VII.Racetrack -ITA-

Where is the recoil/laser trails?

Recommended Posts

Finally spent a bit of time on a server at night, and I have to agree. The current tracers were probably the worst part of the over-all visual effect in what was otherwise a beautiful firefight across a valley. I hope they're not what Bohemia intends for the final release.

Anyone remember the tracer in Arma1? Looks more like blaster from Star Wars than Tracers...

Green,Red,White,Yellow,Orange,Purple,Blue have all been used as colours in tracer rounds

Right. It seems that the "in game" tonality is too much red. Don't know how to explain.

But i agree with all the latest posts

I believe racetrack is saying that he believes the red of the tracers in-game is too saturated.

Check the ACE ball tracers, that's actually more like you see a tracer in real life, i.e. through your own eyes and not through a camera with a longer shutter time

Yes, to me as well these Arma 3 tracers look like laser beams. There isn't enough detail in them. They look like perfect laser beams that you see in Sci Fi. I can understand this isn't such a big deal and most people probably won't be bothered by it, but I wouldn't mind a mod that tries to get that detail right.

It's the other way around - laser beams look like tracers (on film). that's (probably) where the idea for the laser beam effect came from (for star wars etc).

I believe racetrack is saying that he believes the red of the tracers in-game is too saturated.

And I believe the OP made a silly post and is trying to cover it up.

If I'm wrong someone let me know, but shortening them would go a long way towards improving their appearance and it seems like it would be relatively easy to do. I'm just wondering if there's any "legitimate" reason for BIS to leave them as is, so if they do I can decide if it's because they want to appeal to Average Joe (who has never seen a tracer out side of the FPSRussia YouTube channel) over realism. ;)

Eh, at this point the original post is practically irrelevant. This has evolved in to a (mostly) constructive discussion of the current appearance of tracer rounds. Besides, you just repeated maturin but with far less detail and an shot at the OP tacked on.

You can believe what you want, but tracers looks unreal to me anyhow. I have never fired tracers but I saw they many time. They are like the video i posted.

If you are saying that in ArmA3 tracers are the same color of that video. I need to go to my eye doctor...

Could someone explain to me what it would be like on the receiving end of a tracer burst?

I mean, the person firing the tracer can see where the round hits, but does the person/vehicle/whatever that is getting fired upon see where the tracer rounds originate?

I have heard different explanations for this and I am still unsure.

Any info folks?

Cheers,

Mick. :)

Agree with OP that they're too uniform red. When watching footage, they appear almost like a flash of white light encased in red and sometimes even appear to slightly change hues. Also agree that shorter, thinner or orb-like with more of a 'hi-res' feel would help.

There are at least two type of tracers. Some burn at the right moment that they are fired, the other type burn with a few delay. The second type are made to keep the position hide while firing... This is all I know. And i'm not pretty sure about this.

Already discussed in Arma 2, as these are the exact same tracers.

The best tracers ever made IMO are the one of Blastcore mod, thin, bright and glowing just like IRL...

Btw, the FX are exactly the same of Arma 2, especially the shameful explosion, Blastcore did a fine job turning the game into something modern and realistic.

I can't wait for the mod to be ported.

Nothing is stopping someone from modding the tracer rounds. They are just p3d's.

Yeah, people seem to think tracers are only used in one way.

I am pretty sure Soviets during wwII used green tracers for example and if you pack a belt with only tracers then, yes, it will look like a laser show, but most tracer belts only have like the 5 round be a tracer.

Could someone explain to me what it would be like on the receiving end of a tracer burst?

Used allot of tracers in the military, but I have not been on the receiving end. However, what we where told was that you can only see a tracer from the side and back because of where the tracer burn is located. With high velocity ammo you would probably not see anything with slower types you might see something like a dot coming at you I presume.

I remember a wwII doc where a tank commander said looking at a 88mm shooting at him the warheads looked like a bowling ball coming at you in super speed because the shell speed was rather slow comparably the eye picked it up rather easy.

Maybe ask FSP Russia or Mythbusters? :)

Hi, IRL the 5.56 NATO tracers that we had were red and green, all the 7.62 were green for the CETMEs C, on the MG they were: x2 green, x1 red, x1 normal etc. At certain times of day you had troubles to see 'em by the air, was much easyer oppossed to the ground or a darker background as a hill; also... IRL you see 'em as a very slim thing by the air, that don't glows or brights that much. If the ArmA3 uses the same tracers effect as on the ArmA2 then yeah, it's entirely wrong. Let's C ya
