    US Naval Amphibious Assaults

    Hi Folks, I've only been using Arma for a month or so and I'm learning the ropes... I've spent a considerable amount of time learning how to use Alive (truly amazing mod) and I've been getting comfortable with the mission editor... I've seen the Naval Mod thread and I'm following along with great interest... From my very limited experience and coming from DCS - true jet aircraft operations seem a bit out of place in the snow globe like airspace of Arma (I could be doing something wrong) - although it seems to garner much attention... Has anyone created a decent U.S. amphibious landing mission already ??? This aspect of warfare has always interested me but it seems assets for this type of mission are still pretty limited... I'm starting to hobble together ideas for a pseudo Naval amphibious landing type mission with what's available today... Obviously - I'll probably have to make some substitutions like Chinooks for Sea Knights/Osprey - etc etc etc - until more appropriate content is released... I've seen the LHD and it's on my list to try (as the only appropriate naval asset I know of) and the Naval mods WIP's for the CH-53's and CH-46's... Are there any appropriate landing craft available ??? Boats in general seem to be in somewhat short supply... Any true amphibious craft ??? I could probably try airlifting some vehicles - not sure what the largest thing a Chinook can carry would be... Any thoughts or input on how to best accomplish this - most welcome... Thanks...     Hi Folks, Can someone else test this mod with the latest RHS packages - what I've found is when ASR is enabled - the US Army Grenadiers when placed down in a squad group run around weaponless - - - when I disable ASR the weapons return... I've tried this on two different machines with the same result... I have both the RHS and CAF addon config files for ASR loaded... Thanks... Regards, Scott

  7. Hi Folks, One more question on helicopters and covered hangars on Stratis... I now have all the hangars "Blacklisted" but the placement module won't populate ANY aircraft... I tried putting down helo pads but they never get populated so I'm guessing the placement module doesnt see them... Is there anyway out of this Catch 22 to get useable helicopters at the airport on Stratis when all I control is the airport ??? Thanks... Regards, Scott

Thanks Spyder...I just figured this out last night - the tooltip in the Placement Modules - shows multiple factions separated by commas - doesn't seem to work and I went the route listed above... I'm getting pretty familiar with Alive and can pretty quickly setup a major campaign on a new map - using most of the Alive modules... A couple more questions from my Alive experience so far - if you don't mind... Has anyone gotten the "Convoy" supply of the Player Combat Logistics to work ? I've gotten the para drop and helo methods to work - however - when attempting the road convoy - nothing ever shows up... Hah - the Military Logistic module dumped 3/4 of my reinforcements in the ocean via parachute... I only hold a small portion of the island - is there a better way to use this module to save the reinforcements ??? Is there a way to keep the helicopters from spawning in the covered hangars (Altis) - as the player can't get them out and I have yet to see an AI fly them out - also the Chinooks are too big and seem to explode on spawn... I tried using blacklists and placing helo pads on the ramp but it doesn't seem to work... Do the blacklists have to be truly square or do rectangles work ? I get a lot of explosions on spawn of vehicles - other than the Chinoooks in hangars - is there a way to prevent/minimize this effect ? If I use a placement module and don't link it to the AI Commander while setting a TAOR - will the troops just stay in the TAOR doing their job and not go out on assigned missions ( like guarding gates and high value targets ) ? Like setting a zone and using the "Fortify" option in MCC... Is there a way to setup a true amphibious landing with Alive ??? I was thinking I would have to to use alive for the OPFOR - then manually create the assaulting amphibious group using traditional methods - is there a better way ???     Hi Folks, I really think this is an issue - so I'll open a ticket.... If you place a U.S. Army group down - the grenadiers are running around weaponless - I have two machines and tried it out on both - same deal... I did put an individual grenadier down as the player and it seemed to work fine... Also - OBTW one of the U.S. SAW's has the bullets feeding the gun materializing out of thin air - missing magazine... I'll track down the actual model again and report that as well...   11. Hi D... Thanks so much for taking the time - I took a look at the thread you mentioned and it sounds promising... That said - how does ACE3 work today ? If I'm wounded - will a medic in my squad ever help me ? Do I have to request it someway ? I'd like to setup a mission where I can call in a "Dust Off" flight when my guys get wounded - with medics to treat them... I've been working with "Alive" for the past few weeks and I have most of the features figured out ( amazing mod )- I can call a med-evac flight on demand - just don't know how to get the medics to pick up the injured to remove them from the battle...   12. Hi Folks, Pretty new at this... Question: I'm using the BASIC medical system - how do I get my medic to treat squad members ? How do I bandage up a squad member ( I can get it to work on myself - however the ACE menu to interact with others doesn't seem to allow me to actually select my choices) ? Thanks, Scott
  13. Hi Folks, Question: Is there a way to specify a type of transport and location for the "Player Comat Logistics" - as we can with the "Transport" and "CAS" modules ??? Also - is there a way to get the helicopter to leave after it does a supply drop as they seem to just stay where ever they land... Question: When you do a helo insertion - how do you get at the supplies ? The "inventory" screen doesn't show my requested supplies on the helo... Question: Can the "Transport" module use ground vehicles ? Question: Can you group multiple aircraft in the "CAS" or "Transport" module ? Great MOD - thanks for all you guys do... Regards, Scott

    Hi... Are you trying to run the ".BAT" file or the ".EXE" in the updater ??? I had the same problem when I mistakenly ran the ".EXE" file... You need to run the ".BAT"... Also - if you can get it to work - I believe the "updater" would be best method as it seems to check all the files to see what you already have and only downloads new modified content on subsequent runs - so you don't have to download the entire package every time there in an update...   20. Hi Folks, While new - I'm starting to get the hang of editing missions... One issue I haven't been able to find a work around for is when my "transport" helicopters insert troops into a hot LZ - they refuse to depart the area and act as gun platforms for a considerable amount of time (many passes) after the drop... I don't want the Chinook pilots to act like Apache pilots even if they do have a mini gun on each side... The next waypoint has them ordered to cease firing - yet it seems once engaged - they stay engaged... I've tried using triggers to force them into a "Hold Fire" mode to go home but it doesn't seem to work... Is there any way I can override their unnatural desire to stay in the fight ? Thanks...   21. Hi Folks, Thanks for all the input - much appreciated... I looked at the link to "Capture Data" but I'm missing the big picture - what is capturing data on my chosen platform going to do for me ? What's the big picture action that is going tell my platform to egress the area of operation ? Also - if I could throw in one more related question - I have the helos doing a nice low approach to the LZ - all looks great until the very movement they choose to flare for landing - they pop up several hundred feet into the air - greatly slowing the landing sequence and making a perfect target for the enemy... I've tried setting altitudes on the waypoints but they seem to ignore this... Is there any way they can make a hotter approach into the LZ ? Reminds me - anyone read the account of the U.S. invasion of Granada ? I'm going from recollection - but - the pilots were so keyed up from being on a real combat mission 2 or 3 Blackhawks in a row crashed into their LZ from going way too fast on approach when they impacted the ground... The following ships thought the first one blew up due to enemy action adding even more pressure to go in fast... I'm sure there may have been some procedural changes after that due to the significant loss of life... Again - thanks - I'll work on this some more when I get some time... Regards, Scott

  23. Hi Folks, New to Arma and Alive and rapidly becoming a fan of both... Question - I setup a test insurgency on a small area of Takistan and was testing when much to my surprise the "Insurgesnts" started to airdrop reinforcements... The village the insurgents are attempting to control is back up a substantial mountain range... It would be much more realistic for reinforcements to work their way down from the mountains than to parachute in... Is there a way to have the reinforcements spawn in the mountain and walk in ? Question - it seems the Takistan map isn't setup of positioning troops inside the buildings - while the building are enterable - they don't show the various positions I've seen on the inside buildings on other maps when giving move waypoints... Which may be my issue with stationing CQB troops as I never seem to find any inside... Can someone confirm or deny whether CQB is working in the Takistan map ? Thanks ... Regards, Scott

    Hi Folks, Still learning the ropes here at Arma - actually setup my first fully Alive enabled mission the other night with your RHS mod and it's fantastic !!! Quick question - whenever I fire rockets from the RHS Helicopters - the sound repeats 4 times even though a single rocket is fired... Is this a known issue or a problem with then setup on my end ?
