  1. Speaking of OA - does anyone have any links to OA missions that use CUP yet?
  2. Shushhhh! *Giddily runs 'outside' to play in Arma-snow*
  3. I wouldn't imagine much, it might just be lots of little changes to big files, but as they're encrypted they have to be completely downloaded again. :/

    Co-op Campaign: APEX PROTOCOL

I agree with a lot of the sentiments above. I think the thing that drew me to OFP in the first place all the way back in 2001 was the realism and the story - and those fitted together because the assets were built around the story - not just being added for balance or gameplay - look at how neatly the assets fitted the story in A3CO BAF DLC - we even had a female character! I think what we've seen is BIS switching from focussing on SP to MP because that's where the numbers of players apparently are. I just don't think that's really the case, or that that's what BIS should be focussing on. I think where BIS has fundamentally gone wrong recently with SP is in how they've presented the Armaverse and the increasingly equivocal nature of not just the character's motives, but with what you're actually playing (read fighting) for. Why are CSAT even bad guys - other than explained in the last APEX cutscene? There just seems to be no direction in the Armaverse or a big picture that's presented to the players, nevermind the fog of war that they're using to mask the gaps in things. Unfortunately I think this then feeds back into the mission level detail - I mean, who did we even play as in APEX??? Why did BIS create a whole load of tropical units and then only use the CTRG ones? You didn't even get to use the VTOL or ride in it in the campaign! The 'natural disaster' that is the whole reason for NATO being there only eventually gets called a tsunami mid to late way through the campaign in a cutscene - we weren't told that in all the press build up and trailers. It's the clarity that's missing from the story telling. Arma 2 (for example) did well in that BIS set the scene for why you were playing, you had a clear purpose in the story. It didn't matter that then changed as the Russians joined in. Now the Armaverse just seems like one big plot-twist without resolution. As a DLC campaign this is actually what I was hoping for in terms of what you (in CTRG) would be doing. I just wish that it wasn't framed in the MP style gameplay and I wasn't playing alone - that's not realistic and BIS know this. I kinda hope CTRG continue to track down the other devices and we discover a big picture to things. It just feels like they created a lot of content asset wise, but then haven't made the most of them. I mean, Tanoa is the most coastal/ maritime setting we've had and all we get is a new boat and a jetski. As for SP Showcases, I really wish they'd do more of them, they don't have to be quite as elaborate the the FFV one (though that was really good), but why have all these assets if you can't show 1) how to use them, and 2) set the scene for their use in the Armaverse. Rant/ rambling monologue out. :P
  5. An international peacekeeping coalition on Tanoa that includes AAF assets?

    Apex Gear Feedback

The CTRG units need some attention - they currently look like airsofters without any equipment. Please at least give them radio headsets and their old CTRG vests back (in tropic colours or green) - they shouldn't have the same vests as the Gendarmerie, they're supposed to be l33t ti3r 1 op3rat0rs! Also I think there should be Light or Heavy (Thermal) options for them (CTRG) - Light should be regular SF clothing for high mobility/ regular SF missions (think t-shirts and baseball/ jungle hats), Heavy - with thermal suits and more kit - for missions against CSAT/ lower mobility. But they should all have hydration packs or backpacks - it's hot work trekking in the jungle! It just looks wierd without them. Also, they don't all seem to have sights - surely in c.2035 SF units can afford proper sights? A medic diver would be great too.

    Development Blog & Reveals

I've no idea, but does the mechanics of being able to put vehicles-in-vehicles mean we might see walking in vehicles as well?

    Tanoa discussion (Dev-Branch)

Love the new map - I've only played for about an hour last night but it took me 30 seconds to realise I definitely need to get a new graphics card to appreciate it! You guys (edit - and girls!) at BIS have excelled yourselves - congrats! Just wish we could interact with the vegetation now - and have female characters to join us on expeds into the jungle! :P

Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

    1. Well this is the first time in a while where BIS hasn't given the community some form of treasure hunt of clues to entertain us while we wait. Or Will Porter's blog... but the less said about that the better... 2. Yes, but I'd like to see missions that are as slick to play as the FFV showcase. Most of the other missions in East Wind didn't really feel like they had pace, or any sense of urgency. Some form of SF missions to track down intel/ CSAT scientists would be much more interesting but I doubt we'll get that. I'm expecting the same old infantry/ resistance fighting with a big mission finale anti-climax where improbably your Private character somehow has been promoted to Major and takes charge of everything, but now in a jungle.. 3. Only vaguely. It would be good to get rid of some of the ambiguity in the Armaverse and actually fight them/ arrest them for being bad guys.

    CH-46 Knight

Stunning work flanders25, NightIntruder! I too was never that fussed about the CH-46, but you've done a great job bringing it to life! Is there any plans for a sample/ intro mission to go with the addon?

    Targeting improvements

Re: new aircraft targeting pod view - great start, but some improvements I think I'd suggest. Fairly happy otherwise :) Greater magnification - the magnification/ zoom in aircraft like the F35 is much greater than the 4.0x of the Wipeout/ Neophron/ Buzzard - I get that you have gameplay/ balancing in mind, but surely there should be a greater technological advantage to a jet over something like an Ifrit! Maybe something like 8x or 10x would be about the right ballpark, but even the Scorcher gunner has 32x magnification! When locked onto a target, the targeting view should centre on the target to simulate some form of targeting. ~360 degrees horizontal viewing - you should be able to look behind you so that you can see bomb impact/ continue targeting once past your target/ general observation. Bind movement/ orientation to numpad keys rather than mouse.

Arma 3 2DEditor and you! Please leave feedback!

To be honest, the time saved from being able to set the height of objects or place objects on tables in the editor (and placing objects more generally) rather than through trial and error scripting vastly outweighs any miniscule seconds difference in loading makes. If you're constantly having to check your work in game for problems it suggests you need to slow up and check you're getting it right the first time.
  18. Does anyone else wonder if 'logistics' is a hint leading up to this cool new feature mentioned in the Sitrep?

Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

Either way I hope we get some pictures or update soontm, this thread is starting to get duller than the decor in Guba's house on Kolgujev... Some scenic shots of Tanoa maybe BIS...?

Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

Seeing as BIS haven't provided any details as to the size of the Apex expansion, all we have to go on is those previously released. Since it doesn't look like you were around when they came out (no insult intended) I think you should go and have a look and see the asset and feature lists that OFP Red Hammer and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead provided. Any further speculation is just reified irrelevance until BIS provides some details.

Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

@graemeshute Using OFP Red Hammer and Arma 2: Op Arrowhead as the BIS models of expansions, there will be a fair amount of military content and civilian assets (not to mention new campaign, showcases and Tanoa itself!), not just "fluff" as you seem to think. With the DLCs for Arma 3, the game is vastly different. I can't remember the last time I was prone and didn't deploy or played with the normal flight model. I expect all of those things from an expansion. I would however like BIS to push their usual envelope though, so either better civilian presence/ interaction, a better storyline (like why CSAT are bad, basic background!), women, naval assets. Perhaps more interactive foliage if we're in the jungle?

    Mynock's Missions

Hi Mynock, just had a first run through of Gunrunner, really good atmospheric mission. Only feedback would be for some savegames before you get to each objective, otherwise you have to start right back at the beginning (since it's not clear there'll be one after to sort out loadout). Other than that - keep up the good work!

A3 Campaign - Continuation for Tanoa?

I suspect that there won't be too many links between the two campaigns, perhaps not even the same characters, I think the picture of Miller hidden in the bushes shown in the other thread is just to fuel speculation. I think they will just allude to East Wind and the events in the new campaign. Slightly offtopic here, my main wish for the campaign (apart from it being more engaging in terms of implications depending on your choices) is to have women finally in the game as playable and respected characters, rather than just as creepy and sexist props ala Arma 2.
