  1. 1. Who here wants accurate depiction of battlefeild violence

    • i dont want realistic wounds

Heh. Interesting angled choices in this poll. How come there's no option for "toned down, and no dismemberment"?

Full gore serves little purpose. Dismemberment is nothing but resource-hogging eye candy (both development time and computer resources).

Wound representation can still be quite realistic without needing to be super-gory.

If ragdolls are confirmed, they should probably be used on headshots and explosions.

In my personal opinion though, I would like to see real gore and blood and wounds in the game. This game isnt about pure entertainment, its a simulation.

and I believe that If I can one day turn off arma and really think in perspective to how a real war looks and feels like, then I think the game has done justice.

Yeah and then you'll never want to play the game again.

Yeah and then you'll never want to play the game again.

On the contrary, due to the amount of addiction video gaming, among other things, is causing, there is less violence* in the streets of our cities. Simulated murder detracts from the real thing.

*Exceptions do apply.

yes VBS2 is always setting the standarts

and this level of gore would be enough and just perfect for Arma III

Agreed. That's enough.

Good wound textures (that resembles dark red blood "splats") is already some immersive. If they are big enough, it looks like the blood is covering the wound.

I saw/modded it in other games, and IMHO, it was enough.

I know some people wants gore, and the fact it's shocking for some make the thing look more real, less robotic.

If I was playing Arma 3 and I shot a dude with a .50 and he came apart, I wouldn't be thinking "Aw man, war is hell, this is grim as can be, I don't want to be here". I'd be thinking, no, not thinking - yelling out loud "AHAHA AW MAN THAT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT? GET SOME!"

Very

, its AWESOME. :D

I think there's a bit too much of this rule:

§19) Videos/Movies

No Video/movies, either posted or linked to shall contain any of the following.

Porn, real killing, mutilations, wounds, carnage, and other disgusting/explicit footage. If something offensive is being shown in cartoon form it shall be treated as if the imagery were real and not simply cartoon. This also includes team killing or anything glorifying deliberate and or anti-social behaviour on any Public or Private server.[/Quote]

being broken :3

I really do hope BIS will add gore just like in VBS2.

They need to add cries of agony though to it because otherwise it wouldn't seem too real.

I've yet to see a single game that tries to show a war in a more or less realistic way and manage to provide a horrifying atmosphere like you can see in f.e. HBO's WW2 tv series which also try to 'show' war.

I really believe BIS war games lack that.

And for good reason. Why on Earth would you want to create a 'horrifying atmosphere'? People play war games because war is awesome and fun. That would be like trying to make an anti-war game, which is impossible to do when gameplay involves warfare of any kind. If you really try to bring home the HORROR OF WAR then it defeats the purpose of being a game, which is to have FUN. I want to be enjoying playing soldier, not thinking about 'what real war feels like' or hearing a guy crying for his dead best friend like some guy suggested a page or two ago. That's ridiculous.

Not sure I agree with that. Arma's good fun as a game, but it can be a movie like experience too if the campaign is good enough. You get tension, emotion, a good storyline - the horrors of war have a place there.

Obviously there's a line that can be crossed where over the top gore loses it's impact. Rambo 4 is an especially good example. :p

Yeah in a campaign, sure. But even there, you're never going to be able to get a visceral reaction from THE HORROR because it's next to impossible to do it in a game without going too far. Generally I don't care if an AI dies. Did anyone give a shit when they found the mass graves in Arma 2? I didn't.

No, not really. But if they take the time to develop the characters and then have them suffer the real horrors of war, it has more of an impact. I'm thinking pre-Armed Assault by the way. I remember a sense of injustice at the callous executions in Resistance. The same effect you get in a well directed film. Pan's Labyrinth had some seriously shocking executions, but an Arma game wouldn't have to go that far. Just enough to convey the callousness and senselessness of death in war. And I think a lot of people remember the original OFP as having an anti-war message.

As long as the people who do the voice-overs don't make the player sound like a total pansy, hah I still remember the days playing the ARMA2 campaign just after release, your character would go on groaning for ages after being wounded and this feature was pretty annoying and quote heavily criticized by reviews at the time. If cries of agony are included I think they should only be included when necessary, for example if the player is wounded and surrounded by other wounded people/corpses and his morale is low, otherwise it would sound inappropriate (in both ways :p).

Install SLX, and you get a feeling how it is:

1st disemberement

2nd cryes of injured ppl

3rd, lots of injured ppl, most are not dying, but lying on the ground, whining around and bending in pain.

This is war, and this is what i never want to see in reallife. But in Games :D

Like Gorden Gecko says "Gore, for lack of a better word -is good..."

Don't need SoF type clinical deconstruction of the human body organ by organ to make that work. Oh, and please no excessive whimpering via the poor PLA soldiers from DR.
