ArchAngelAlien 1 Posted July 15, 2012 Please forgive me if this has been mentioned anywhere as I did not find much on the subject. After using the SMK mod for so long in Arma 2 with my clans Insurgency server, I have grown accustomed to alot of animations. Such as, being able to sprint, and vault over a wall if you have sufficient stamina. I will not go much into detail on it, but this required a 3rd party mod to be installed client side, and hopefully server side. With Arma 3 around the corner and a few new animations being introduced in house like the last stand animations, I was hoping to hear something about being able to vault over walls and obstacles. This is a normal tactic that is used by all sides in War. However there being a few limitations such as, carrying too much gear and too overweight to be able to perform the vault, or not enough stamina to make it up the wall. Anyone shed some light on the subject, or are we still awaiting more announced features in the animations department?
sgtsn1per 1 Posted July 15, 2012 Just giving you the heads up, this could be locked.. so I will give you an answer. BI have added so many animations, just like they have improved so many of the previous ones. In arma2 and arma you can in a way vault over walls etc, but not to any degree of what you are asking, therefore one should believe BI would Improve this. zamani532 1 Posted July 15, 2012 BF3 style vaulting would be nice.
NeuroFunker 11 Posted July 15, 2012 i might be wrong, but vaulting over high walls, like in BF3 is rarely needed, but some smaller, human hight is more common, so yeah, being able to climb over human height walls is quite a nice feature. But it should be done in more realistic way, not so fast like in BF3 and stuff, so you should be in danger being shot down by climbing over walls.
Steakslim 1 Posted July 15, 2012 Would be cool to go the extra mile and be able to boost teammates over walls.
NeuroFunker 11 Posted July 15, 2012 and ofcourse, it should be bound to stamina and weight, so people won't overuse vaulting, it could kinda ruin gameplay, if we will have everyone climing around lol.
metalcraze 290 Posted July 15, 2012 BF3 style vaulting would be nice. Nope.
zamani532 1 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) I like how metalcraze is always there to shove his penis into other peoples opinions. I also hope the controls in ArmA3 arent as linear as they were in ArmA2, I don't need to stop moving to go for my pistol. ArchAngelAlien 1 Posted July 16, 2012 For those of you not familiar with SMK, I will use this video as a reference.
zamani532 1 Posted July 16, 2012 Thats exactly what I meant by quick vaulting, the first two animations in the video.
-Coulum- 35 Posted July 16, 2012 If they make it so the current step over thing doesn't require the player to stop ie. they can do it on the move, there should be no need for a jump vault etc. but since smokies the animator I would be surprised if we didn't get something like in the vid already posted. w0w00t 0 Posted July 16, 2012 protip: smookie is doing the animations for arma3, its possible. most of SMKs stuff is in arma3, the various stances, movement types, etc.
Flash Thunder 10 Posted July 16, 2012 anything that allows me to navigate the terrain in more diverse ways in a plus. The only thing is making it work for AI aswell. Boosting teammates up walls and vaulting objects would be great maybe we could see this in an expansion pack if it doesn't make it into retail Arma 3. NeuroFunker 11 Posted July 16, 2012 well, after watching that anims pres vid, i can say we are in good hands. :)
PLBJay 1 Posted July 16, 2012 Not needed? Well.. i guess you could say being able to dive isn ''needed'' but its still super awesome and gives a great feel too the game. i'd personall like diving, going on some beach kill a guy STEAL... he's uniform... and then jump over a fence to regroup with my squad. i would say that sounds pretty awesome. but in the same way. it'd be awesome with some ''hitting'' with the end of you're gun like being able to stun enemies or something(?) but i deffinenty think there should be vaulting/Jumping over larger walls or large fences :bounce3:

neokika 62 Posted July 16, 2012 Why not? Probably because in the same sentence there is a B, a F and a 3. ;)
metalcraze 290 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Why not? Because you can't vault around with 30KGs of gear? BF3's vaulting is like soldier is some circus acrobat that carries feathers, not equipment. Besides we already have step-over. I know step over doesn't look as cool but at least it's possible when carrying them M107 and Javelin. EricM 0 Posted July 16, 2012 You don't always wear 30kg in Arma. You can now even play in bikinis and underwear... And total weight seems to be taken into account now, so that the M107 and javelin guy can be prevented to double back flip over the fences. Seeing the SMK animations, I'm impressed. Good work there, I didn't know this was possible in A2 already.

JdB 151 Posted July 16, 2012 A friend of mine is an engineer and has had multiple deployments to Afghanistan. I asked him, and he basically said that if a wall is higher than the soldiers themselves (not easily scalable by an individual without specialist equipment), then they just blow a hole in it if there's really no other way to get past the obstacle. Climbing over a high wall with at least 35 kilograms (and often upwards of 50) strapped to you while under fire is not a sensible military tactic.
IAshford 1 Posted July 17, 2012 First of all, its a game. Unless you can have the option to crap your pants, I can suffer a little 'weight unrealism' in favour of better gameplay. And since I'm pretty sure you can't blow holes into all the walls in Arma3, climbing over it is a great alternative. I was very impressed with the features showcased in that video! Animations were a little rough, but still great. Are any of those features confirmed for Arma3? I'd be really happy if they added in boosting team mates over ledges as well
