    Dragon Rising has been released

I have the PC version of OFP: Dragon Rising and all I can say is, this isn't a competitor for Arma 2. Yes it will sell more then Arma 2 will, but the games themselves are two totally different categories. Arma 2 is much more of a simulator approach where Dragon Rising is simply taking CoD 4 and slowing the gameplay down, and having a much more "ported" feel to it then Call of Duty. Which is a big disappointment, I expected some of that but they really took away from the PC title (no joystick support for helo). So don't even compare it, if you want it as another shooter go for it but OFP is no Sim like Arma 2. Can't wait to see more patches come out for Arma 2, playing OFP made me look forward to Arma 2's future even more. Last point, I honestly feel they never should have put Operation Flashpoint on the title box, and left it in the vault for another time when they could have done it true justice to it's previous installment. They could have called this game something else and it would have made sales, but to slap a title like that in the face with this is just sad.

    Island Panthera for ArmA 2

When will we likely see the release of 2.3 ? and will there be a separate update file for it instead of the whole new install? Thanks for hard work, downloading now.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

well you have about two days until you find out, The mission editor won't even be included for console users. So I'm sure Codemasters will take recommendations from the community if there is a real problem with mission building. It's not like the game doesn't come with any MP missions already or SP so they managed to do it, I'm sure you can to.

    Patch 1.05 suggestions

How about the bullets still getting stopped by those big bad leaves on the trees? It's getting annoying trying to play as a sniper and using bush as concealment only to have your bullet stopped by a leaf or two on the way to it's target... Fix Bullet penetration please!
  6. So where do your numbers come from? 5% just feel like the best thing to type in? Anyways moving right along, A patch will make things more consistent which is something most people want. I think that players are aware and don't want a patch that takes them from 40fps to 50fps with the spikes. The patching process is to keep a steady 40fps throughout. The i7's do have a issue with this game and Win7. Frankly I think it's more the Intel side and all the enthusiasts that couldn't wait a few months for the i7's to be tested. They always find flaws and bugs that they have to iron out at the fab factory. Anyways hopefully the upcoming patch will solve SOME of the engines issues and smooth-en game play up a bit. But like it was mentioned above, it took some time before a patch came out to really make Arma 1 work properly, that and I'm sure a hardware upgrade along the way... On a side note, if you want to see what a Developer can do with a similar engine to Arma 2 but actually optimized, check out DCS Black Shark. A Ka-50 Attack helicopter simulator... Those guys got it right, and they are a very small company compared to the big boys. It's a shame BIS cut so many corners and pushes for release when there not even close to ready to a polished smooth gaming experince (not just performance, bugs, multiplayer, file system structure, mod support integration or lack there of.)

    Shadows related fps drop...

This has been a issue before with the relation of shadows and AA settings in game. I don't know what the technical reason is for the drop in performance at such a high rate but it is what it is. Shadows do cause a good amount of work on the system when you start cranking up the quality of them, we already know. But the reason why AA could be optimization issues with the engines. Again have seen this before and would relate it more to drivers from the graphic manufactures. Usually the first thing you read on a driver update is optimizations in games when enabling _x AA and the performance gain you should notice.

    Ranking system, why not?

I don't think the rank system is not meant to be looked at as "points." Especially in relation to a game like Arma 2. "Points" or numbers are just the means of keeping track and ranking. Think about that job promotion, it was based off good work, commitment, overtime where the guy against you only offered two of those traits. 3 against 2 you win, you get a office and a better looking number on your paycheck. You see my point, there is really no other way to keep track and we use it in the real world to, it's just covered up with a explanation (something games would have a bit more trouble articulating.) So yes a rank system would be great because in the end it is all about getting the mission accomplished but that's not to say you want to be the one to earn the luxury to do it in the A-10 and the other guy want's to be the one to blast through on a M1A1, and the other guy wants to be in charge of the crew and command them what to do and where do to it. Don't relate a ranking system so much to a number itself, you don't walk around your office carrying a name tag with a number on it that ranks you against other employees. You would have a title much like the titles in Arma 2 (ie. pilot, Alpha leader, AT soldier etc.)

    Realistic Stars

I think that accurate stars would be sweet, and some color but honestly, planets, solar activity, etc.. is a little excessive maybe you need to go find some space astronomy game. I much rather see patches come out or community mods that add campaigns before silly stars and the way your explaining your wants, it looks like performance would take a hit on this as well. Something that probably wouldn't go well with a lot of current Arma 2 players.
  10. That just isn't true. DX10 is a whole new program from the ground up. Which means it's not back words compatible. You can run DX10 hardware on DX9 games so in that case yes it's back words compatible but not on a software level. I don't know the break down and I'm not some programming expert on Direct X, but I have Windows 7 64bit and I could not run the game until I downloaded and installed DX9c from Microsoft. Just FYI
  11. Check your graphics drivers are the latest supporting Win 7, at least for nvidia they have had some updated drivers since the release of the Win7 Evaluation Copies. That may fix the miss carrier. I agree though, been running Win7 64bit and haven't looked back since!
  12. Can you please explain to me the difference between your A10 file and the VOP A10 file? is one higher quality? I get the difference in the burst and automatic file. Thanks
  13. There are a lot of servers out there that haven't updated there servers to work with some great sound mods in the community. I tried joining and only 1/6 attempts to different accepted my sound mod. Please Server Admin, and Hosts can you please take the steps necessary to support these great sound mods out there. The games default are so bland and unrealistic. You can add keys to your server that verify the files were signed and safe (no cheating). I'm disappointed at BI once again. Everyone says this game is ALL about the community and I see that, but not even BI is being very mod friendly. There file layout is non sense. To add a mod you have to do so much extra than what should be required. As well certain mods (like sound mods) that don't offer any chance of cheat enabling files still have to be signed and keyed in by the server to accept. That's B.S. unless it's a gameplay changing feature it should not have to go through so much work.... Once again please community/servers take control and do the work, add the signed keys, don't leave it to BI... This is once again why BIS should have a server we have to sing into first that already has a set of mods that are deemed safe to use regardless of the server. PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

I priced out a AMD vs. Intel the other night. All parts identical where they could be (ie. amount of ram, speed, processor quad core, and motherboard features) I saved $200 Canadian with the AMD setup. They included the Processor, Ram, Motherboard. Everything else comes down to user wants and not relying on motherboard or chipset unless your thinking SLI and Crossfire. So don't be scared of AMD, there processors are not far behind intel at all in benchmarks and the graphics cards (ATI/AMD) actually win more benchmarks then Nvidia. I know we all like to stay true to our companies we like so much (amd vs intel, ati vs nvidia) but you said your thinking about budget. By saving $200 you could get a much beefier graphics card or pocket the money for something else you may want or need.
  15. Go into your BIOS and disable the C1 State for the CPU. There should be an option under the CPU section to allow it or not allow it to enter C1 state and other various power saving modes. I'm not saying this is a perm. fix but for the mean time if it helps, then let the Devs know what you found so they can look into it further.
