Things that would make this better... immersion

The thing that kills me with this game is that it constantly is taking me out of the immersion of the game play.

Example, I go to a ladder and a huge green arrow appears, then I have to click, then climb. If I am near the ladder and facing it, just make it start climbing.

Grass "popping" as you run down the street. Now, as you go down a street at a certain distance, the grass looks fine, but then you start walking it seems like in 10 meters or so more grass starts appearing, and even growing on the street. Frankly, the grass that spawned before was fine, I really don't need any more.

The huge green icons on everything, this is just annoying and again takes me out of the immersion of the game. If I need to reload, I know because the gun goes 'click, click'... I don't need a big picture of a clip with arrows around it. This also goes with units... I don't need green diamonds with the rank floating on each unit.

Gun fire discharge... there is only one animation and I think it may last too long. So, you shoot the gun and the "fire" shows up from the gun. The problem is it is the same animation, same color, and same size. With a rapid fire weapon, it really just looks like they draw the animation up there until you stop firing.

Buildings. You can't go in most of them... the AI can run right through them.

If it could be made properly i wouldnt mind it, but it really ain't high on my list of things i would like fixed/changed!

Not sure what you mean, but if the grass was rendered at further distances this forum would see tons of complains about performance(we already got enough). Grass growing on the street?

Use ACE and the problem goes away!

Search the forum and you'll notice other people mentioning this. The WarFX mod might have new gunflashes implentet eventually.

Thats not true, there's some buildings/walls(not most) that the AI can "wallhack" at places.

I think we should animations for opening and closing doors, also on vehicles (C-130 especially).

It really ruins my gameplay sometimes when things magically open or you get teleported into a vehicle.

dude the green diamond thing you can turn off in the A2 settings. its in the difficulty settings...you can turn off other things aswell..like the crosshairs.

Immersion for me is no HUD yet I find that the hud is essential to allow proper feel of enviroemnt.What truely sucks is that ARMA is getting to look too realistic and this fact makes you actually want to remove the green boxes/ladder and reload icons etc.Its like when I watch videos of OFP with all the hud working it makes you feel more in tune with whats happening in world.In ARMA2 though it sticks out like a sore thumb sadly.

Why not make the V key also work for ladders is a fix.We do not really need the reload icon.I love the way OFP gives you the big green box around team leader.There is a mod I seen that has a small circle in center screen showing where your team is in relation to you.Big improvemnt IMO.What about blurs on side of screen with no color to simulate peripheral vision while in realistic difficulty?

that and mind controlled weapons on vehicles and mind controlled reloads on static weapons.

BIS animation is the same from OFP only some minor enhancements

Muzzle flashes agreed aswell, firing a weapon at night like the AK74u combined with the horrible HDR makes it impossible to see anything, using night vision is a different story.

But OP alot of these interface assists can already be disabled under game options like crosshair, extended HUD, icons I think aswell.

Regarding the AI complaint, check how your frame rate is. With low frame rates, the AI suffers (or so I hear).

In regard to the muzzle flashes, I totally agree, and this is one thing that should be remedied. The fact that when you're shooting some weapons in automatic, the muzzle flashes turn on and stay on like a flashlight in your eyes is pretty bad. It messes with the HDR solution and also looks really bad. It's probably my least favourite part of the game.

I just got ACE and it is a great mod, and there are a lot of really great mods that really should just be implemented as part of the game. Which, I guess, is what I am suggesting.

But there are somethings that mods can't fix. The animations for example... they are never smooth. Most of this game feels, 'clunky' for lack of a better term.

I know there are a bunch of things that other people would like to have fixed about these things, but fixing the HUD and how the game feels to the user I think would greatly improve the game.

ACE is more less ArmA 2, most servers has it running anway!

But there are somethings that mods can't fix. The animations for example... they are never smooth. Most of this game feels, 'clunky' for lack of a better term.

Try the SLX mod, it have some animation improvements you might like.

They're just kinda sped up. Doesn't actually fix it, but takes a simple workaround.

I think it is a server difficulty setting, you can't change it yourself in multiplayer games. ACE doesn't touch them either. I don't want to loose them completely, as it makes the new shy guy on a server find his squad, and it improves your ability to stay close to your squad when communications is lacking. But sure, I'd definitely would want them more transparent. We don't run with them turned on, but we use fthud/sthud to compensate. Brilliant little addon when everything else is forced off.

I think the speed of iron sight and then zoom should be raised.Its so slow right now and in real life looking thru your sights only takes a max second and zooming your eyesight takes maybe the same time.Right now when in iron sight and I zoom in its so slow feels wrong.I think Arma had it pretty good speed wise.

And of course the kickback being visible adds alot to feel also.

Another area for more immersion would be a better lean implementation.I may be wrong since I have never fired a rifle while leaning but from my imagination the gun would not change its orientation to earth,instead you would just lean your head over.In Arma the weapon actually leans and then looks wrong as its now firing sideways....makes sense?

Heres a better explanation.First off you would have to have no aiming deadzone.Then when you press Q or E the whole weapon could move to left or right of screen slightly.Maybe with a very slight angle to make it look more natural?

@wolfstriked... good point about the leaning... in that case where is the bullet drop? Bullets are designed to go up when they come out of the barrel... so if I am sideways does it go ... more sideways?

But more often, I'd like them to take some of the beautiful mods created by the community and put them in the game. Isn't that the point of the mods? Users come up with missing things, company adds them to the game... better game for everyone!

I am now thinking that leaning around a left side corner looks spot on.You would actually lean your whole upper body left since weapon is on your right side of body.This means the gun actually would lean left.But for right side leans around a corner the animation is off.You would lean your upper body to the right but then straighten out gun as its more natural that way.

And about bullet drop.That has me baffled.LOL Is a change in orientation of the weapon gonna have the weapon recoiling sideways???:butbut: Any weapon experts here care to fill us in??
