Rappelling from Structures WIP

Recommended Posts

Jeza - great video!

Thanks to mcrupert we have some awesome looking animations in the works! Will make weapon switching work much better as well.

These addons will come packaged with the addon. If you're playing in SP they will be used by default. In MP, you will use the vanilla arma animations unless you also have the addon installed locally. The addon is still optional for for clients, but will look much better if you have it installed.

Also working on adding in some optional rappel sound as well. Both the models and sounds will also be added to the heli rappelling eventually.

Amazing work, definitely one of the coolest and most unique mods. Up there with the flay photography mod that sadly never came to release. :)

Brilliant mod.

EDIT:

As an afterthought, do you plan on being able to abseil of cliffs/rocks that are very heavily sloped, ie just off vertical,  which an infantryman would fall off, or not be able to walk down?

Yes, this is possible with this mod. I was rappelling down some Tanoa cliffs yesterday. Anything that's more than 4-5m high supports rappelling. Cargo cranes are fun too.

I really like how they swing in a believable fashion. Will we be able to rappel down all buildings?

Out of interest, how DO you code window entries?

It's not coded specific to windows. The physics of swinging from a rope are scripted and take into account edges of objects, so you don't swing into them. Windows are simply a hole in an object - if you jump away from the building, the simulated physics takes care of the rest. Once you swing inside, you just lower yourself on the rope till you auto-detach from the rope.

Yes - doesn't even have to be a building. Anything that's 4-5m high and has a drop off will work.

More good rope stuff Duda, well done

Idea on a fired grappling hook solution, non addon.

Addaction: Load grappling Hook (Sets a bool on the client)

Fired EH Tracks lets say something like a smoke shell round fired from a UGL and resets bool to false

When smoke shell velocity is [0,0,0], set anchor point of rope at smoke shell location then delete the smoke shell

and then allow a climb up animation on the rope

Something like that

Oh yeah, thank McRupert for those animations for me, if you see him. :)

As an afterthought, would rope bags be possible. Me and my friends are planning an urban assault on minihattan, and not having the ropes tip off the suspect would be a bonus, but only if it's easy to code.

Easy to code - however, you'd need a custom model/object for the rope bag. If someone wants to make one, I can add it in.

Adacas and I were thinking about making up some rappelling harnesses and rope bags in the near future for this.

Maybe setting a smoke 203 with a higher mass value so that you can fire it straight up and it will arc over an object at a decent height. Would have to google to find out what a realistic height is.

Cool, well if you make a harness or rope bag, it can easily be attached to the player. If we add it to the addon, I'd make it so that the bottom rope doesn't show when using the bag.

This one cool looking addon, it's a shame you can't retexture the rope, the steel cable is out of place on an otherwise awesome addon

!

I do a lot of rappelling myself, and while i use a climbing type setup, if we wanted to go with a realistic harness, it might be the Petzl AVAO BOD s.(though only for SWAT/police, as its heavy AF and recon wouldn't want to lug it round) If we wanted to enable climbing up, the BOD CROLL FAST comes with built in ascenders, and fancy buckles that enable you to don the harness with both feet on the ground, as it is the more tactical harness of the two, as the standard BOD is more for rope access workers. The military tend to use seat harnesses like this one for general military and urban rappelling, as it is more versatile and a lot lighter than the BOD. https://alstoys.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/para-45.jpg.

Yes it would be nice if Bohemia could add the ability to have multiple rope types... however I think it may be a physx limitation.

From what I understand the black diamond is fairly popular.
