Fn minimi (m249 saw) updated version!

Recommended Posts

The updated FN Minimi is now ready!

m-249-dvic536.jpg

Thanks to everyone who contributed with suggestions - I hope you'll like this new version.

CHANGES SINCE BETA1:

---------------------------------------

- Now also includes the Minimi Para, a shortened paratrooper version. It's lighter, but can be carried with a LAW.

- Completely new firing sound.

- New reload sounds for Minimi and Minimi Para.

- Gear pictures for both guns.

- A quick & dirty retexturing of the PK, so it looks less like a ... PK. (will still get a custom model, this is just temp.)

- New recoil. Less choppy, but you still have to lie down if you wanna hit stuff.

- Small increase in ROF.

- Custom ironsight (thanks to Assault for reference)

- Minor fine-tweaking of range and hit values.

- AI are more aggresive with the Minimi and more precise.

- Added two Black Op soldiers (day & night), equipped with Minimi Para and LAW.

- 3 quick test missions included.

---------------------------------------

If you downloaded the beta1 version, remember to manually delete it before installing this!

Since it's GeoShities, you must copy this URL into your browser:

I'd appreciate if somebody would be willing to mirror it  smile.gif

Cheers

Thanks for mirroring!

And apologies to those who drowns in the Minimi Para Test mission ... it was clumsy mission design sad.gif The wind was different during my tests of it. May take a couple of tries to land on ground.

hmm

i love your addon ......... the most realistic of the four version of the m249 i already have

i think that you should really try to modify a demo model to look like a real m249 , i'm really tired of the PK as generic model for all the modded machine guns

i can't help you on this , already tried with the help of some tutorials and it seems that i'm too stupid to make p3d mods tounge.gif

there are a few p3d modders out there who are searching a project .......

and i don't know if it's you who have said that the p3d addons were buggy , but that's wrong when they are correctly done

and ... the new sight rocks , the rate of fire is frightenning and so is the accuracy , this is a good addition to the ofp armoury , and when i fired this gun , i really felt like if i had a real minimi in my hands

If there's a way around the T&L flash bug, I'd consider adding a p3d hack model, as it seems like "alternatives" are far away.

thanks for feedback!

Great realism!

Now we can stop picking off people at long range with a MG. I hated getting picked off by machine gunners at long range. They're better for suppresive fire biggrin.gif

Gimbal, the sound is loud enough, but you don't hear it from far away. There must be a parameter for this. Compare it with the M60. But it's a great addon, really looking forward to a 3d-model! smile.gif

Good job Gimbal, all you need now is a good 3d model. I like the sight you made, however, aiming accurately took a bit longer to get used to for some reason this time.

How long do you think it will take you to make the model? What program do you use?

Hi, I made a test to see what you meant.

I added three squads of careless soldiers in the desert. Then I added a hostile M60 gunner and a Minimi gunner next to each other, so they would mow down the squads.

Then I put myself on the map, 1 KM away from the two gunners. The Minimi's sound completely drowned the M60 when it fired.

You're right, it was my mistake. I've made a mission and just took the other Saw-gunner (another Saw addon, can't remember from whom it is). That one is much quieter smile.gif

This is a really great addon.

Just one question, what name do I have to put in a units init field in order to assign the Minimi and magazines for it to him. eg:

this addweapon "WEAPONNAME"

this addmagazine "MAGAZINENAME"

Great stuff gimbal. Weapon sounds much more realistic. Now all you need is a good 3d .

Here goes..

Weapons: "Gim_Minimi", "Gim_MinimiPara"

Ammo: "Gim_MinimiMag", "Gim_MinimiMagPara"

Remember, mags takes up 2 slots, so a standard soldier can have 5.

Good work Gimbal !  What's the secret behind those custom ironsights? I'd love to know that for my own purposes biggrin.gif

Great work smile.gif

The Minimi has one of the best 'feels' of any weapon (original or addon) so far. Sound, rate of fire etc. are excellent...keep up the good work smile.gif

The ironsight is a model, like the weapon or any unit.

The black areas are simply the textures, as the model only consist of flat planes - the textures shapes the sight.

What you need to do, is copy this model and retexture it.

OFPEC has tutorials on retexturing models, as it's too much to explain in a post (and would be waste if you already know how) wink.gif

You need a software like PhotoShop, which can edit alpha channels, as that's where the whole thing is going on, regarding these sights.

When you open the file, it will just be black - in the alpha channel you can see the shape of the sight. This is what you edit.

I prefer making it in layers of a seperate texture (as the alpha channel doesn't support layers, etc) and then paste the finished sight into the alpha channel.

I hope that helps.

Cheers.

Ok, skinned it. Now all I have to do is import it into the game. Gimbal, if you want you can use it. Just e-mail me.

Wow! That looks absolutely stunning...but it looks as if it has been reversed. The chain feeds in on the left hand side of the gun as you are looking down the barrel, from the picture it looks as if it feeds in from the right...
