E3 2013 - General Thoughts

Recommended Posts

With the first day of conference from the major players almost over, what you think? (MS and EA ones are over; yet to come: Ubi, Sony and Nintendo)

The Witcher 3, Watchdogs, Titanfall, Mirror's Edge all seems pretty good.

BF4 MP segment was all staged and the SP part was even more boring, but I'm still curious about it.

EA Sports game look good but these you need to play to get the feel of the game.

But no matter what, MGS 5 already won the show for me!

Alot got me excited but I was really pumped to see star wars battlefront! Metal gear is also looking great as well

I have to agree! So far, MGS was the game able to arise the most interest. The previous demos were quite nice already but that sandbox element sounds very good! Let's see how it will actually play :) The commander mode in BF is a neat addition but the explosion-ridden campaign footage wasn't interesting at all... :/

Watchdogs and Mirror's Edge are on my radar as well though! While Mirrors Edge's rendered gameplay footage looked pretty much like the previous one with some new units, I'm sure there are some nice technical advancements.

Watchdogs still has to prove its true open world concept (to me).

I was looking forward to the BF4 MP demo but was disappointed by how staged it was. A bit of randomness etc. would make it more interesting. MGS5 looks great, the open world style will hopefully work well for MGS.

But I think we're all waiting on BIS to deliver the goods :D

The Crew trailer was awesome. The gameplay, not so much but isn't that bad. Would take that over any recent NFS (including the just announced) any day:

And at the end of Ubi's presentation they announced a new IP; Tom Clancy's "The Division". All next gen, consoles only, MMO (not sure), survival, squad thing. It surely looks good and it's from Massive, the creators of Ground Control and World in Conflict.

___________

Earlier this day, another one that I forgot: Dead Rising 3. It looks more serious than bonkers, which in this case isn't good. Look for the gameplay.

Wow that "Division" looks interesting! Thanks for posting Smurf! Absolutely love the authentic dialogues of the protagonists. Adds a great deal of realism as opposed to some heroic badass military babble

"Console only" on the other hand...

Though why are they calling the attackers at the end "players"? (I have absolutely no knowledge of that game, the trailer is the first I ever saw and heard)

You and everybody. I really don't know either, few details about the game so far.

The combat chatter isn't ingame but the people who are playing it. So.. yeah....

And another one that I forgot was Ryse! It was sooooo good until 3:10; Then it lost my attention.

_____________

BONUS!

It also seems to be inspired by DayZ when it comes to survival aspects :)

It's beautiful to see that DayZ has established this new survival genre and inspires new games!

Now we're the hipsters of the hipsters when it comes to that regard

Oh really? I was under the impression the characters were communicating through coms and the video portrays a true glimpse into this universe and doesn't seperate it by adding voices of people "playing" it while the real characters are silent. I could be wrong though!

Here's a story trailer I found

Lol guys it's an open world game the team we watched were players all though I'm pretty sure the police and civilians were ai. That's what I got from it all.

I mainly thought so because the dialogue felt very "triggered" :)

Though a scenario where people fight for survival in a sort of "real-life game", doesn't sound plausible after seeing the story trailer and that's a good thing!

Sony presentation is about to start.

---------- Post added at 23:26 ---------- Previous post was at 22:01 ----------

Best moment of Sony presentation so far is the PS4 freezing with AC4.

LOL!

---------- Post added at 00:14 ---------- Previous post was at 23:26 ----------

From the AC4 freezing the thing just got better (really). Wachtdogs gameplay was nice, Destiny too but the best part was M$ bashing. No protection over used games, no online checking thing, $399! All other infos, look for yourself :p

www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWSIFh8ICaA

lol

And the PS4 itself: http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/993003_618308811513147_148809561_n.jpg

Sony definately won the conference there towards the end with that special announcement, the whole crowd was smiling and I think that was the most thunderous applause during the whole stream.

On the other hand, they've finally made it "pay to play online" by PS4 requiring an active PlayStation Plus subscription... but with the promise that existing PS+ subscriptions will persist/apply to the PS4 and that such subscriptions are also valid for all three current PlayStation systems (PS3, PS4, PSV), while remaining at the existing price points (US$17.99 for three months, US$49.99 for twelve months). It's not automatically superior to Xbox in that they both require subscriptions to play, but at least Sony has definitely leveraged the anti-Microsoft backlash into positive PR and has managed to emphasize a view of PS+ as the superior subscription on value-added.

All I'll say re: BF4... I thought it was quite slick that the pistol had a rear sight consisting of a red circle that, combined with the front sight post's dot, were essentially iron sights mimicking a red dot sight reticle.

I think I am with you on that.

It will be my first console in years (I had the PS1) but I can not get myself to fix/upgrade/tweak my PC to be able to play games............these days, I use my PC for "serious" things ;)

[add on]

It would just be nice to start a game, play it till I am done and that it........without having to bother myself to check how to run it best. I have better things to do than tweaking.

Yeah that is no problem for most people I'm currently paying for Xbox Live and they don't give you free anything. Once my Xbox live runs out I'm done with Microsoft for good unless they do some serious policy changes and do something to make up for it also maybe even be priced at 399 aswell to compete better with PS4. PS+ looks to be well worth the 5 dollars per month cannot really say the same for Xbox Live, I got more value out of Live back in the days of COD4, Gears of war 1 then I do now. Friends have grown up and have a lot less time to play games.

I wish Sony would've given the PS VITA a price cut or at least price cut on the memory cards.

E3 2013 - battle of nextgen consoles buyers. Too much same of the same all over again just with better graphics and sfx. Finding innovative, new and fresh ideas is left for new gamedevs/publishers. All the others are holding on recreating or revamping stuff that was already there.... kinda similar like in the film business. Old wine in new skins. Rinse and repeat until no more profit can be made...

+1

MGS5 looks amazing, I want to see if they connect well the open world with the stealth mechanics, but i trust them, they are talented developers.

On the other way Dark souls is in my opinion the best action-RPG ever. Not enough words can make it justice. Just finish it! It seems that DS2 its going to maintain its philosophy.

From its official web http://www.darksoulsii.com/uk/about :

Dark Souls II brings the franchise’s renowned difficulty & gripping gameplay innovations to both single and multiplayer experiences.

Features:

Prepare to die... Again: Dare yourself to engage against intense gameplay in a vast world powered by an all new engine that leaps graphics, sound & fx forward like never before

A labyrinth of monsters & bosses: Immerse yourself into mind-bending environments filled with new twisted monsters and deadly bosses that could only come from the imagination of from software

Sensory assault: A wide range of threats will prey on human senses & phobias - auditory hallucinations, vertigo, acrophobia, etc.

Deeper and darker: more intricate customization options provide weapons and armor tailoring to player style

Evolved multiplayer:Updated multiplayer system enables improved online interaction to bring forward cooperative & competitive play

Go beyond death: Dark Souls II features fluid motion-capture animations, upgraded combat system, a vastly expanded suite of characters, deeper customization options, new weapons, armor abilities, and balanced player progression system

So awesome...
