Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | Discussion HERE!

Recommended Posts

Ok seeing as on multiple occasions people have forgotten to read the title of the Official PR thread, I'm making a discussion thread here.

Currently on-topic is the ION website (Discussion here) and the BIS expansion (literally, BIS are expanding :D although they may be working on a virtual expansion too!.)

intro2f.jpg IMO this looks like Chernarus has been expanded to the south

arma2oa2010100302521181.jpg

(Warning big image in spoiler although smaller than 100kb)

abbvk.jpg

And it would make sense, seeing as in the ARMAversum, there is a landmass which goes all the way down to the capital of Novigrad; maybe BIS have found a way to make rivers 'work' (possibly even flow in a certain direction) in ARMA2 and get the AI to navigate their way around on them, although it does look pretty wide so they should have no trouble ;).

Remember keep discussion in this thread!

As Imperator_Pete pointed out to me in a pm, it doesn't give a very good continuity sense in the story to have the landscape change so drastically from the A2 campaign.

Either way, its pretty cool to see more of the terrain from the area being included.

But this is only one picture, it may not mean that there actually will be an expanded Chernarus released.

For all we know, this could just be a picture from some sort of early development version of Chern.

Isn't the HQ of ION Takistan based in Bandar-e Ghazmi?

http://aan-online.com/en/europe/29-black-element-rebrand-corporate-image.html

ION's primary Green Sea base is located in the stable city of Bandar-e Ghazmi, where it oversees a $92 million contract to redevelop the deep water port facility; however,

it retains outposts in the more the volatile Central Takistan area and exclusive operational rights in Zargabad.

In what story? In eagle wing the Apache flies in from the east of chernarus and in red harvest if I recall correctly all the action out at sea happened in the vicinity of Utes which could plausibly make a comeback south of Novigrad in the supposed 'summer chernarus'.

Sure is all speculation, but what d'you think the new pic shows?

The early part pf the A2 campaign takes place by the shoreline pictured. And I think the strategy maps showed a shoreline too.

Its just a continuity error, not a big deal.

Something tells me there are two things under the hood here, maybe one dlc with czech forces on summer chernarus and another pmc campaign in Karzeghistan.

Sparks i'm starting to think you're right, but why would bis be showing this to us? Afterall; I don't remember bis ever showing us something and not eventually give it to us (whether free or paid). Maybe Utes exploded to form novi?!? :p

A river? I hope the AI can figure out how to cross it, instead of "Oh, let's all just swim across if (if that) and lose all our equipment. While under fire."

It seems so, but it doesn't really make any sense. Chernogorsk is a coastal city, it has a sea harbour, and all maps of Chernarus show it as a coastal city. Chyonora Bay is the bay at which the city stands, and that doesn't really fit a river. See also this.

Well, of course everything is possible

Oh yea, I just remembered that Chernarus was only about a 1/4 of the whole of Zagoria. I was looking for that map xD

I'm guessing the map I used above shows west Zagoria being north of Novi

maan I'm confused...

Although it does fit a river in real life (Chernarus was based on some real terrain in the Czech republic and cut off south of the river) :j:

Yeah, I think it is based on this area as far as I know.

Well if they do expand chernarus in a summer version at least they won't have any more of those red performance-hogging trees :D

A summer version of Chernarus would be bloody brilliant.

I'm getting very tired of this "Realism = brown!" stuff. Chernarus was mostly brown, Takistan is brown, a lot of other shooters feature lots of brown.. Brown is making me want to puke by now.

The "brown" thing is just colour filters, in Arma 2 and OA mission makers can make their own filter, like brownish, blueish, redish, pinkish, even amping up the original colours making it incredibly vibrant and somewhat cartoonish. So the "realism" is up to the mission maker:p

The opinion that Chernarus is brown, is because most of the official missions set in Chernarus and during daytime used a brownish colour filter.

Chernarus is the name of the country, South-Zagoria is the name of the area where the official campaign is set. Chernarus is much bigger than South Zagoria as seen in the maps of the Green Sea region.

To not cause any continuity error, The map should be expanded to the west not south.

But it is just a continuity error, not the end of the world. And Chernarus expanded = incredibly nice for those of us that dont like sand.:p

As sparks pointed out, that huge landmass in the 'sea' next to what we know as Chernogorsk would be a huge continuity error story wise as that's where the USMC land and establish their beach head during the invasion.

Perhaps we're seeing another location in Chernorus that isn't South Zagoria?

I'd love to see an area around Chernarus' capital (Novigrad?). It'd probably dwarf the size of chernagorsk.
