firstrecon 10 Posted March 13, 2011 Guys, I'm new to pc gaming and I need some help. What is STOPPING ARMA 2 OA from playing well on this set up? Acer aspire x3400 Windows 7 Home premeium 64Bit AMD Athlon IIx2 215 Processer (2CPUs) 2.7Ghz Memory: 3072MB Direct x 11 GFX CARD, Nvidia GeForce 9200 Approx Mem =1393MB Where am I going wrong can anyone help me please would be greatly appreciated!!! [frl]myke 14 Posted March 13, 2011 Well, i would say the CPU and the GPU. The CPU might handle it but the GPU is by far below subpar. OA/CO requires at least a 8600GT. Remember, the first number only says which generation it is, the second is somewhat meaningful about performance. So 2 is lower than 6. The newer generation doesn't mean much, a 30 year old Ferrari still beats a brand new Fiat500. ;)
firstrecon 10 Posted March 13, 2011 So what are you suggesting ? Im not familiar with GPU what does that mean? Shall I upgrade my gfx card? if so what one would work best with my setup ?
ScareCroweb 10 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) So what are you suggesting ? Im not familiar with GPU what does that mean?Shall I upgrade my gfx card? if so what one would work best with my setup ? If you want arma to run smooth Get a new pc is my first gut feeling on this, buddy My rig is E8500 Duo 3,17 GHZ ATI Radeon HD5870 VaporX win 7 64 BIT RAM 8 Gigabyte you wont have any problems with lag and you can use very high settings on everything and because of the special cooling system on the video card you can barely hear the fan while playing ;) Edited March 13, 2011 by ScareCroweb
firstrecon 10 Posted March 13, 2011 I want solutions not problems, getting a brand new pc is not an option as I have recently brought this one so im going to work with what I have for now. What exactly is going to help this game run better with my setup? What specs are ok on my setup for it to run fine ? And what needs to be changed?
Zipper5 74 Posted March 13, 2011 GPU = Graphics Processing Unit (graphics card) CPU = Central Processing Unit (processor) Out of the specs you listed, the only thing that may not have to change is what you listed as "Memory", which I believe is your RAM (Random-Access Memory), but even then it's a little on the weak side if its frequency is low. Your processor and graphics card are a little too weak to run Arma 2 at the settings you desire. If you're willing to sacrifice image quality for performance, try turning all your ingame graphics settings to their lowest setting and then play around with them until you find the "sweet spot" between image quality and performance. firstrecon 10 Posted March 13, 2011 brilliant so the best things to change are what you have said, thats for that !
NoQuarter 0 Posted March 14, 2011 Guys, I'm new to pc gaming and I need some help. What is STOPPING ARMA 2 OA from playing well on this set up? GFX CARD, ... Nvidia GeForce 9200 ... Approx Mem =1393MB GeForce 9200 is Integrated Graphics (onboard chip/shared memory), not a GPU, and that is without question, your biggest hurdle. The spec list from the manufacturer shows what they ship as options for the x3400, and you can use that as a starting point, and if your unit came with the standard PSU (220W), you would probably be limited to that selection. Primarch 10 Posted March 15, 2011 brilliant so the best things to change are what you have said, thats for that ! If you wish to play ArmA well, you need to dump that system and get 500£ for a new one.
firstrecon 10 Posted March 15, 2011 yeah as I said, solutions not problems primarch you fucking cunt.
W0lle 1052 Posted March 15, 2011 yeah as I said, solutions not problems primarch you fucking cunt. That's exactly the way - not - to get help here.
firstrecon 10 Posted March 15, 2011 Sorry but I clearly said id prefer solutions and he wasnt helping.
flattermann 12 Posted March 15, 2011 i dont get it, people are getting banned apparently simply for posting in the wrong section and he can just call other ppl cunts? Changing your laptop, where's the problem here? Unless you got it someway illegally or threw the check away ... that would be an easy solution, a lot easier than changing the GPU in a laptop. That wouldn't suit it anyway, so forget about it. If you ask for help at least consider the answers you get instead of trying to start a barfight. If you want to keep your laptop as you bought it, well then your solution is not to play this game.
W0lle 1052 Posted March 15, 2011 We never have banned anyone for posting in the wrong section. I would like to see from where you get that idea (by PM). Besides that we have a rule here you just violated: §18) No public discussion on how the forum is moderatedIf you have questions/complaints/comments about the forum or moderators please PM them to a moderator, we will do our utmost to reply to any that we receive. If you have an issue that you feel cannot be solved by another moderator then please PM the head moderator (Placebo), he will be happy to look into the matter. You may also ask your questions in the "Ask a mod" thread; however that thread is not to be used to attack/rant against specific moderators or about specific rules but more for questions/answers. firstrecon 10 Posted March 15, 2011 christ almight flatterman if you cant help then please just dont post, nothing in your post is remotley helpful so if your here just to make a fuss be arrogant and ignorant id prefer it if you didnt 'help'. All I asked was for a bit of info, and your being a total bigot.
[frl]myke 14 Posted March 15, 2011 Hell what do you expect? Anyone coming up with some sort of voodoo trick that turns your PC into a machine of hell? Everyone is pointing you to replace the weak parts of your PC which are mainly the CPU and the Graphic cards. Now it depends on your Motherboard how far you can go there. Also nobody knows if your PSU can handle more powerful (and therefor more power consuming) hardware. So the advice to go for a new more powerful PC is the best advice that can be given. It might not be what you wanted to hear. But this is the help that can be given. If you want more precise help, maybe it's a good idea to pass over some more detailed description of your hardware, starting with your motherboard, to see what is possible. Then it would also help how much you're willing/able to spend on some upgrades. Until then, i strongly recommend that you read the Forum rules as IMHO you already violated 2 of them: §1) No Flaming/Flame-baiting/bigotry Abusive, racist, sexist, homophobic comments (or any other type of bigotry), personal attacks and name calling are not allowed either on the forum or through PM's. If you receive a PM that is abusive or you find offensive please forward it to a moderator who will investigate. Flame-baiting is also not tolerated; flame-baiting is making a post to someone that is obviously intended to elicit an angry response. Mocking/teasing/ridiculing someone or the point someone wants to make is also flamebaiting. This also applies to other areas of the forums such as leaving visitor messages on people's profiles, messages posted in social groups, as well as quoting someone against their wishes in your signature to belittle/tease/mock them. If someone asks you to remove something they posted on the forum from your signature you must remove it. Common sense tells you that posting someone's PMs without permission is also flamebaiting and will be punished. §22) Use descriptive thread titles If you start a new thread, please make sure your thread title explains what you want without forcing people to read through your post first. Thread titles such as "How in the world do I...", "Need help!" or "Will we ever see..." are anything but descriptive. We do not allow these kind of titles and threads with such titles are subject to be closed.
ScareCroweb 10 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) I got your solution: Dont play the game. if you dont want any problems btw your behavior has been insulting to the more experienced guys on the forum we are only trying to help you and there was another guy here with excactly same Question as you and he accepted our answer and was respectfull enough to apologies for his mistake thinking his setup was good enough for this game. so I gave him thumbs up, and I am tempted to give you the thumb down. sorry if you still take this the wrong way. try this: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ Edited March 16, 2011 by ScareCroweb
duckmeister 10 Posted March 16, 2011 yeah as I said, solutions not problems primarch you fucking cunt. Getting a new PC is certainly a solution to your problem. Don't blame others for your own crappy PC. And if you want to get any further help, I suggest you stop acting like a total jerk, and maybe brighten up the language a bit. mosh 0 Posted March 16, 2011 Common sense would tell you old outdated computer parts won't run an advanced game like this... Also drop the attitude. No one is impressed by it. You sound like a jackass.
teaboy 11 Posted March 16, 2011 You can get a custom built top of the range or mid to top range pc that would be capable of handling Arma 2 from pcspecialist.co.uk. I know you can not afford to buy one out right, but these guys offer a credit facility that is easy to apply for and allows you to pay a fixed amount each month over a period of months. I would suggest you use them as they are good and pretty quick at building and deliverying them. So problem solved.
OscerMike 10 Posted March 16, 2011 yeah as I said, solutions not problems primarch you fucking cunt. Who do you think you are mate? Military or not, treat people with some respect please.
b00tsy 28 Posted March 16, 2011 As suggested, turn graphics settings down (especially AA and 3D res). Increasing virtual memory can help, running gamebooster helps, playing in windowed mode can help, lots of free space on your HD helps too. Not much more you can do then this. Well you could use RAMdisk I heard, not sure how that works though, so you have to ask someone else about that (nicely).
domokun 515 Posted March 16, 2011 Veteran or not, I suggest you change your tone or else risk getting banned. He and others have tried to help. If you don't like their advice fine but please refrain from insulting others.
mattchicago 10 Posted March 16, 2011 Here guys let me dumb this down a bit for him so he fully understands the games minimal and max requirements (since i build machines as well) this might help him to tweek his system a bit. Your Computer Specs. Acer aspire x3400 Windows 7 Home premeium 64Bit AMD Athlon IIx2 215 Processer (2CPUs) 2.7Ghz Memory: 3072MB Direct x 11 GFX CARD, Nvidia GeForce 9200 Approx Mem =1393MB Your Problems on Setup (Rig) First if you want to pull more power or resources get a bare bone version of windows XP Called Experience then remove Windows 7 (i hate 7) and well once you knock out Windows 7 and use the Experian WinXP it will knock out a lot of things process wise you do not need to use (helps speed up the machine a bit) also 64bit Os machines have issues to begin with. Video Card Upgrade and Video Card Memory Upgrade Well that is the second issue right there you are trying to push a major game through a weak video card and memory. you could try to put everything to low settings on the game and change the resolution from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600 and set everything to low or none but i am not sure if that will help much due to the video card and memory on your chipset. IT might though. Your Processor and Memory are Fine. Directx11 Change that from 11 back to 9.0c (runs better) less bugged. Whatever processes you have running in the background of your computer lower right side of taskbar if you are not technically using them and they are loaded up in the bottom right side right click and exit them or stop the process also make sure you do not have any hidden processes running by clicking ALT, CNTL, DEL (1 time) then go to task manager and look for things you might not be using (do not close out any of the svhosts, explorer, taskmangr, ati *stuff* or system or system idle, everything else can be subject to being closed out of process unless is audio related or video card related or system related. Hope this helps a bit....since you have nvidia card do a card driver update and also like i said remove DirectX11 and put back in DirectX9.c its much smoother and less bugged. Jacky60 10 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Unfortunately you're trying to play Arma 2 on a turd of a system. The only thing worth keeping on your current PC is the operating system. The solution without spending a lot more than you seem to be prepared to is to set all the settings to an absolute minimum with 500 metre draw distance. However this game will look and play awfully even at those settings on your PC. Its like entering a Formula 1 Grand Prix riding a lawnmower. There is nowhere near enough power to get you anywhere near where you want to be. Edited March 16, 2011 by Jacky60
