maruk 80 Posted March 21, 2011 Performance should be also improved over beta patches 1.58.xxxx and LODs in dense scenes should flicker less than in verson 1.57.
Coffeecat 10 Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) so are we able to put this over the 1.59RC full patch or is it only for 1.58? just installed it over 1.59 and it works, hope it does the right way=)^ Edited March 21, 2011 by Coffeecat
duckmeister 10 Posted March 21, 2011 I think (just like the last few 1.58 betas) that you are even able to install betas over 1.57. I would like confirmation if that is the case, though. Can I install this beta over 1.57?

Can I install this beta over 1.57? I just installed over 1.57, no problems at all. Dwarden, I created the ticket about the spanish localization issues: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/18385 Thanks for the hard work.
mosh 0 Posted March 21, 2011 This issue still showing up... http://www.dev-heaven.net/issues/15886 Has anyone else confirmed this? No settings have changed, just stopped working after 78413 (last beta it worked with, and does again if I revert). It applies to everyone I play with, not just some of them. I've only seen it affect voice, not text. Thanks. Everything else working good. :)
duckmeister 10 Posted March 21, 2011 I am getting quite a bit more lod-switching with buildings and vegetation with this patch compared to 78967. But, I also have increased performance.
KeyCat 131 Posted March 21, 2011 Thanks! I'm still on 1.57 but will try this out... /KC

duckmeister 10 Posted March 21, 2011 I've been testing with quite a few missions now, and I am definitely getting way more LOD switching than I was with 78967. Hopefully this can be fixed by the next beta patch.
Alwarren 2767 Posted March 22, 2011 I'll see if I can come up with a repro mission for this (just found this issue and it's night here), but I just played the PMC campaign mission "Termination" with this beta patch, and ran into a problem: Asano has a revolver. There's two NTA camps, I was attacking the one to the south when Ry-man switched his M8 Sharpshooter for the revolver. After that, he would no longer move. He was kneeling there, and no command could convince him to move. I reloaded, and got the same problem. I reloaded again and had him put down the revolver, and after that he would no longer get stuck. I'll post the CIT report tomorrow.

ffur2007slx2_5 11 Posted March 22, 2011 Performance improvement, sounds good, can't wait to test.
.kju 3245 Posted March 22, 2011 It is actually considerably less FPS (10%) - even though I had PP disabled (last post for details). Yet it might be due to higher LODs shown overall and less LOD switching. FPS alone does not tell the whole picture.
PeterBitt 10 Posted March 22, 2011 for my taste its a good balance between lod switching and performance with this beta. i havent tested the high settings yet, but they should always show highest quality and no lod switching no matter you bad performance gets - all the guys with their super computers out there will agree. suma 8 Posted March 22, 2011 I've been testing with quite a few missions now, and I am definitely getting way more LOD switching than I was with 78967. Hopefully this can be fixed by the next beta patch. Can you post some particular repro steps, prefereably (if possible) not from a mission, but from a scene created in a mission editor? Another important thing: what is your resolution and your Object detail settings?
Beagle 684 Posted March 22, 2011 LOD switching is usually only a problem with detail and texture settings lower as high. I for myselfs can't notive any increase since 78188 with default very high setting with anti aliasing and post processing off.
duckmeister 10 Posted March 22, 2011 Can you post some particular repro steps, prefereably (if possible) not from a mission, but from a scene created in a mission editor? Another important thing: what is your resolution and your Object detail settings? I am running at 1600x1200 with 100% fillrate. Texture, terrain, and object detail is on normal. The LOD switching happens even in the scenes playing in the background of the main menu (it happens everywhere). Once I have access to my home computer I will post all of my graphics settings. Another issue that I'm now noticing is a "shimmer" on ATOC vegetation when the player is moving. I do not get either of these two issues when using 78967. duckmeister 10 Posted March 23, 2011 Okay, I have just finished some tests. When object detail is set to very high, the LOD switching is lessened, but still prevalent. The ATOC shimmer is still there, though. The issue is present regardless of whether mods are present, whether Vsync is enabled, etc. Reinstalling beta 78967 fixes all issues. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a Core i7 920 @ 3.5GHz with an ATI 5970 (Catalyst 10.11). Hopefully this issue gets fixed before the official release! .kju 3245 Posted March 23, 2011 @ Duckmeister Can you post some particular repro steps, preferably (if possible) not from a mission, but from a scene created in a mission editor?
duckmeister 10 Posted March 23, 2011 @ Duckmeister Like I said, it happens everywhere. It happens in the benchmark, it happens in the intro screens, everywhere. It is purely a graphics issue, reminiscent of the LOD trashing ATI users had before the VRAM detection fix. But if you really want a repro... 1. Load up any island in the editor. I chose Takistan. 2. Place yourself as infantry, preferably near a town, ideally with vegetation. 3. For reference, place a tank along a nearby road, and set its waypoint to move past you. 4. Preview the mission. 5. Look around. 6. Watch for flashing buildings, rocks, trees. 7. Move up towards a rock, see how it remains at its lowest LOD. 8. Watch the tank flash between LODs as it drives by. 9. Move around in some grass, watch it shimmer as if theres a small strobe light over the vegetation, but only when you move. Since this is such a general issue, I thought a repro was unnecessary, but there you go.
