that work with the A3 2035 setting vanilla game :). So Pirates, Thugs, Insurgents etc would be more than welcome.

Australian Special Air Service Regiment. (SASR) - Armed with F88 as a placeholder until the SMA F90 is completed.

It's fair call if you want the SASR to be distinguishable from other SF elements by giving it the F90, but if realism is your aim then you're better off giving them an AR derivative such as the Mk18 or similar. Neither SASR or 2 CDO use the Steyr.

An earlier poster was on the mark when he mentioned that a lot of SF look similar; Multicam, some sort of lightweight helmet, some sort of lightweight plate carrier and some sort of AR derivative is pretty much the order of the day among Western nations.

Yeah- that is exactly my problem right now- so many modern units look so similar that making them as an actual faction becomes kind of redundant- that's why I plan to give the SASR the F88/ F90 instead of the CQBR or M4A1's they would actually use more commonly- it gives them something to stand out from every other multicam using, Cyre wearing, SF force.

The SASR weren't really planned when I started the SAS/SBS faction, so I might cut them from the faction if I can't get a good realism/ distinct balance. I'm Australian myself, and in the Army everyone was talking up how amazing the F90 will be that I assumed the SASR might have use of it- I know some people who deployed in Jan-Feb most likely did have some F90's- Probably 2 CMDO, but I'm not certain who.

By comparison, the SAS are the 22nd SAS, mostly from from Mid-2014 to December 2016, Afghanistan deployment based, while the SBS are mostly from a June 2013 deployment to Afghanistan's more mountainous regions- the SAS are dressed more conventionally in Multicam (or bits of 'borrowed' US kit/uniform, which they have a reputation for) , while the SBS are dressed in more civilian garb- at the time the SBS were used for the more, say, 'questionable' British SF missions because they have a lower profile than the SAS.

I say 'mostly' because I generally base each faction on a series of photos within about 6 months or so, or a single deployment, whichever is longer, but I tend to end up with a few years of source photos (or helmet camera videos)  that I build the faction around. While this is happening I also am constantly talking with a few 'consultants'- ex or current military or SF of that nation (I spoke to a SEAL and my ODA friend did an exercise with various European groups, including GROM, and Roadrunner was in Afghanistan with the ANA) or other people who have met them, if I can about how I can portray the SF unit realistically within mod limitations (VSM, SMA, TF47, and NIA on occasion) - Making the units themselves I can honestly do in a few hours if I try, but the more accurate I try to get them they longer it can take-

The 75th Rangers for example were about 4 weeks of collecting and sorting source material, then about another 2 to build them, simply because of how many sources are out there- I even got a photo diary from a deployed Ranger in 2012, various Mk18's photographed in that are used by the Ranger units ingame- I'd had the Rangers in my unit/clan privately for a few months actually before they went public- all the units undergo at least a day to a week or so of private testing (Rangers were the first unit I made, and I never considered making them or the others public until I realised how much people actually wanted some non-CUP/ RHS faction mods) .

I hope this wall of text helped clarify some things.

British Special Air Service and Special Boat Service (SAS and SBS) Now available for download.

NFI5JzR.jpg

SBS operative with supressed CQBR, 2013.

Special Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds the British Special Air Service and Special Boat Service. It contains a range of both SAS and SBS units.

Historical Info-

The Special Air Service is the United Kingdom's most famous Special forces group, rising to worldwide acclaim after the 1980 Iranian Embassy Seige, which was the origins of the distinctive appearance of the SAS in fiction- Black suits, gas masks and MP5's. That was 40 years ago, and since then the SAS have changed considerably. The SBS are the British Navy's equivalent force, and a sister unit to the SAS.
Motto- "Who Dares Wins" (SAS) and "By Strength And Guile" (SBS)

The faction-

The Special Air Service in this mod are based on the 22nd SAS regiment, from mid 2014 to December 2016, Afghanistan deployment. The SBS are based on a June 2013 deployment to Afghanistans mountainous regions. The SAS are dressed in Multicam uniforms or 'borrowed' American equipment, which they are well known for doing, and are armed with M4A1's, CQBR's, "Maximi" 7.62 NATO Minimi's and HK417's.

Specialist Elements-

The SBS form a small recon element of the faction, and are dressed in more civlian or mixed camo gear and have compact suppressed weapons like the CQBR and PDW's- at the time the SBS were used for the more 'questionable' British SF missions because they have a lower profile than the SAS.

Supports-

The SAS/SBS are supported by vehicles such as ATV's, LSV's, Troop transport technicals, with air support from a Chinook mk6 and a Lynx light attack helicopter.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus. TFAR and ALiVE support (faction name SAS ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.

Fair enough if you want to give them the F90 to differentiate them from everyone else.

Regular infanteers will be picking up the F90 shortly, if they haven't already. The SF lads trialled them (as they often do for various bits of kit) but won't be adopting them.

I'm thinking SASR will be on hold for a while- right now I'll do some OPFOR/INDEP units so the various factions have forces to fight against- I posted a selection above-whichever gets more votes will be the first made.

Next faction-

Central African Rebels

Mostly based on the Anti-Balaka, meaning 'Anti-Machete'- as they were originally a collection of village defence forces and a resistance group against raiders and criminals, before overpowering them and being embroiled in the 2012-Today Central African Republic's 3-way civil war between Muslim Militias, the Anti-Balaka and Government forces.

The Anti-Balaka are an originally Christian movement, now universal, anti-Muslim group, and they have been known to torture, kill and cannibalise Muslim's living in Central Africa while high on drugs (according to a 2014 Amnesty International report.)

It might be worth noting that they have been known to multilate and then eat Muslim civilians, not just the 'Seleka' Muslim government soldiers.

As a militia organisation, they have no true uniform, but often wear necklace talismans in the belief it makes them invincible.

The Anti-Balaka are still currently fighting in Central Africa and international bodies claim in a few years no Muslims will be left alive in the Central African Republic. While the earlier leaders are known, the current 2016 leader of AB is unknown, but the influx of FACA ex-military forces have led to suspicions that it may be a former military officer.

They will be using various older and worn NIA Arms kalashnikov's, and will have mostly vanilla or apex uniforms.

The general militia forces will use anything they can get their hands on, from civilian, guerrilla, mixed camos, while there will be a more well trained veteran core, made up of deserters from the FACA (former government's Army before the Muslim takeover) who will have better equipment and weapons will vary, from the AKM, M14, AK-74, RPK to even shotguns.

The veteran core of the Anti-Balaka are formed from remnants of the CAR's (Central African Republic's) Military forces that rebelled against the current government- Ingame they will be wearing the Apex Lizard camo or bits and pieces of M81 woodland and will have better weapons than the AB Miltia forces. The veterans will be called the 'FACA', after the deposed Army, and the primary language of the faction will be French.

Motto- "The invincible"

Very early concept unit- RPK gunner.

hint- it's not in the poll.

It's also obscure as hell, this is the only decent photo I have of them since 2008.

Love your Ghost Recon mod and these factions. I really like the more unconventional units such as ANA, Iraqi SF and Peschmergas especially with the "current" crisis around the world.

Maybe SAA later?

Who are SAA? South African Recce's? The Central African Militia should be released soon, they should be a nice addition as I'd consider them 'unconventional' units- plus it gives the various factions some OPFOR to fight.

He means Syrian Arab Army

You should consider making Hezbollah or Hamas, as they both have unique weaponry and fight in small unit formations, making them fit in the scope of your included groups.

Also some cool south american factions for use on tanoa would be awesome. Maybe FARC?

Sure, I can do some OPFOR Middle Eastern units.

Hamas look more interesting than a Hezbollah Resistance Brigade, so they would be the most likely choice.

I've been wanted to do a South American SF group, narrowed it down to Colombia, Mexico or Brazil, so I may do a South American SF group around the same time as the FARC- they could be 2 mods used together if you wanted to have some SA missions.

FARC seem like a very well organised group, more comparable to a 3rd world Army (In infantry at least) so that would be rather easy to model- by comparison the Anti-Balakal have pretty much no organisation apart from the FACA units, they are basically roaming drugged up mobs, so it was a bit hard to get that across ingame.

@jarrad96 Yes, I meant Syrian Arab Army and Dragonfire is correct to add maybe some Hezbollah since they are actively engaging Al Nusra Front with Russian and SAA together. There aren't any really good mods to represent these anymore without some compatibility issues though I think Project Opfor is the last one that is working.

I would love to see some FARC but then we need to create the Colombian National Army to battle them.

Edit -- just saw Colombian Armed Forces mod on Steam Workshop so FARC AWAY:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=831775240

For Brazil, there are tons of mods already on steam but nothing for the Cartel unless we just use Apex's Syndikat OpFors.

Personally I would like to see SAA and Hezbollah to represent current forces after fleshing out CAM. There are also some South African SF units that needs updating that would make a wonderful addition.

I think if you focus on regions, it would easier to do just by matching up Blue and Opfor.
