Viking_NFS 0 Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Norfor returns, just in time for Christmas! Over the last few months I have been working on a norwegian addon pack for ArmA2. It started off as purely special forces (similar to the one made by freddern, and using some of his textures), to regular infantry units. In the last two weeks I have also added a Bell 412 SP (based on the BIS UH-1Y for the time being) and have just yesterday imported the infamous Mercedes 290GD originally created for OFP. I don't know what more I can add with the models presently available from/for the community, since I can't model anything worth a rat's tail. Some screens and descriptions: (please excuse my crappy resolution and texture settings in ArmA2, I run on a laptop) These are the regular soldiers. For the time being they have been grouped as Telemark Batallion, Border Company and Coastal Ranger Command. All are based off ArmA2 standard US infantry, and all use the absolutely amazing RobertHammer's Pistol and HK416 packs. The jeep in the background is the "Wolf" in standard Norwegian vehicle camouflage. These are the Special Forces (NORSOF). The Royal Norwegian Air Force 720 Squadron Bell 412 SP with pilot/crew/door gunner. The helo is as stated based off the standard UH-1Y Venom, and hence still has rocket pods (not found on the real thing). Special Forces operators are from the Army Ranger Command (FSK/HJK) and/or Naval Ranger Command (MJK). Again, RobertHammer's weapon packs. They are grouped under the same category in the editor (Special Forces), as the difference between the two is minimal in terms of appearance. At this time, I have not planned winter or desert versions of the units. So unless you want to make them yourself, don't ask! ;) Next on the list of things that may or may not be done before I release these is a repaint of one of the Leopard 2's that are out there. I am also waiting for FFAA mod to finish their Iveco LMV light armoured vehicle. Variations of the "Wolf" (armed, ambulance, MP, etc.) are also planned. If anyone is interested in giving me a hand with modelling or texturing, drop me a PM! Merry Xmas, Edited December 24, 2009 by Viking_NFS

luckylewis 0 Posted December 24, 2009 Excellent! Big fan of the Norwegians here :). I've used Freddern's special forces units quite often in ARMA 2, I even made a with them. It will be great to see more standard units though, and I really appreciate what you're doing.I'd love to see a Norwegian Combat Vehicle 90 too, but you obviously have you hands full already. I'm looking forward to a release and any future content you add!

I'm looking forward to a release and any future content you add! Yeah I forgot to mention that. After the Leo 2 (because the model for it already exists), a CV90 is on the list about equal to the Iveco LMV. I might try and import the CV90 we used in OFP. They seem to turn out alright with the new texture maps and stuff found in ArmA/ArmA 2. Thanks for the support guys. Also, if anyone has any connection to Pedagne or FFAA mod, could you drop me a line about the borrowing of their Iveco LMV/Lince vehicles please. I will also try to get onto them myself about it. I can't seem to find any contact details to any of them. Edited December 24, 2009 by Viking_NFS

Oh btw are you thinking of modelling the new norgy helmet...i think it's called the m2000 or something? Man, any help is appreciated, feel free to join in! Drop me a PM with any thoughts or work you have already! As I said above, unless the M2000 has been modelled by someone else and I can just stick it into O2 and skin it, I probably wont be doing it. I have no modelling software, and I'm not very good at it tbh. Again, if you want to help out let me know!

Viking_NFS 0 Posted December 25, 2009 Another screenshot, this time of the M113 family. It was introduced to Norway in 1964 and is still in use. A number of them were modified into IFV's and AT versions. The IFV version (NM135) was replaced by the CV90N in the 1990's. The Army also operates command and control, ammo carrier, mortar and ambulance versions, all based on the M113 and with different designations (prefix NM for "Norwegian Model"). As of 2006, the norwegian military is upgrading certain versions of the M113 family under "Project 5026". Among the upgraded versions are: Anti-tank, anti-air, ambulance, command and control, transport, FAC, engineer transport and "regular APC". The upgraded M113's come in F1, F2 and F3 versions (level of protection and armour plating). They all get new belts, exterior fuel tanks (more room inside) and new comms. The screenshot depicts a "standard APC" version and ambulance, but as there are very little photos available of the upgrades, they are very plain for the time being. Viking_NFS 0 Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) Thanks! I'm considering converting the BIS OPFOR/Insurgent units to a sort of ragtag norwegian extremist paramilitary guerilla, using old norwegian uniform patterns to simulate old clothing they might have bought/have used for hunting. If I go ahead with this, I will probably make some "ole fashioned" guys for nostalgic purposes!;) We'll see. Might do them anyway! I have now obtained permission for use of the LMV from Pedagne MOD, so expect photos of them in January. Also started work on Desert uniforms last night. As soon as I get my hands on the LMV, expect a release of NORSOF and one or more army units with the LMV (and possibly the Wolf), along with the Bell 412 and crew. Maybe one day I'll make a Swedish soldier also, unless the Swedish Forces Project gets there before me (if they still exist). Happy New Year folks Edited December 28, 2009 by Viking_NFS
TACSIX83 10 Posted December 29, 2009 cool, cool! will you be able to remove the rocket-pods on the bell? ...And how many differetn types of soldier classes will there be from the norsof. i mean, team leader, marksman etc.? And how many form each branche (mjk / hjk)? Will there be any "DA" units? maby in black? im very exited about this addon! lookin forward too it! Rocket pods: Not at the moment. I can't seem to work the alpha channels in Photoshop/Texview to remove them by making them invisible, and as far as I know there is no way to edit ArmA2 p3d's (as of yet). So unless someone comes out with a new Huey/Bell 412 model, this is what we have. NORSOF: So far I have Team Leader, AT Gunner, Auto Rifleman, Marksman, Medic, Scout, Rifleman, Demo Specialist, Saboteur, Sniper, Spotter (all these in woodland+desert). Then there are three "DA" units based on the BIS "Assault" marines: Auto Rifleman, Rifleman and Rifleman w/shotgun. All are subject to change, so if anyone has any ideas let me know. Black units are in the pipeline, might be done before you know it;) My idea is not to flood the editor with meters of unit lists under each class, so i try and make it simple. I've followed the Army "guidelines" for ranger and regular squad setups when I made the groups. As far as MJK vs FSK/HJK goes, I've decided to group all the units under NORSOF in the editor. Simply because in real life there is little, if any, difference between these units on operation and flooding the editor with loads of classes (there are already going to be a few other classes just for the different Army units and for Desert/Woodland/Winter) is unnecessary IMHO. If you want to request permission for using FFAA mod models or units (mainly for the LMV) in your own mod go here and ask Peloton or Flaber for permission : http://www.ffaa.es/foro/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=613 Hope it helps!!! Cheers man, I've been in touch with Pedagne and they let me use their units when they're done (in January). Edited December 29, 2009 by Viking_NFS

TACSIX83 10 Posted December 30, 2009 Maby if you could get hold of some unit models wearing special forces helmets. I know there is an Australian Special Air Service Regiment mod ( http://www.armaholic.com/datas/users/3-sasr3-04.jpg) with a guy wearing this type of helmet. I saw Binkowski planned a mod with a us-SOF guy wearing it too ( http://www.armaholic.com/pfs.php?m=view&v=4-sf_wip_6_l.jpg ). You can find some pictures of what i mean here: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=123388&page=8 and in the middle of the page here: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=121069&page=7 and some black/navy blue ones here: http://www.mil.no/multimedia/archive/00123/fsk_123087a.JPG

I'm gonna work on finishing the regular army and NORSOF, both in des/wood camo, along with vehicles first. Expect release January/Febuary (depending on when I get the vehicles I am borrowing). Other things planned after that (black op/DA units, black jeeps, police units etc) are next on the list after these. Hopefully by then there are more models out there to "choose from". Also have now added in the following Army units with armpatches: - Full range of soldiers for Panserbataljonen, 2. Bataljon, Telemark Bataljon (Armoured, 2nd and Telemark Batallion) - Single soldier from each of the following: HM Kongens Garde, Grensekompaniet/GSV, Ingeniørbataljonen, Etterretningsbataljonen, Jegerkompaniet (HM King's Guard, Border Company, Engineering Batallion, Intelligence Batallion, Ranger Company) - A few recon soldiers for Kystjegerkommandoen (Coastal Ranger Command) I decided to do it this way to prevent clogging up the editor. Telemark, Armoured and 2nd Batallions are added in full due to them making up the bulk of the Army. They will "feature" on the vehicles and in the mechanized groups that will be added in later. If the player wants to use any other unit, he is free to do so by using the "generic" single unit from one of the other Army units available. The Coastal Ranger Command soldiers may or may not stay in the pack (they can easily be simulated using units from the NORSOF pack), depending on my general mood on the day of finalization ;) Once all the woodland soldiers are up and running (some of them crash at the moment), I'll continue with desert versions.
