OH-58 Kiowa Warrior comes to Arma2

ADDON : Kiowa Warrior made BIS for OFP and converted by Southy

This is a beta release, you will find bugs the object of this release is to find as many as possible and get them fixed, I'll probably release one more beta before relasing a signed version.

DESCRIPTION :

Conversion the the standard BIS Kiowa Warrior from Flashpoint to Arma and now to Arma2

OH-58 Kiowa is a family of single-engine, single-rotor, military helicopters used for observation, utility,

and direct fire support. Bell Helicopter originally manufactured the OH-58 for the United States Army, based on the

206A JetRanger helicopter. The Kiowa has been in continuous use by the U.S. Army since 1969. The latest model,

the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, is primarily operated in an armed reconnaissance role in support of ground troops.

CONTENT/FEATURES/CHANGES/BUGS :

Fully functioning cockpit with dials etc.

All versions will have the Mast Mounted Sight, operated by the gunner, primary use is for laser designation/spotting.

Zoom is approx 1.5 longer than cobra.

Weapon loadouts:

2 x Hellfire, 1 x XM296 .50 Cal. (12.7-mm) machine gun

2 x hellfire, 7 rnds FFAR

7 rnds FFAR, 1 x XM296 .50 Cal. (12.7-mm) machine gun

7 rnds FFAr, 7 rnds FFAR

2 x Hellfire, 2 x Stinger

Bonus 2 x Aussie camo versions

2 x Hellfire, 1 x XM296 .50 Cal. (12.7-mm) machine gun

1 version unarmed

Special notes: hellfires can laser lock so two Kiowa's working in pink teams can fire Hellfires at fixed targets

like buidlings etc. The first version, 2 x hellfire, 1 x M296 can self lock laser hellfires, first select the laser

and ping the target, second use guns to lock target, second select hellfire and fire away,

this is the only version that can self lock the hellfires.

I'm looking to change the gunner optics view to something like the UAV's a much better FLIR than the Cobra's I'm using, thats for the next release.

Known issues:

The Eyball isn't the correct shape.

The Stinger version, fires the missiles from the hellfire side.

When in the turret view the gunner can use the cannon like the Cobra except it can fire in 360 degrees

(AI gunners will also use the 50.cal gun like a normal turret weapon)

Yes mate, anything that could help the performance of the addon is appreciated.

It would also open up the opportunity to use multiple textures on one model.

I get a "No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgModels/Default.sections" error when i try to use it in the editor and ingame it lacks exterior textures when piloting it in first person view. No other addons used and tested with the .50/Hellfire version.

Ok I'll check it out mate, can't say I've seen that issue, but I'll look into it.

Could you let me know what graphics card you are using.

I'm just a guy that has the most basic of knowledge when it comes to addons, I can for the most part get them in game without too much fuss, create arma1 rvmat/nohq/smdi files but thats the limit.

I spend the majority of my time in config files wondering wtf went wrong this time etc.

Textures is something I have no experience with other than above files, I was always very lucky someone else had textures to give/create for me.

You have some great reference material there and I will spend some time on it, but in all honesty I think texture merging is probably beyond me at the moment, I have my fingers in too many pies.

Instead of being really good in one area I'm just crap in a lot :)

Yeah I understand, same here.

Okay send me the Kiowa MLOD's and I'll see what I can do. But I cannot promise anything.

I've just come off from merging textures to 100+ models for CAT Afghanistan and hehe not sure how next merge project would take off ;)

I have improved the config. Will post tomorrow.

Southy are the models actually different in look?

If its only about different textures for the different types or about the weapon proxies,

that can all be done with one p3d and hiddenTextures.

PS: What about letting admins rename your forum acc to Southy.

Eble and Southy is a bit confusing. :P

really appreciate the help with the config, hopefully that will clear up the cfg models errors.

I actually got back my original account 'southy' as well, but I thought that might confuse people :)

the models are slightly different in each one, FFAR pods, MG mount, Hellfire launcher and Stinger pods.

I know about hidden textures and I'll include when I can, as I said I'm hoping just one more beta then, I'll got for the first release with server key etc.

I don't want to get stuck like in arma1 with lots of beta's and nothing really finished.

IAWS standard definition

I'll speak to Myke and see what he thinks.

I also have another question for you I've converted the Arma1 KA50 to arma2 the CFG has a copuple of issues that need fixing, then I just need to do the rvmats(easy) and it could be ready for a release.

I'm going to included the hidden textures so people can have whatever camo they like etc.

Just so that nobody does any overlapping work, I have the Kiowa MLOD package here now and I'm in process of merging textures for it (we'll see how it goes).

I'll send the packet back to Eble as soo as I'm ready.

This will most definitely include model.cfg creation so there fore config.cpp will be edited.
