Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

so whats the rough timeline on release of Tanoa?
  5. ok thanks mate - I posted it here because I didn't think these were bugs...more some sort of server side setting or something which I think it definitely is. The two servers weren't the official versions - both private (or public if its open to the public I guess) hence probably the ranking structure implemented. Shame about the M113 though. I thought I could get there via the patrol boat but no dice (needed to be a LT).
  6. after having played a few hours I've noticed a few things (maybe this is server dependent I'm not sure): 1. is there a way to disable that reaaaaally long intro (with the music)? Its nice but maybe a tad too long (this is on rung sat I think) 2. when I spawn into the island, there is music playing which is annoyingly loud - and I mean annoying. 3. On the two servers I played, all the helicopters were dependent on having a higher rank. There were 10 of us on the server...all privates and NONE of us could get to the AO unless you decided to walk/swim about 3 kms or so. We couldn't access the helis and/or the Medical M113 and HQ were both at base. Kinda defeats the purpose. 4. The medical M113 needs to be able to float. From memory, M3s are able to float or were amphibious. I tried driving it through the river (just covered the top hatch) and everything went to $hit. In the end everyone just ditched the server which is a shame because we were all really keen, and just jumped on the 7th Cav one. Just some minor feedback.

    [Official] Launcher Feedback

just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to the devs for finally releasing an official launcher which allows you to download mods!! this was one of my biggest bugbears.
  8. Excellent addon. My only hope is there are servers that actually host this mod and ping <400 for me (Aust). I've tried searching previously and could not find any Unsung servers :(

    A quantum leap - Arma 4

I'd love to see: 1. Nam - recreation of the vietnam war ie. large map of South Vietnam, Mekong Delta, highlands. Ability to conduct LRRP missions plus normal S&D as well. 2. Modern day but in the Middle East. Like it or not, I'm sure most players would prefer current day stuff ie. the M16 vs the AK47, not some futuristic sharks with friggin laser beams. Probably based in the middle east or Africa. 3. Africa! The wars in Africa (Anglola, Sth Africa, etc) would be another possibility. What I'd love to see is either modern day or something set in a specific war eg. vietnam, korea, WW2, etc OR current day (Syria, Iraq, etc). We humans love our wars...its 'good for business'.
  10. Couldn't find a server with this on :( I suppose its back to SP then

    A3 default launcher

I've recently started playing ARMA after a long time out (other games, life, yadda yadda). One thing I really liked seeing is the new ARMA launcher however are the BI devs able to include a server browser to go with it? The reason I'm asking is because you don't fully identify what mods are required for most MP servers until you're in the server browser. Once you've identified it, you then have to exit ARMA, load it up via parameters, etc then jump back in. If we had a browser that was part of the actual launcher (similar to a lot of other A3 launchers), we could identify the required mods then load up A3, find the server and join. Even better if you could jump straight into the server. Either way, we need a better system of managing mods or making it easier to join MP servers. Yes I know we have Six Player, but it doesn't always give you every mod required...and its quite slow.
  12. any chance of you guys collaborating with the Air Cav Vietnam mod guys? I've spent a few hours on their server and its a heck of a lot of fun.

    A3 default launcher

yeah I know - I'm a member of two online ARMA squads, however they only really play on weekends...during the week I like to join public servers, which is where the problem lies. I'm really hoping they improve the current A3 launcher as its quite good.
  14. Awesome map. Now all we need is to combine this with the Aussie ARMA addons, and for the Indons to attack from the north and we'll have a great idea for a campaign! (note: this is just for the game - Indonesia is the closest country to Aust with a large military force).

    New terrain reveal - Tanoa

am at work - popped in to watch the twitch feed (no sound) - all I can see is blah blah blah blah. I just want to know where its set. Please give me jungle....please give me jungle.
  16. that looks quite nice. I'm scared to ask for the price!
  17. I've raised threads on this before. ARMA is perfect for Vietnam. Assuming we somehow didn't kill our PCs with the impact of jungle, you could essentially replicate the types of missions they did back then ie. patrolling, search & destroy, etc (similar to domination/insurgency/etc that we currently place online), but also stuff like LRRP missions, helicopter insertions, use of patrol boats, etc.
  18. lol there's another thread on that exact topic called "Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow". I've said it before and will say it again. ARMA 3 is disappointing in its gameplay because its supposed to be set in 2035 (ie. approx 20 years from now) and yet almost everything replicated is modern technology. I would've been happier if they'd just modelled modern day tech, not reskin current technology (with its current limitations) and call it something new. I mean c'mon....the A-164 Wipeout (A10C anybody??? this is a 30 year old or so a/c that is in the process of being mothballed by the USAF) and the A-143 Buzzard (firstly why do a/c from opposing sides have the same classification? ie. do the russians name their migs F29s?; secondly this is a current gen light attack a/c). I could go on and on but you get the idea. I just think the BI devs started on a good idea (ie. 2035) but ran out of ideas (or were 'scared' to try something new) in the model creation phase. Obviously nobody knows what 2035 is going to be like, however just reskinning current get vehicles, etc and calling it future gen is just bad.

Let's talk about the artillery computer

yeah fair enough. I haven't used arty enough unfortunately (most servers don't have any arty ie. Dom/insurgency/etc which is where i spend most of my time).

Let's talk about the artillery computer

for something as potentially OP as artillery in ARMA3, I reckon it should be difficult to use (not overly) but not something that anyone can just jump in and rain death on anyone/anything. It should still be as we currently have it ie. the Artillery officer is provided with grid coordinates. They then compute the correct settings to put rounds on that target (starting with say a WP marker round, which is adjusted by the FAC). There should be an element of error in this process.

    Leights OPFOR Pack

Guys, whilst WE on here treat this as a game, we don't know for a fact that those fk heads who support ISIS don't actually USE this mod to recruit. The last thing we need is more ragheads wearing suicide vests in a public place yelling 'allah akhbar'. If you must remove the ISIS logos, etc, I commend you - this is a game for us....lets keep it that way.

Let's talk about the artillery computer

Whilst the artillery is a key component of 'real world' ops, unfortunately employing it on most Invade/Annex or Domination type maps doesn't work. Why? Artillery does all the work....the 30 or so human players then get airlifted to the new AO....and everyone there is dead. Rinse and repeat and it gets boring as hell. Thats probably why we don't see them often. However, mortars are better as the blast radius is smaller. I still would prefer we make it difficult. ie. we have to communicate coordinates and shift fire from there.

AI modders should combine to make 1 AI mod

well I'm very happy with BI finally focusing on this. As I've stated previously, IMHO ARMA 3 is primarily an infantry sim. A good example is say a domination/insurgency server...yes there are a handful of pilots (usually max 5-8 depending on server size) however the majority of players become infantrymen (and enjoy it). So from this perspective, I'm quite happy. Just can't come quick enough (cake and eat it too blah blah blah). :)
  24. Am looking forward to this. There's nothing quite like fighting in the jungle.

AI modders should combine to make 1 AI mod

Nope, I certainly have. My issue with this is, ARMA 3 was released in approx Sept 13. Its now Feb 15 and they've finally mentioned something about it....thats about 15 months for something essential to the standard infantryman (most dom/insurgency servers have you playing as an infantryman armed primarily with a rifle or LMG). I don't know if you've ever fired a modern auto rifle, however the recoil is quite manageable and, esp if you're in the proper position resting, you can be quite accurate up to your effective range of about 300m. In ARMA3, the induced sway is ridiculous. Maybe instead of making it harder to hit a target....focus on the target making it harder to see/hit them (which is the point of this thread).
