Black Russian 10 Posted September 21, 2011 PhysX will definately add a whole new level of realism to the series. I´m really looking forward to see how it will work in Arma 3 It is great to have better physics and I am looking forward too but it is sad that this is a [proprietary] system in favor of Nvidia. I am not sure if this has changed but it was on purpose not optimized for modern CPUs and only used one thread. Guess why. If this hasn't changed in the mid of 2012 AMD users have a real penalty. Mr. Charles 22 Posted September 21, 2011 #include <physx.h> Ah come on, how hard can that be? ;)
metalcraze 290 Posted September 21, 2011 AMD users would have no penalty. Stop with these stupid myths

PuFu 4600 Posted September 21, 2011 Highly inaccurate BTW. There won't be ANY hardware accelerated physics. That said, no matter if you have nvidia or amd, the ragdols and such will work on CPU.
Smurf 12 Posted September 21, 2011 There won't be ANY hardware accelerated physics. That said, no matter if you have nvidia or amd, the ragdols and such will work on CPU. And MIGHT work on the GPU for the Nvidia owners?
metalcraze 290 Posted September 21, 2011 Of course not. If BIS will use NVidia GPUs to accelerate physics AMD users will be heavily penalized by receiving no penalty. I'm actually wondering what this supposed penalty is? NVidia users having better FPS in case of more complex physics? Well I on my 260 have worse overall FPS than dudes with 570s f.e. - am I penalized?
Tonci87 163 Posted September 21, 2011 Well I know that I will get myself an Nvidia card when Arma3 has been released. I want to be on the safe side.
Smurf 12 Posted September 21, 2011 Of course not. If BIS will use NVidia GPUs to accelerate physics AMD users will be heavily penalized by receiving no penalty. Penalty? Who cares. You can play with diferent shadow, ground and lighting effects and may some advantage over other players as in many games. The option to "unload" the PhysX stuff to the GPU would help to increase performance, since ARMA seems a lot more CPU bound. Probably getting a NVIDIA next too... PuFu 4600 Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) And MIGHT work on the GPU for the Nvidia owners? Do we really need to start the discussion we had in A3 subforums again? the ONLY HW accelerated Physix i have seen IN ANY OTHER GAME SO FAR is related to destruction (via APEX most of the times) and particles and cloth etc... Neither of the above is said to make appearance in A3. The physix is in for the collision, rigid bodies and ragdolls. All of those, in ANY other game, are CPU side. Please understand this once and for all. If you want to know more, there are a lot of info http://developer.nvidia.com/physx Edited September 21, 2011 by PuFu
froggyluv 2136 Posted September 21, 2011 A valiant effort PuFu yet I fully expect to be reading these same complaints, next year, while they are playing Arma3 physx to the fullest - unbeknownst :p
Dwarden 1125 Posted September 22, 2011 closing this thread, not subject of betas in forseeable future feel free to discuss in ARMA 3 section
