I never thought I'd see the day that a developer would use a production cycle akin to that of Call of Duty on OFP. Guess Hell just froze over...

For that alone I hope it fails.

In all fairness, mistaking an M-4 for an M-16 is not as dumb as arguing that guns can't overheat, or that .50 caliber single-shot rifles are "just as effective" as Stinger missiles against aircraft, or that a T-34 is a better tank than a Merkava MK4. Ah, the wonders of the internetz.

Btw., Codemasters announced that every few years a new Operation Flashpoint game is planned... :)

http://www.pcgames.de/Dirt-3-PC-234328/News/Codemasters-Dirt-3-und-Operation-Flashpoint-3-fuer-naechstes-Jahr-geplant-798389/

This makes me sad .... god I hope BIS never runs out of business and keeps making game like they do now , that way I can torture my kids with them . No "generic generally accepted console FPS game for you" son/daughter .

And yes , if I have a daughter, she will be playing PC games . BIS games

They are already thinking of another pile of crap? They didn't even release the new pile of Crap. What will their third attempt to make a good game be called? (Red River- menstrual cycle)?

One Xbox beside the other and all places are empty. :D What a symbolism!

Couldn't they make an even bigger crosshair ... That way you would be spared from seeing anything from the actual game :D

Ok, Lets take a step back and think properly over this game instead of just randomlly bashing it.

We know very little, But we've now got some bases to go on. It looks like a decent enough game, whilst its not ever going to be a competitor for ArmA, it may turn out to be a good game....

That said, Its not got off to best of starts. But, Lets think. They've *hopefully* learnt their lessons from DR, And have at least set a not so ambitious target.

I, For one, Am looking forward to seeing where RR goes. But, I do not have high hopes. I would be very happy if it turns out good though, But, After Dragon Rising. I'm not so sure ....

Anyway, lets stop covering our eyes (me included) and actually see where this game goes. If it then ends up failing. Go ahead, but, I think its good to have another game that tries to be differnet and doesn't just follow the whole COD/HALO franchise steps.

I, personally, have comfortably settled into the position of hating it permanently, Ben. Unless it either stops sucking as a sequel to a 2001 game that has more features, or removes the "tactical FPS" bullshit, I won't change my opinion. I think it's safe to say we all know that neither of those changes are going to happen. After the depressing release of Black Ops my enthusiasm level for another samey "tactical FPS" has hit rock bottom even if it does, unfortunately, bear the OFP name. It won't be "different". Not with the direction they've confirmed to be taking it.

Frankly speaking, there's no effort to make to bash this game, Codemasters does it alone each times it discloses something about its future game. Those wonderful pictures speak for themselves.

Well, i'm going to forget the fact its got OFP tagged on it. And just imagine it as an everyday company making a tactical shooter pulling out of the CoD market, called "Red River"

And perhaps I wont be so blind as to what RR is like compared to OFP.

I suggest you try it, and just give RR a chance. That doesn't mean you have to like the game or love it, it just means don't automaticlly hate it because of its name.

Though, My thoughts arn't all that good about it, I shall still try and think clearly.

Fair point there. But, We'll just see what happens.

I know, I've had this conversation before, and it did end up with me not being able to give any proper proof that they will do well, and lost it badly. And theres not much point... But, Oh well.

And that therein lies the problem. If they didn't want you to consider it an OFP game they wouldn't have the OFP title on it. They genuinely want you to believe this is a game which is a sequel to the original OFP. Simply forgetting that and accepting it's going to be "different" in the FPS genre the same way MOH was trying to be "different" is the reason they think they can get away with this.

But hey, if you end up getting your money's worth out of it, more power to you.

It still looks like an average game at best even then.

I know, But these days. If you have a big money title laying about they're going to use it on any game they can make money on. Its differnet with BIS because they're a company with their own titles, where losing credibility for say ArmA, would be a huge problem for BIS, but losing OFP for CM, not so much.

If you just look past the flashy title, Perhaps you see the actual game itself. Perhaps its just what the company wants. Either way, I'm just gonna watch how "Red River" turns out as a "Tactical Shooter"

If its any good, I may buy it, if its not, I wont.

Ben_S, you remind me of a guy I used to pal around with as a kid who's answer to everything was "Probaly, probaly not..." (mispell intentional).

But, Lets think. They've *hopefully* learnt their lessons from DR, And have at least set a not so ambitious target.

Why on God's Green Earth should anybody assume that they have "learnt their lesson". If anything, I have only seen them lower their standards for everything and are just "hoping" people such as yourself will blindly trust that "this time, things will probaly be better"

If you just look past the flashy title

When I look at the title of RR, I see a poorly executed OFP rip-off.

When I look at the actual game, I see a poorly executed CoD/BF rip-off.

Identical to what I saw with DR.

Your assumption/hope that this time it will be a proper game as opposed to the previous one (and again and again etc) is all that CM's sales strategy is based on. Selling the next rip-off to naive people.

/lynching mob mode engaged ???

Ben seems to be somewhere between cautious and neutral, not "assuming" and definitely not "blindly-trusting" or "naive". You are not being very good readers, and not very nice people either.

Should we react nicely to being mislead and ripped off after DR?

Well, I wasn't, luckily, but many others were.
