DX 11 and ARMA/CO ??

Recommended Posts

Are there any issues with ARMA2/CO and DX 11??

I'm currently still using DX9 actually (for some other reasons). But have recently upgraded my video card to a GTX 460 and likely will be upgrading to DX 11.

Just wondering others thoughts on DX 11 (as compared to DX 9) and to any issues with ARMA.... (or if I should stick with DX 9).

Thanks

ArmA2/CO runs on dx9. Running a DX11 card with a DX9 will do nothing more than lack the DX11 features as far as I know, and besides you still need to have latest DX9 installed to run the game anyways.

You can't have both DX9 and DX11 on your system, can you?

If I install DX11 will ARMA still run? I would think so....but perhaps not? I didn't think most people were still using DX9, like me...

You can run DX9 and 11 together with no problems.

ArmA 2 doesn't support DX11 so you will see no change. I think it's still on DX9 if I'm not mistaken.

How so? When you install / upgrade to DX 11 doesn't it just replace DX9 (like a video driver update more or less?).

I've never had 2 DX versions running on a computer system. It always just shows one...

With that said...I guess I might as well just stiick to DX 9 then...for now anyway.

No, The software uses dx9 opposed to dx11, it will still use 9 when 11 is installed.

Only DX11 games use DX11, DX9 Games use DX9, DX10 games use DX10.

Oh. Gotcha. So if you install DX11 (you still automatically have DX9) and ARMA will continue to run off the DX9...

Thanks.

Yeah you basically have DX9,10 and 11 installed at the same time until one gets obsolete(DX9 eventually) Having DX10 and 11 are just for games or applications that support it, it will not change every game, just those that support it.

DX10 is dead-end noone cares about that one anymore...

Ok.... Then what about DX11 or whatever is the latest cool hotness at that time? Would that not help on some of the issues with LOD and particles?

indeed, for LOD switching it would help a lot. In fact, using DX11 in itself, you shouldn't need more than one resolution LOD anymore (in theory).

But then again, what is the percentage of gamers owning a DX11 card? Not that many. (although more are getting one these days since it is more affordable and wider spread). Still, the games using DX11 are scarce to say the least

I don't think DX11 will become mainstream like DX9 until the next generation of consoles hits us, unfortunately.

Also, the games that do use DX10/11 may look pretty, but mostly suck in game play.

What are you talking about?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R CoP, Bad Company 2, Metro 2033 are just three I can name off the top of my head, all amazing games and extremely good gameplay and look great. DX11 would be amazing if implemented into OA/ArmA 2. Lighting would finally have the potential to look good.

Yeah, no. It is not like BIS has several millions of reserved resources for that kind of engine coding. They need to code the engine pretty much again for the implemention of new technologies such as tesselation and better lighting and particle system. The Direct X is just an API for easier programming.

Can someone summarise the better lighting of DX11? Is it anything like deferred lighting? Deferred lighting would be appropriate for ArmA2, no more hardware light limits :)

well, buy all the DLC they make so then they can work with a new engine upgrade with DX11 (?)

Yes, I agree it's time to add dx11 capabilities, I want tessalation in arma

I wish that you will fund the whole project to code a new engine, and I also think you haven't read the thread at all, yes? You better start giving out money to BIS for them to hire people who has got experience with DX 11.

I've played a couple of DX11 games vs. their DX9 versions and to be honest I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference. AvP runs slightly faster, and the aliens have a slightly smoother silhouette with tessellation enabled.
