Call for ban on MOH. Will ArmA franchise be next?

Recommended Posts

So many contradictions with this it will go no place, like you say just a vote hungy band wagon monkey.

Why give an obviously vote-hungry British politician more exposure? Just let him go the way of Jack Thompson. ;)

Fuck. That's what I get for writing it at 2AM.

British. ;)

The line between games and reality seems to be very blurred for this individual.

Even so, a multiplayer game with a non-politically correct side is old, old news. I'm still waiting for a single player mode where you get to play on the Axis or terrorist side.

The USA is not the world, in fact it's becoming more and more insignificant wat they do over there. Since BIS is no US company, and western Europe is not under US dictatorship anymore...I just dont care what US politicians think, say or mean. They should rather focus on their own homegrown problems.

Just another media hype over nothing, video games have a reputation for being evil and violent if you listen to anything the media says. I absolutely hate Dr Liam Fox anyway...

I like it how the title of that article is

Fox urges ban on Taliban video game
yeah, so forgetting about most of it being based around the US then?

A spokeswoman for the game's developer, Electronic Arts, told the Sunday Times: "The format of the new Medal of Honor game merely reflects the fact that every conflict has two sides.

That's my girl :) ;)

I don't see any problem with this, if ppl don't like games like this, then don't buy it. It's lot of other good games to play, like Tetris :D

A mere farce if ask me. As long as there are popular games in this world there will be idiots trying to prevent, what they think is, a "morally wrong" thing to do.

Gamers don't really care who they are, as long as they can shoot. Virtually. Of course, one side always got the cooler equipment or uniforms. ;)

As for ArmA II: It's not popular or mainstream enough to show up on the radar to this guy. Hence, the whole deal with banning one game and leaving the rest open is completely pointless.

Not to mention it got a +18 rating in the UK. Anyone with a grip on reality and a sense of morals (come on, it's a game..) shouldn't have a problem at all.

In fact I have to confess that I like and prefer to shot at models that look like US-soldiers in military games for quite A while. I started to feel this way since the US-Invasions into Afghanistan and Iraq

These 'game ban' things always seem to come up every now and then. They never go anywhere. It's all about generating political capital or to distract from more important issues.

Come on now. Was that necessary?

This ban won't be going anywhere. It has no real public support.

Well I guess it was only a matter of time untill some vote hungry politician tried this to increase his flagging popularity. Lets hope they dont start to target ArmAII OA next!

it reminds me of that game 6 days in fallujah that got its support pulled after people made a fuss.

i don't think they can do much to big corporations like ea, but possibly can influence smaller companies like the one that made 6 days.

also, arma2 simply is not very popular and most importantly is fictional.

c'mon dude that wasn't necessary. While you don't have to agree with the war, how would you feel if somebody said that they prefered shooting at something that looked like one of your parents, or the parents of many of your friends? You are entitled to your opinion, but you might want to think before you voice it. We have a freedom of speech, that doesn't mean we should always use it.

Although this entire thing is really really stupid.

to be honest, i can see where he's coming from. and it wouldn't be a big loss anyway. it's medal of honor. basically just call of duty with better character models.

And still no one complains when someone come here and say they want to buy this game and shoot some talibans

Exactly. Also, considering he is the British Secretary of State for Defence, this outburst is a pretty damning indictment of his judgement.

I like fighting against US forces in the game because fighting superior technology with inferior technology is more of a challenge and sometimes more fun. But I don't do it just to kill Americans. I think anyone who derives enjoyment specifically from the nationality of the people they are simulated-killing is unhealthy.

Thats the main reason for me, and the fact that I simply lost a lot of sympathy to this portrayed game faction. I would not go the way and insult every american citizen I can get hold on. But in reverse I think nobody ever cared much about games where you had to kill the portrait of my grandfather in his Wehrmacht Uniform he is wearing on my grandmothers wedding fotography. He did not return from Russia.

So far about this! If we extend this thought we have to forbid every game portraying any real existing Army, nation, or police force from now on back to the roman empire. there is always someone who will be embarrased.

If I insulted anyones patriotic feelings I would like to beg for pardon, we germans are educated to not have such.

I think this is stupid, the Taliban have just as much right to live as US, they are simply fighting like the US did in the Revolutionary War (Where they were considered Terrorists at the time by the British). I like the way the hypocritic politicians don't care about the Taliban and their families, or Eastern countries in general it seems. Quite sad really.

And I see where Beagle is coming from, why is it ok to kill Germans in WWII games but killing Allied soldiers isn't?

We better stick to "doublethink" and "newspeak" in future discussions here, as the "thruth" may lead directly to "thoughtcrimes".

Will arma 2 be next?

No because nobody even knows about this franchise...

Well I guess a lot of people in the world do not even know where Czechia actually is!
