Ever since BIS mentioned that only 3% of their market uses 64-bit OS, i was kind of wondering if it applies for the community here! Vote guys!

EDIT: Crap, I made a redundant poll choice :(

Used 64bit for some time myself, XP 64 for years (sadly let down by lack of driver support) and now Windows 7 64bit, much better for drivers but still have an old scanner I can't use (Cannon Cannoscan FB630ui A4 Flatbed USB Scanner) :(

The only compatibility problem I have with Win7 64-bit is with the Starforce DRM protection on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory :(

It isn't compatible with 64-bit and you can't play the game unless you go for some...let's say dishonourable methods.

EDIT: Placebo, could you please modify the poll and remove the 4th poll choice, as it is redundant?

I voted "I run 32-bit, but intend to upgrade to 64-bit in the future".

Sure i'm gonna upgrade eventually but i see little benefit in doing it now, also i'm running some programs that won't run on 64bit operation systems. Same goes for windows itself, i see no reason to move from XP to Win 7.

I'm running 32-bit, but would like to go 64-bit in the near future and see those memory hog games happy after they will be re-enginered for 64-bit.

A thing that blocks me is this PPJoy story about signed drivers at $500/year. I use it a lot to overcome joystick mapping issue in arma2.

With Win7 64-bit, you can disable driver signature enforcement on startup, but you have to do it everytime. :(

You just press F8 (advanced startup options), and choose "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement".

There is a script that does that for you. Unfortunately it's been ages since I last used it (I don't have an unsigned drivers issue anymore) and can't remember the name. It should come up if you do a Google search though.

Did you try installing XP mode? My uncle's old scanner works fine with it. You can even start the tool used for scanning the images directly from win7 so the tool appears as an XP window in windows 7. Of course the virtual xp will still be running but because XP mode is pretty much stripped of everything non-essential it runs smoothly on modern hardware.

3 and 4 are both redundant. Windows 7 is the last 32bit Microsoft OS. The next OS which hits in early 2012 is 64bit only. You have no choice.

Yeah, because everytime a new OS hits everyone abandons the last one. :j:

I am currently running a 32 bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate, but when I surpass the 4GB RAM region, I do intend to upgrade to 64 bit.

Im using 64 bit win7, since I upgraded form 2GB to 4Gb ram.

The results are quite the opposite of what BIS assumes, and it doesn't really surprise me, since the average ArmA gamer has quite a bit more knowledge about the technics behind computing compared to the average PC user. On top of that, they generally have more RAM and want to use all of it ;)

Used to have XP x64 (didn't have driver issues, but I never really had peripherals). Then I upgraded to Win 7 x64 Pro when it was released in september 09. I got it from my college for free so I figured why not.

Don't regret it, it's a really good OS.

I have been using 64 bit (XP, Vista, and now 7) ever since I started using more RAM. I have also encountered numerous driver issues because of it for the last several years but stuck with it anyways.

Once a significant number of users have 64 bit capable systems. Until recently, only about 3% had it, with the launch of Windows 7 it is changing very quickly (but unfortunately, only about half of Windows 7 systems are 64 bit).

Well, seeing the poll results I think it's time for BIS to introduce support for 64bit

My thoughts exactly. The next version of Windows is alleged to not even have a 32-bit version, so I think it's time. I think hardly any OEM PCs ship with 32-bit Windows anymore, either.

Hmm I don't think I did to be honest, I just kinda grumbled and stopped looking for drivers when the scanner first arrived (bought it off Ebay recently) will try now :)
