There are plenty of afghanistan maps. Rural Japan makes up for some mountainclimbing, where you actually cannot go from A-B, throw in a big City near the coast like Kyoto, with custom buildings, narrow streets and of course, a geisha house :p

Vilas has some DPRK units, and to counter them, Zerg63's ROK units. :cool:

I would really like a map based strongly on Afghanistan.

Would you be referring to the mountains, the deserts, the plateau, the plains, the foothills, the delta or the forest?

Yeah I know. If it would be possible to include a bit of everything that would be great. I'm not pretending that it has to be relying on real life data. A fictional map would be OK too.

I chose City/Urban. I would like for something from the USA itself. Even if it was inspired by the bigger cities like Chicago (down town)' date=' San Diego (port area), Los Angeles (tram line + hollywood studio's.) Washington D.C. (government/capitol area, broad parade-street.) Dallas/Forth Worth (airport layout) And ofcourse the "Crammed Canyon" :D (CO Dam-structure! referring to Grand Canyon would-be Hoover-dam! ;) )[/quote']

Oh, and for old times sake, how about adding an Iron Curtain to that, within city-limits actually being something like a concrete Berlin Wall? I certainly would welcome that for even more mission-possibilities, to see a city being devided by such means. :) I would absolutely love to see that appear, atleast on one village/town on whatever map you're going to create!

But whatever it's going to be, thanks for wanting to poll opinions, and thanks again for wanting to try to do something unique. :)

Id love to have a urban map, but this game just doesnt do urban areas very well. I always end up running into walls or getting stuck on doorways, and my FPS gets hammered. :(

I also would go along with a large urban area, with skyscrapers ect, a proper city, inwhich you could go into most buildings ect, ofcourse you'd need custom buidlings for alot of it, but since OA i imagine it would be easier.

You should make smaller maps that are centralized around nation capitols

A theme park map would be Amazing! Rides HAVE to be operational as well . . . sniping terrorists on the hellevator while twirling upside down on a roller coaster would make me so happy.

As Bushlurker has pointed out, there are some limitations on the terrains we can create.

So we need to take this into consideration. Creating a terrain can take months, a combined group effort may take at least 4-6 weeks. This is without creating any custom objects...

Clearly an Urban map will either use current ARMA 2 buildings or a set of model makers willing to create new buildings.

Similarly a winter map will require some additional effort to attempt to provide "snow effects" on objects (if possible).

Its great to get community feedback, but 181 responses is disappointing. Come on folks! We know you download our terrains (just look at the download stats on Armaholic!) So lets get a few more votes up here and we'll see where we stand.

In my last coop session we had great fps all over Takistan, until we went into the city near an airfield. 40 fps went down to 15? 10? If you look down an alley of buildings with glassfronts / open doors ArmA2 really shows its ugly side.

Somehow i think an Urban big city island with all buildings enterable is not going to happen with this engine. But does it need to be like that?

If you could only enter every 10th building, would it ok if its a really huge city? Would it make up for that?

I'd say yes.

if were honest arma 2 is not an CQB game

the engine's strenght are wide and open maps

i think you should show your abilities by creating a map thats not necessarily huge, but has its focus on detail and realism, featuring custom vegetation, rocks and objects

i have this style of iraq terrain in my mind:

which would then also cover the CQB aspect.

Through the town goes one bigger highway with smaller streets at its side

and maybe you can try out the possibilities concerning caves

just imagine patroulling on this highway and getting ambushed by an IED, some compound clearing in the green zone or flying above those mountains as an doorgunner in an CH-47 when the sun goes down and everything is in warm red colours

What do you think about this?

For this type of environment we already have the perfect units and basics, so all we need is an nice concept, time and the will to pull it through!

and guys, 185 cant be all! ;)

I would love to see a mexico style map that includes the desert terraign to the north along the border, the grasslands areas a little further south and jungle at the bottom. a few big cities as well as smaller rural villages and border checkpoints on the north and south. a few US border towns would be cool too. if not that then a North Korea/China map. I have waited for that forever.

Im totally agree with what PurePassion said. a nice great terrain (more plain than anything else) maybe 2-3 little villages... surrounding area should be more of a green zone with some compounds and stuff. Snowy mountains sounds good too. Something like a greenzone with a river on foot of the mountains... just take a look at the vbs2 terrain packs and u get a idea of what im talking about.
