Has the 1.05 patch brought back some of the Magic

Years ago used to be a very avid OFP player MPCOOP and mission builder. When ARMA was anounced I was over joyed. Unfortunately my joy was short lived with so many things in ArmA that were broken which in OFP worked like a charm. One of the biggest thrills was the abilty to fly Helo's (Little Birds and UH60's as well as fast roping out of helos and being able to pick up units from roof tops and such in aground troop support role in MP) helo's also had a fairly good flight model that was controlable with a HOTAS, ARMA did not have this. Time went buy and I gave up playing and was just sick of the stupid AI. i got wind of ARMA2 and OFP and took some interest again, I played the ARMAII demo and once again I was deflated with the crap flight models and interactive ability of the Helo's as well as the piss poor AI and a mission builder that was porked to go with it because the AI just goofed off and did their own bloody thing. I went out and bought OFP2 DR and that was the biggest load of shite i have ever played, the mission builder is so complicated its rediculous and the support for the community SUCKS.

So people in a nut shell before I shell out for ARMAII have they re implimented again many of the things that made the original OFP the best game ever?

BTW - all that OFP stuff sounds like 3rd party addon enhancement to me.

Since 1.5 and with ACE and Zues AI ArmA II is now way better than OFP 1.96 was with WGL.

I think Arma2 is the best war simulator created so far! its the only game that i can play for a couple hours each day without getting bored or tired of it.

Yes it has some bugs and crap but when you realise the scale of arma2 compared to other games you soon forgive these bugs :) also with ace2 this game is simply fantastic in MY opinion :)

I'm not sure you were actually playing ArmA II there mate, the AI is way better than it was. The flight model has also improved, helicopters have a good feel to them, and I use a HOTAS system highly effectively. And the mission editor is the best I've seen in any game, don't quite know what you mean by 'porked' but the mission editor is superb.

ArmA2 is the only game in the world so far that made me put together a gaming rig just to play it to the max... er.... I am saying this as a positive, not a negative. It is the only game I play now.

Well to the first poster, if all you done is play a demo and not read any other modding sections or anything else then prepare for your own self made doom :)

People still complain that "you have to use mods to make it great" but, I would honestly say I dont care how many mods it takes to build on this foundation its still great. And rather than have multiple mods, you only realy need 3 and a the latest patch for this to rock, and they have been mentioned already.

I dont think I will go back to vanilla any time soon, is that good or bad? .. well BIS made the sandbox and modders are doing the additional magic. Its craps all over Arma1 for me now, so thats my view.

But in direct answer to 1.05 its brought alot of fixes and AI tweaks with grouping etc, but it will never beat a dedicated AI mod as modders have the luxury to dedicate themselves to one area only and test it to death.

For me is the same and, at the cost of being taken for fanatic, ArmA2 (and the predecessors ones in the past) is the only one war game that deserves to be played.
