Animal Idea

Recommended Posts

Say, wouldn't it be fantastic if some trees exploded with life when you approached them. A flock of birds taking flight? That way, if you were alone in a wooded area or forest, and you heard birds taking flight, you'd know you weren't alone. That would certainly create an atmosphere while being very realistic.

Apologies, I meant to post this as a reply in another thread (discussions and ideas).

Yeah - but it'd be great to actually see a flock of birds (native to a Greek island) taking flight! I used to do a lot of hunting, and it was always a giveaway of something.

And they must react for human, vechicle, etc. I mean, not only atmosphere but gameplay too.

But, it's looks like modification.

i like the idea. wildlife in previous arma titles has always been very static and somehow lifeless ;)

SLX/COSLX mod has this feature (slx_birds): player or AI occasionally startles a flock of birds out of nearby trees or cover. Very effective and immersive. I'm not sure if it works in Arma3 though.

I mentioned this in the dev patch thread a few days ago. Wild animals roaming the maps as standard would be pretty cool, such as goats/sheep in fields on on mountainsides that run away from humans and loud noises. Dogs in towns that bark when characters get too close or again, at loud noises. It would add a nice level of detail in which animal reactions could give away your position and affect how you go about a mission, especially if you're in PvP and trying to be sneaky.

They're some great ideas and I agree too - would really add to immersion. I just love the idea of startling birds in a forest and them taking flight. Friend or foe? Who's out there? etc.

Ha, yeah that sounds pretty cool.

I can just imagine a flock of birds flying off after firing a shot from a sniper rifle.

Yeah - that's sort of what I had in mind! Maybe less birds though, just a couple, springing up from the forest canopy! Awesome!

There ARE animals like birds, goats, dogs, rabbits etc. in ArmA 3 already...

They just haven't all been implemented/added yet...well besides the rabbits (and goats on Altis as shown in screenshots). ;)

*If you look at the change logs to BETA though you see they are slowly making there way into the game*

Yeah - which is fantastic - but we'd just love to see birds getting spooked and flying from trees...

You know, just seeing those birds fly around in an ARMA map, looks so natural. Makes me think, that a few birds flying around, would really add a lot to the immersion. I mean we already have the odd insect in our field of view.

There should be seagulls everywhere too!

seagulls everywhere

This happens only when a storm is raging. But they can be seen above the sea.

i am missing this kind of feel badly when standing and staring at the sea:

you can nearly smell the salt in the air and the salty sea water! <<--- NEED :)

and those characteristic creatures:=

---

maybe less crickets, the sound is going a bit on my nerves - if it wasnt the same as in previous armas or if it could differ a little bit ;) or be only in several areas:
