Tonci87 163 Posted December 3, 2014 Well the setting is interesting, I have to give them that (well the french revolution could be very interesting too if they took advantage of it with a proper deep story). But considering that this will already be released next year I really can´t see them allocate enough ressources to patch their current clusterfuck and develop a brand new game until then. It will most likely be the same as Unity, with a different Map and different characters/story. The game mechanics will most likely not change as much as they IMHO need to. Also those screens have been heavily edited, don´t forget that.

I think they have like three studios developing AC just like Activision has for CoD so its not exactly making a game in one year. Despite that, what you said. Hold Shift to climb towers with nice graphics.
Tonci87 163 Posted December 3, 2014 It´s just too much, this series needs a break until they come up with new ideas.
katipo66 94 Posted December 3, 2014 Another crap "AAA" release, those screens remind me of Dishonoured, now that's a class act.
onlyrazor 11 Posted December 3, 2014 Another crap "AAA" release, those screens remind me of Dishonoured, now that's a class act. That's because Dishonored ripped off the Victorian aesthetic. Or maybe it just stole Thief's design. Anyway, criticising a game set in a real world location for looking like a game set somewhere inspired by said real world location isn't going to get us anywhere useful. Let's be grown men and criticise it for being a yearly release made on an exact design by committee template.
IndeedPete 1038 Posted December 3, 2014 Very interesting yet logical setting. Though I'm not sure how to feel about the series. This will most probably be another title I'll buy on steam sale for 5-15€, but I won't throw a full price at Ubischrott. Recently started with AC3, has been our for years(?) now and it's still buggy. I can only laugh about Unity's glitches and messed up voices (so I hear). It's actually really sad. They have resources, they have an interesting universe, they have cool gameplay elements - and they just suck at making a quality game from it. Not to mention the horrible, horrible UbiLauncher bullshit. I'm still hoping for an AC without the UbiLauncher, without in-game purchases, without internet-connection-crap, without stupid generic sidequests and pseudo-economics killing the whole atmosphere and with decent and deep main quests and a good plot. But when I hear that the Ubisoft CEO(?) wants to make a 60$ customer to a 200$ one I feel the need to throw up. It seems like the series has been commercialised up to a point where it's just fucking up the game behind it. Still hoping for Ubi to crash really badly, maybe they could use a reboot. Remembering good old Ubisoft games like Splinter Cell 1-3 or AC1. Same goes for EA.
jw custom 56 Posted December 3, 2014 I ignored the bad reviews and bought Unity mostly because i really enjoyed Black Flag and Unity's Paris setting looked stunning(and it is). I must say i'm already tired of Unity, not because of bugs but because it's so repetitive and nothing new is brought to the table. Unless Victory is getting great reviews i'm skipping it. Well sadly Ubisoft is also known for dropping their support of games before all the bugs are fixed. it is a common theme in their games. No long time support at all. The most glaring example that comes to my mind is Silent Hunter 5 (has never been fixed, only playable if using community patches).
negah 26 Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) The Victorian era seems a logical and an interesting choice indeed. Hope there will be some Sherlock Holmes inspired missions. And the introduction of the grappling hook (if you have played Tenchu on PS1 youll know what I mean) makes me want a Japanese setting even more, be it Sengoku or Meiji Restoration. In fact the latter one would even work with AC mechanics as there were cities in Japan by that time and not just villages and castles. But alas as long as I dont upgrade my PC ill pass on it just as with Unity, maybe wait till both are in a Humble Bundle (will never happen, I know). The most glaring example that comes to my mind is Silent Hunter 5 (has never been fixed, only playable if using community patches). The totally dumbed down gameplay was what killed Silent Hunter 5 for me. Walking around the submarine was nice... for about 2 minutes, but that was all SH5 had to offer. Regarding the marketing policies of the current games: we see that basically every company has embraced some sort of free-to-play ( = pay-to-win mostly, but I know people who invest money there) or DLC strategy. Why? Of course they want to make profit, but we also have to understand that the technologies are developing and the requirements are rising and so are the production costs rising. Since the price for the game hasnt changed (50-60€) over the years the developers and publishers are getting their money the other way. Ubisoft just seems to have overdone it with Unity. Tonci87 163 Posted December 5, 2014 You forget that digital distribution has allowed publishers to cut back on costs a lot. You should try SH5 with Sobers mega Mod totally awesome realistic experience.

nodunit 397 Posted December 5, 2014 Gotta hand it to the visual artists in these games, they make the settings look so gosh darn lovely, its a shame that all of the gorgeousness of Unity is going to be overlooked due to the bugs and performance issues. Unity's asset design makes the graphics whore in my salivate and Victory does the same.. That said, they should have waited to build the hype until after they fixed most of their big bugs...and hopefully don't repeat the same mistakes.
jw custom 56 Posted December 5, 2014 its a shame that all of the gorgeousness of Unity is going to be overlooked due to the bugs and performance issues. Even if you look past the bugs and performance issues Unity is still a big step backwards from previous titles, very boring and repetitive.

mistyronin 1181 Posted December 5, 2014 Its incredible how they could miss such an opportunity. They set the game during the French Revolution, a time full of intrigues, drama and political struggle. They cold have made the Assassins creed with the best story ever.... Specially having in mind that the company is French ( Ubisoft ). Even if you look past the bugs and performance issues Unity is still a big step backwards from previous titles, very boring and repetitive. IMO Unity took a few steps backwards, it's true; but I would not call it boring and repetitive. For my taste Black Flag took too many steps forward to the point I don't feel it like an AC game, and I don't really like it. The previous games where a mutation of AC2 which is fine, as IMO is the best of the series.
