Alan Wake - PC gamers get shafted - AGAIN :(

Recommended Posts

http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/6978/microsoft-alan-wake-will-no-longer-be-coming-to-the-pc

No surprise there. A game that was primarily conceived for the PC ends up being an Xcrock exclusive.

And some people on these forums wonder why we are so dead set against any incarnation of ArmA 2 on console.

I love their predictably pathetic (and completely false) justification as well. Something about Alan Wake would be better enjoyed on a big screen. So apparently, at least according to MS, you can't connect a large LCD to a PC

Strange really, as I have a 46" Samsung connected to mine

Alan Wake doesn't interest me as a game, but

Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience "Alan Wake" was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."

is about as much horseshit as I've ever read in justifying cutting options for people. Customers are NOT to be given options, we're here to be shoveled shit to.

Meh, the game never looked good to me anyways. Looked quite boring actually. The only gripe I have, like the rest of you, is with their idiotic explanation.

Is it just me, or are we experiencing the end of PC gaming? So many companies, including those who have always been PC orientated, are shafting us for consoles, as well as other developers. At least I still have BIS and Valve (well, I have Valve for now at least. Who knows where they will go).

Many people will always say PC gaming is dying. The matter of fact is, consoles are much more likely to fade away then PC gaming.

Think about it. First you have Microsoft, they make billions out of pc's, definitely a whole lot more than consoles. Although most of those units will be for offices, houses etc, what would multi billion dollar companies like Nvidia and ATI do with no PC gaming?

Then there is the whole fact many people, like myself, will find no good need for a PC anymore. So instantaneously, Microsoft, ATI, Nvidia, and many other companies have just lost a whole lot of money.

PC gaming has always been "dying", but think about it, its only been getting better. If you look at PC gaming sales, component sales, pc game devloper profits etc, you will see the number hugely increasing every year. Much more than nay console.

It's a retaliation to titles such as Hard Rain and Uncharted 2. The stream of PS3 only titles lately has lead Microsoft to become worried about losing sales so they're ready to "Xbox only" anything they can.

Personally I think I began to really hate development the day I heard 3 different companies say, "We decided to remove Co-op from Game X due to the fact that people just don't like Co-op and don't want it, especially PC gamers"

From then it's become a downward spiral including such great hits as, "dedicated servers are an archaic system that are no longer needed", and the latest but possibly greatest, "This game needs to be played on a large screen while sitting on a lounge, PC gamers are better off not playing it"

Oh yeah, and and and!!!

There will always be THOUSANDS of people like us, who will develop non mainstream games on PC. To be honest, any games made by a small developer for the PC only, are normally the best games in the world.

There will always be large pc communities with epic games. We don't need the likes of Ubisoft and EA to ruin everything for us, we just need a few good guys, like BIS, hopefully valve, and all the other awesome games I have played in the past for pc.

I don't know. At first I was quite excited about this game, since the story-line seems to be quite original and there's something positive about the developers. Max Payne was repetitive as all hell, but it captured a feeling of noir better than any game out there. With stuff like 'Lords and Ladies' and 'Noir York' it had a touch of the David Lynch about it.

I think they've had real problems getting Alan Wake to a point where they can give a release date - and I'm thinking there might be more before May. I suspect there must be something dubious about it for them to say there won't be any PC release. It would be easy enough for the publisher to pay another dev studio to port it across. It's not as if PC gamers are going to consider buying an XBox specifically to play one or two console exclusives (the PS3 is a bit of a different case).

It's an odd decision because I would have thought the story and atmosphere of Alan Wake would appeal to PC Gamers more than consolers. Perhaps it will turn out be much more 'on rails' and less open-world than it appeared in the first promotional videos.

The excuse is just lame, I mean really lame. Microsoft is kind of F**** themselves by bringing all the good games on the XBOX, The more games are comming out exclusively for consoles, the faster PC will die. What is the main Reason to buy a good PC and not an Apple or something? Good Games.....

Interesting they mention intimacy. Isn't a horror genre exactly the type of game you're supposed to play alone rather than have your whole family breathing down your neck in your living room?

That makes as much logic as building a skyscraper with no elevator because using the stairs is healthier. I know, it's just a lame excuse, but they'd come out looking less like assholes if they just came out with the truth ;)

Co-oP seems to be having a resurgence of sorts lately although your average console dullard is more concerned with "pwning" everything in a 500m radius than he is with actually banding together to complete an objective as a team.

Case in point, BFBC2 last night. Now, this game is quite obviously designed to be played using the squad system and when people do play as a team (about 0.0000000001% of the time), the game is very rewarding.

Last night I kept running down the hill to capture the first point and found myself repeatedly wondering where the rest of my team was. 14 (no I'm not joking) of them were happily plugging away atop "Sniper Hill" while one lone guy sat in the T-90 at the top of the hill firing blindly into the houses at the bottom.

As far as I am concerned, the concept of teamplay and cooperation is TOTALLY lost on these people. All they are interested in is THEIR body count/unlocks.

Wasn't this supposed to be Microsofts showcase for DX 10 to prove that the PC was not dead?

Guess I'm gonna have to get a 360 one day..

Watching all the vids to this game reminds me, I've already played the (Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark seiries)......So no loss here.

For every game like ARMA2 ,ARMA1 and OFP on my preferred gaming platform (PC) I'll happily let a thousand other games go to consoles.

Yep, I've got 7 games already on my wishlist for this year, all but 2 are PC only. If you love sims and rts, and if you love using mods for those games, it's PC all the way. :)

PC gaming won't die, only mainstream gaming on PC, and who is to say that is truly such a bad thing? All this is doing is separating the chaff from the wheat considering most PC games that get high publicity these days are mainstream and thus attract mainstream audience.

This game was looking interesting but with the lame excuse I think there was a bad turn somewhere, it is just about common knowledge that most modern televisions can also be used as monitors.

@ Soldier of Anarchy : Alone in the Dark..ah now there is a classic, how were the 4 and 5? I only played 1 and 2, couldn't go past and the most recent seemed so out of place.

1 and 2 rocked, 3 sucked, 4 was average, 5 got really bad ratings (talking 5/100 bad), but it was one of my favourite games. Played through it 3 times, love the gameplay, love the story, love everything about it. No idea why people keep complaining about it.

Story wise it also seems out of place with the rest of the series until you play it and learn what happened.... I haven't played it for a while, I'm gonna reinstall it now.

I don't think we're loosing much,at first it looked very interesting and the game was very open-ended you could explore the town, the mountains etc but some time ago I heard they've chopped that aswell.

Probabily they realize the game is already too dumbed down to make a fuss on pc anymore, basically a linear shooter.I'm more pissed off because I can't play Heavy Rain on pc than this Alan Wake.

Another stab in the back for the PC gamer. 5 years they've waited for this game and now, just a months prior to release, they get the news that this won't be on PC at all.

This sounds awfully familiar to Infinity Ward's 'dedicated server' stunt.

How is it that Microsoft Game Studios, the game division of the largest software company in the world, ignores large portion of players using their own products (Windows)?
