Beagle 684 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) Did you think SOPA was bad?Meet ACTA, SOPAs big brother: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/01/we-have-every-right-be-furious-about-acta http://www.laquadrature.net/acta I said that two weeks ago but all I heard was: No SOPA is much worse, it must be because everyone on Facebook cares... but, SOPA was a problem solely of US responsibility, not much all the protesters from all around the rest of the world could have done about it and so I never understood why people in germany protested against SOPA but did not know about ACTA... It's all about manouvers in the dark these days. The new trend is to let People complain and protes a few weeks and then go on when the protesters are exhaustet.http://www.avaaz.org/en/ ---------- Post added at 05:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:16 AM ---------- Too late - nearly everyone has signed ACTA.If we stil life in at least soem kind of democracy laws can be changed if a majority is able to show that it's still that, a caring majority. But in fact I do not belive that online petitions will really do anything when politicians often do not now what a online petition is or simly denie any meaning to it (in fact in most countries a petion has to be "physical" on paper with real handmade subscriptions) Edited January 30, 2012 by Beagle

whisper 0 Posted January 30, 2012 Too late - nearly everyone has signed ACTA. No, it's not. Govt representatives gave a go for EU vote on ACTA for next June. http://avaaz.org/en/eu_save_the_internet/?fp for an example of possible action. More to come, of course, with need to contact your EU rep and such. Maybe Polish mobilization will show other countries that something went wrong. IF it goes past mass media lack of coverage ** cough cough **

Fox '09 14 Posted January 30, 2012 who on earth comes up with all this stupid legislation. I'm guessing some staffer for a congressman who wants to get some $$$ and a nice fat job at the MPAA. I remember seeing a protest earlier this month of ACTA, I think in poland.. my only thoughts is I wish our people weren't so apathetic.
vilas 477 Posted January 30, 2012 who on earth comes up with all this stupid legislation. read about Bildeberg club and such like stuff since ancient era, small groups of very greed people were making all efforts , to suck blood of majority vampire is fantasy creature which is strong and live long when hurt people but vampire is just metaphore of "elites of our globe" they feed when rest suffer, make stupid legislation, make wars, make problems, cause than they have bilions, not even milions, but bilions of dollars to spend on private toys and hundreds of women etc. most of our politicians later take seat in banks and other institutions, so to get such seat , first they must make legislation for "sponsors" when i was young i believed that politicians are people who want to do something for "people, nation, country" which is total bs, they are full of lies and only goal is to reach position, take money, take power and later put kids and family in seats in banks and such like institutions
[GLT] Legislator 66 Posted January 30, 2012 I hate the Bilderberger club ... if only because they are not transparent enough. Even the press is forbidden to report about their meetings. That's not what I call democracy. But I know this "elite" will pay for their crimes some day ... I can wait.

Lauxman 10 Posted January 30, 2012 There's nothing we can do about it and no sense in hating them. The alternative to private people holding power due to their successful businesses is state-run economics. Care to let me know how that worked out for the Soviet Union? reconteam 19 Posted January 31, 2012 I've already learned to stop worrying and welcome our dystopian future ruled over by corporations. They can't do any worse than what we've got now.

whisper 0 Posted January 31, 2012 [/img]http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/000/554/facepalm.jpg[/img] He has a point, though. Imho, problem doesn't lie in a system, but just in corruption of power. Replace current system with a more controlled one, and inevitably that will create a new cast of people in power who will abuse it. This is how every political system has been so far. What helps avoiding this is transparency, and that's why free access to Internet may well be key for the future. You can't escape easily from an information leaked on Internet. That's why the current groups in power will fight against uncontrolled access to Internet.
Tonci87 163 Posted January 31, 2012 Yeah just imagine what will happen with leaked stuff like it was on wikileaks. With ACTA they would have the power to immediately erase that from the web.

Well, that's so obvious, yet it didn't come to my mind :(. I think Russian gov. wouldn't interfere if it was hosted in Russia (because... you know... most of the leaks from WL hurts US .. unless it was released purposefully ). [GLT] Legislator 66 Posted January 31, 2012 I guess in the future there will be at least 2 internets ... the "public" or "official" internet and the darkweb. It's only a matter of time.
